@beepwrld You didn't miss anything there! I had a poncho, skirt, and purse from target that all had big floppy roses on them. I thought it was peak fashion at 15. They were on a lot of dresses, too. it may have been more for prom/school dance wear.

I love how respectful you are of people who love trends you don’t and even include photos of people who are owning the look! It is refreshing to hear someone so in tune with their own style and what works for them and their lifestyle without knocking anyone else’s.
Also, I totally agree about the feeling naked thing! Even when I’m taking awesome care of myself and feeling super body confident, I don’t like being overly exposed and the vulnerability that comes with it.

The neck rosettes are a favourite of mine alongside every other playful neck jewellery that doesn’t stick to the common formula of necklaces . I think they’re playful and flirty and add a romantic goth element to outfits precisely because they’re fabric flowers that reference the ruching and skirt decorations found in that style + other Lolita Styles. It also reminds me of 1990s Bluemarine campaigns which featured the neck rosettes for that very sultry, flirty element and seemed to reference lingerie and the bedroom a lot, seeing as Nicola Brogano is trying to revive that type of girly aesthetic and due to that, bluemarines popularity has risen dramatically + the recent “dark feminine” trend, I’m not surprised there’s a huge love for the neck rosettes and every other frilled/laced element that goes hand in hand with them
I think also there’s a need for an elegance that isn’t so minimalistic and refined but more dramatic and sexy referencing the more sensual examples of that found in the 20s and again brought a back in the 90s, which is where the large pendants and string are coming from and I believe they’re actually usually made of glass but I can see why someone would confuse them for plastic

They're tacky and if you want to look bad no one is stopping you of course

    • @kellyannefitzgerald
      @kellyannefitzgerald ปีที่แล้ว +16

@@nadias6435 what an uncalled for thing for you to say
I think things like the rosettes are something that if it matches your style (not trends- your style, its different) it can look so cool and so specific and personal. That's the kind of thing that people look at you and go wow- she is so stylish and at home in her own skin. If it's not you, it looks uncomfortable and itchy and trendy and you feel silly and not quite right. It takes time and knowing yourself to look at the trends and figure out what is for you, and what isn't. I think very few things are universally "tacky" and tacky also I find is not that useful of a word. Usually its code for cheap, which is something that can be done to any kind of trend, or its classist/racist, but trying to disguise itself. Or its code for maximalist, which is of course not a style that is for everyone. But it's not inherently lesser just because there's more elements.

I think pendant necklaces can be so cool and show so much personality - they can be easy to make or thrift (think entry-level ceramics, finding cool stones or beads or small antiques and putting them on whatever chain or cord you have laying around).
the plastic disposable ones unfortunately miss on the personality/uniqueness front and just put more plastic into the world, though. hope we see some more flexibility with how these are coming back and more people engage with this trend in a thoughtful way

I would never want to accuse anyone who dresses minimally of trying to look like a colonialist a-hole, but the ethos of going whole-hog "I paid $10,000 for each and every one of my plain white shirts" is based on the kind of snobbery we should be discouraging in this day and age. But dude, as an aside... Lego flowers fill a hole for those of us who can't keep plants alive or have cats who crave the toxic deliciousness of actual flowers 😂😅

As someone allergic to metal I think the string and plastic necklaces were something I tended to wear when I was younger because of that allergy.
Now I’ve found jewelry in different materials that isn’t metal or will wear bandannas or bolo necklaces but I can get why that is something that is trending. The options for non-metal jewelry can feel fairly limited when you’re first searching.

I think it's cute in like a cartoon character design type way, but seems super impractical. And I also will never stop wearing high-rise pants! I'm so short and need all the help I can get. I think it's also important to mention that some of these trends have a much higher consumer base in certain countries over others! Cowboy boots never really became a trend where I'm from, (you see a person wear them here and there, but certainly not enough to classify them as trendy), I associate them with the US much more.
Low-rise jeans, on the other hand, are all I see younger people wear nowadays. It's interesting to see what comes to other countries and what doesn't (and this is often filtered through what fast fashion brands makes easily available, too).

While I agree that the rosette necklace looks very weird and silly, I fully disagree about the legos. They're very cute and a lot more budget friendly than buying flowers every week. The issue with flowers too is that they exploit labour (often times the labour of minorities and immigrants) and they're absolutely awful for the environment! I like that you mentioned fabric flowers that look more like the real deal, dried or preserved flowers are also a great alternative if you don't like the look of the lego ones but I'd definitely not go for real ones if sustainability is important to you as you say.

