    Usually creators use words like 'hideous' etc to describe trends they don't like. You've steered clear of that and also made it funny. Your tiers actually comment more on the designers, companies or capitalism that created the trend, not the everyday people who wear them.
    If I wore anything you personally didn't like, I could giggle at being a 'glitch in the simulation' or 'psyoped', rather than hearing that what I wear is ugly or trash. Respect. 💛

      As a fellow oily girlie- these 'trends' can be such double edged swords.
      Love the oily face representation, but most folks who have to do it intentionally, obviously will end up looking super nice bc they put time & effort into it.
      Same with curly hair, oversized clothing, extremely light/bleached brows, freckles, glasses... Many of these 'trends' are beautiful people intentionally taking the cutest aspects of things a lot of us were made fun of growing up 😅

    This one was so fun! Underwear as pants is definitely a psyop- I don't think they made it anywhere mainstream outside of some articles and if I saw this irl, I wouldn't register it as fashion, I'd feel kind of embarrassed that someone forgot their pants. Same situation with corpcore- it's definitely aimed to making people who are entering the workforce over-consume when they buy their basics because they're 'cool' by glamorizing it; every generation gets some version of this, be it the lbd, or business casual at the club, or just a blazer over everything.

    I probably mentioned this when I answered your Instagram question, but the reason why I don't like the football/soccer jersey is because I am from a country where people are crazy for soccer, so I associate these jerseys to hooligans and guys at the pub. So not the pinnacle of fashion or people I really want to associate with. On the other hand, I don't have any bad association with long denim skirts, so I think they're cute.

      hopefully female soccer fans can help turn this tide around (though I know that's unlikely and the hooligans are ENTRENCHED). I’m from up North in the U.S. and have similar associations of jerseys being worn on sore loser sports fan and long jean skirts being cute without the religious baggage! If I’m not careful my denim skirt can look frumpy but it’s such a life saver in the cooler months when I don’t want to wear pants but don’t want to freeze in my only mini skirt. I feel very true 2000s-when I was little my aunt would wear long denim skirts with boots and lipstick a lot so it’s also a little nostalgic.

      @juliafrare5967 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I'm from Brazil and although people are crazy about soccer here too, I don't really have bad associations with them because soccer jerseys are thoroughly normalized here and hooligans usually wear their ultra group shirts instead of their actual team shirts. the only ones that actually have bad associations, weirdly enough, are the yellow national team jerseys, because of bolsonaro supporters ruining them. I'm also a soccer fan myself though so I'm biased lol
      on the other hand, I definitely associate long denim skirts with fundie evangelical types, because they're pretty much the only people that wear them here :p

    With the sequins and metallics trend, I have to say I really hate it, and not because I think it’s ugly but because the materials used for those products are literally plastic and fabrics that don’t hold up well. The large majority of people are going to wear those items one time and then donate them or trash them and it’s just gonna fill the landfills with clothes that are made of plastic and garbage. Such a waste.

    • @Rhaifha
      @Rhaifha 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I disagree a bit with that. First of all, you can thrift those items and second of all, many of them are not more fragile than any of those lace or see through items that are also trendy.

    • @aleatoirefrancais
      @aleatoirefrancais 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@Rhaifha I agree! Lace is going to get messed up much faster than a lot of metallic items (though I get that sequins/embellishments are fragile and the metallic pleather items aren't going to hold up well). Thrifting sequins is the way to go- there's some incredible stuff out there!

    • @MadiHearts
      @MadiHearts 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      @@Rhaifha my point is talking about how the majority of people are going to buy those items new and then they’re going to wear them once and then they’re going to end up in a thrift store and likely end up in a landfill. It’s just some of the worst fast fashion clothing that’s going around because it’s literally made of some of the worst materials that are bad for the environment when made, and when being thrown away, but also are bad quality and fall apart faster.

