      Cinder killed kvothe's troop because his father used True Deep names of the seven. You can speak those names and still get away with it if you do not speak them again in 1000 days and 1000 miles. So denna used only their common names, and her life wasn't at any risk. What _really_ makes it hit hard is the context, though. The book's "Four Doors of the Mind" -- the ways we cope with pain -- are Sleeping, Forgetting, Madness, and Death.
      From the earlier line in this song,
      "Unable to Die, to Forget, or to Sleep..."
      Denied the 4th, 2nd, and 1st doors, can we blame him for falling through the only one left open to him?
      "...Lanre was driven to Madness and grief."
      When Haliax stops Cinder from tormenting little Kvothe, _"'Send him to the soft and painless blanket of his sleep.'_ The cool voice caught slightly on the last word, as if it were difficult to say."
      Damn right it were! I personally know what it's like to suffer through a bout of insomnia for six *hours.* Dude has been in that state, unable to catch a single "Z", for *Six. Thousand. Years.*

    • @voidstarq
      @voidstarq 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think a good headcanon would be that Denna's song was *exactly* like this. It makes Kvothe's reaction (even more) immature and unreasonable: what she says is actually perfectly accurate to Scarpi's version of the story; he just doesn't like the angle from which she romanticizes it.
      "But she calls Lanre a hero!"? He *was* a hero, except at the end. "She's too sympathetic to him"? The essence of tragedy is that the tragic figure is a sympathetic character; otherwise you might as well just be reading the news.
      (Also: if he thinks the song is about Lanre, that just shows how little he knows about women.)

    • @sitrinist2842
      @sitrinist2842 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@voidstarq its not a good head cannon because denna called it mirinitel, not myr tyriniel
      and denna does make lanre out to be a hero. "he burned that wretched land" so yes, she does make him out as a hero, she even makes the act of burning an entire city seem heroic. so she makes out lanre to be a hero, which he is not. and Kvothes reaction is absolutely not "immature and unreasonable" the girl made his parents murderers sound like tragic heroes, he had every right to be mad

    Ésta sería una traducción aproximada al español:
    Nuestro héroe de canciones e historias sin contar
    Él no peleó por gloria, por plata o por oro,
    Él mató por las manos que sostuvieron su corazón;
    Por Lyra, quién lo amó hasta que la muerte los separó.
    Las lágrimas de Lyra limpiaron la sangre de su espada,
    Ella llamó el nombre del único que adoró;
    Las cadenas de la muerte que lo sujetaban entonces se rompieron,
    Una vez más con su amor, Lanre despertó.
    Pero la Muerte es un tirano que no puede ser negado.
    Lyra calló, palideció y murió.
    Su destino es incierto para los que quedamos.
    Es la consecuencia grabada en miseria y dolor.
    Incapaz de morir, de olvidar o dormir,
    Lanre fue llevado a la locura y a la aflicción.
    Myr Tariniel ardió por sus manos,
    Misericordia por las personas de esa desgraciada ciudad.
    Selitos gritó y rasgó sus ojos
    Enloquecido por la soberbia, maldijo por los cielos:
    “Lanre traidor, maldigo tu nombre,
    ¡Ojalá vivas siempre en sombra y vergüenza!”
    Nuestro héroe de canciones e historias sin contar
    Ahora deambula los caminos solo en el frío.
    Él sueña con las manos que sostuvieron su corazón,
    Por Lyra, quién lo amó hasta que la muerte los separó.

    At first I felt you were singing from your throat, but then my thoughts faded to a simple awe that only grew as the song went on. It felt like the hairs on my arm prickled as the eerie feel of the music washed over me, and then sadness.
    I love it. It's beautiful.

    I just had a super crazy idea. "Her fate left unknown to we who remain. It's consequence etched in missery and pain." What if Lyra is Auri. Living in missery and pain, broken, always regretting she broke the law of balance. Witch would explain why Auri is so obsessed with treating things their proper way and not letting her wantings change the world...again.

      lyra never regretted anything, she jus died, simple as that, the story is literally about lyras lover going crazy with power but still not able to bring her back. auri and lyra have nothing in common but mayb a few subleties

    I was remembering that I found and listened to it when I was 13 - the first time I read The Name of The Wind. It was brilliant and I was surprised for the quality - I didn't expect such a great performance and a great music by fanmade. Now I'm almost 19 and I'm reading The Name of The Wind for the 5th time. The books never gets boring (since my 1st read it was my favourite).
    I'm really grateful for you to have done this. I always come back here like 2 times a year and I can say it's nostalgic for me lol