I really wish the 'barbiecore' trend wasn't just 'wear lots of bright pink head to toe', it somehow makes it all kind of boring. I love pink! But I love pairing it with complimentary/contrasting or adjascent colors and not just in hyper trendy silhouettes/styles like the ones in the video. But more importantly Barbie has so many more points of references from her illustrative history that people could look to for inspiration, and a lot of it isn't even pink. I love casual fun and funky y2k barbies and mod era to Malibu Barbie vintage barbies - I haven't seen a single Malibu Barbie reference and its disappointing (but I love dolls, so I just have a deeper knowledge of Barbie, and most people do just know 'pink'.)
Also I think the rosette choker was all over Carrie Bradshaw in the later season of sex and the city and I feel like its subconsciously coming from there (I think she had more fun outfits with it than the examples you showed tho). I've always loved chokers (does anyone remember that period of time where it felt like they fall off the face of the earth and then sometime around 2014 they all mysteriously reappeared?) and I like some of these ribbony floral ones, but I want to make them myself so it looks exactly how I want. Someone else somewhere in these comments pointed out they can look very romantic goth, and that's the angle I'd go for.
To me cowboy boots are evergreen, but I live in the northern central valley California, so seeing it pop up as a 'trend' is weird to me. Even if I have a 'fashion' (non durable, cheap) pair I got at American Eagle a decade ago and have only ridden a horse once

in retrospect (since the season is over and my eyes are clearer now)
as a preface, I'm someone who values quality and fit over quantity, i think almost anything can look good as long as it fits you (in terms of size and style), whereas bad quality materials will always cheapen an outfit and make it look bad. i only look for clothes two or three times a year and pick clothes that are well made and fit my style and body. I dont need many statement pieces but in terms of patterns i love lace, I'm a proud outfit repeater hahaha i just want to evoke the look of thrown-together simplicity and comfort
    1. never liked them - to me jorts always look photoshopped on for some reason xD zero movement and that's not rly my thing
    2. never liked them - no comment on quiet luxury, I agree with what you said, and it clashes with what i like
    3. never liked them - do we ever consider the fact that barbie was just one long ad
    4. never liked them - if I cover/crop out the rosette choker in every single outfit, the outfit still looks good lol if anything it just cheapens the look of the outfit. on myself, i think it would just look ugly xD i completely hear you about the fake flower thing too
    5. considered it for a brief moment - but then it reminded me of the stuff i would see in kids stores when i was 6 or 7 and beg my mom to buy, just looks too fake and 7:17 this is ENTIRELY too big
    6. never - the bloomers are just too coquette adjacent
    7. thought about it tbh - it just doesn't look good, also pulling up my pants every single time issa nooooo
    8. not really - dont like how impersonal they look, i dont want to cosplay as paris hilton, i like the sincerity of the 2000s, not the glitz and glam and uhhh opulence
    9. never - i would get regular boots
    10. never - i CANNOT

So glad you brought up your discomfort around the aspirations for the old money aesthetic - I feel like I've seen no critique of it at all. The super rich have never and will never gain their wealth ethically, even the new money of today gain their billions through exploiting factory workers, destroying the environment etc. Why are we aspiring and celebrating this?

Something that has been bothering me about the Barbie trend is that she doesn’t just wear pink, she is also the queen of blues and purples! Adding those colors to the trend would really make it more accessible and switch up the look as well as invoke the early 2000 fantasy Barbie movies🪸❄️🦄💫

High rise pants don’t work on me because I barely have a bum and high rise emphasises that fact (I look like I’ve got a whole lot more back than butt). And so, low rise/mid rise fits my bum best. Plus I have a short torso and long legs so I like making my waist look a little lower. I think pants’ rise shouldn’t really be a trend but rather just a style that you choose based on what makes you feel comfortable. Like all rises should always be options

i love that hot pink in the barbie trend but all those outfits remained me of how companies were releasing all these barbie related products..... it made that trend feel like more marketing. anytime i saw someone dressing inspired by it i just felt like companies were getting what they wanted from us consumers, to keep the barbie fever alive....idk it all just felt too plastic and overdone

i am also a rural-ish wisconsinite & definitely can relate to associating western/cowboy boot style with some of the yee yee principles that my hometown community generally holds. it feels kinda strange to see urbanite influencers wear them instead of the misogynistic, tobacco chewing guys i went to high school with...lmao.

about the stealth wealth thing, you said it’s not dressing like an actual rich person but dressing in a way to try to convey status and wealth etc and you try not to do it but that’s okay for white people to do but the thing is for everybody else, keeping yourself looking classy and conveying that energy does get you respect sometimes that you wouldn’t get in a different outfit. sometimes you just need to look really put together

I'm a little confused about the old money trend, because here I'm seeing trendier silhouettes in beige, and that doesn't match my perception of how the wealthy dress. But having an "elegant" appearance absolutley improves the way you are treated, that's for sure.

I will keep wearing it after the trend is over because it has sentimental value and it’s a plain circle so I think it’s a bit more timeless.

the chunky pendants for me are like nostalgia from 2000s jewellery, like things my mother wore on holiday... or just for a nice meal out. for me it's like playing with the idea of becoming a young adult while the fashion is what adults wore in my childhood. if that makes sense?

I wear vintage Barbie….the cropped jeans, striped tee, red sailor jacket, cork slides, white cat eye sunglasses and straw bag and hat. Only us original girlies know the Barbie whose house was made of cardboard. Wouldn’t that house and furniture make a fabulous SheShed? Hey Bezos get on it while the iron is HOT.