    I have loved the resurgence of bows as a trend. In the late 2000s I wore all the big bows, so I love that bows are back but daintier and with the long ribbons, it feels fresher to me.
    I really appreciate how inclusive your reference photos are and I wondering if you’d consider maybe making a video about how you find them because as a plus sized individual, I have a hard time finding actual fashion on Pinterest that isn’t a Shein ad. (Maybe as a short if you don’t think it would take long?) Really appreciate your videos and how you and Kathleen have reinvigorated my love for self expression

    Amazing Liz!!! I picked up an asymmetrical top and also an asymmetrical skirt after being influenced by you. And you were not wrong. They are two of my fave items of the season. Also, strongly agree the skirt is easier to wear than the shirt. Today I wore the shirt and asked my partner if it made me look like a crazy art teacher. And they said YES. So… I still love it! Thank you for all the inspiration all year long!!! And thank you for this amazing video! 🖤🖤🖤

    It's so interesting in your video and in the comments to hear the reasons why people like and don't like certain "trends", and is helping me understand why I react so strongly (in a bad way) to certain trends that others appear to like.
    In Manhattan this fall, leggings as pants (often in a faded burgundy that looks like raw liver to me) with a cropped jacket or sweatshirt + big white sneakers was 75% of the women I saw in the street and I felt like I was on another planet. "Glitch in the simulation" is a perfect way to describe that feeling.
    Meanwhile I was feeling like a tool wearing Corp Core because I had to go back to the office 2 days a week, and "Go Girl Give Us Nothing" sums that up perfectly too.

    Those glass pendants were in every gift shop when we were younger, usually very beach-core or whatever. They're pretty... but they remind me of the general chunky necklace trend from the mid 2010s. The necklace strap also makes me think of macrame necklaces and surfer-core as a whole in the early 2000s, which was especially silly to wear growing up in the Milwaukee area

    I study medicine and guess they can be a bit of a fashion statement in medical workwear, like certain styles or colors get popular, and people attach different "badges" to the holes just for fun. That's a specific environment though.

    This was so fun! Even though our styles are pretty different (95% of my wardrobe is black lol) we had almost identical tier lists. I think i ranked some of them low (chunky/rose chokers, mschf boots, etc) bc they don't incorporate well into one's personal style. Like the boots for example, every time I've seen them it's just outfit + MSCHF Red Oversized boots 2023. Whereas asymmetrical clothing, ribbons, specific colors can be tailored to fit your own unique style (plus r way more diy-able!) Idk i find that I'm much less interested in trends when they are just based on a brand/specific item

    I am old enough to have seen a number of these trends that have come back around fall into the dreaded dated category of fashion. I am happy that younger people seem to be breaking away from that judgmental capitalism based approach to style, but there is still enough of that feeling for me to cringe at wearing things like a jean maxi skirt. The other thing I hate in fashion trends are what I call dysfunctional clothing. It includes anything that falls off, rides up, flaps around or twists repeatedly when I wear it. This has to do with my body not a feeling about what other people wearing. I have a wide foot with a narrow heal, even ballet flats that are 2 sizes smaller than I normally wear, I cannot keep my heal from popping out.

    I remember the exposed bra trend from the early 2010s, when me and my classmates were still too young to wear bras but every older girl were wearing black ones under white shirts to make them noticable (and then we proceeded to do that too when we got old enough even though it wasn't a trend anymore)

    Seeing the different cultural meanings we associate to clothes is very interesting! I'm from the south of Spain and I went to a catholic school and I never saw any conservative woman wear a denim maxi skirt like that, I think that would have been considered very weird even for them. The truth is I never saw skirts like those in person till recently, when they became fashionable among women in their 20s-30s, so for me they looked cool and refreshing 😂 (although I only like the ones with a parting/opening in the front, not a fan of the just plain long skirt)

    Millenial here! I cant remember last time I enjoyed a year fashion wise that much like 2023. I think it is mainly because I am a girly girl and the 2010s were more on the unisex side, while this year finally feminine looks like bows and barbiecore were in. I also LOVE sequins, they are so extra! 😍 But I don't like the sheer fashion, though. I like to layer sheer items over opaque clothes, but sheer clothing over underwear? That gives the wrong vibes to me.
