I was going through chemo 20 years ago when a friend sent me V. This was the first Spock's Beard tune I had ever heard. It changed my life for the better in so many ways. I wrote Nick an email right after that and he responded, which totally blew me away. 20 years later, I remain cancer free and still love this song and CD. Thank you so much for this, Nick.
AWESOME! Congrats on getting your health back. Music is a powerful thing. I am happy the band brought you some good vibes and enjoyment. Cheers to you!
@9:25 God bless Dave Meros. Underrated monster bass player. Likely one of the best 70s prog channelers out there. I'm so glad I found Spock's Beard over 20 years ago. Think of all the music we got to hear from them AND the satellite bands. Wonderful.
Awesome. I always listen to this song. I love it. Now my newborn baby is listening with me too. Cheers from Brazil !! Ahn ... thanks for this masterpiece.
I never have gotten to see SB, and watching Nick would be one of the main attractions, but now this video shows me closer than I'd ever get at a concert.
Absolutely LOOOOVE this. Dude I remember picking up V from Spock's at a local shop in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil that sold imported CDs. I remember also seeing "The Light" there for sale but I had to pick my battles. Bought this copy of V when I was 16 or so... love this album to this day.
"Perfection" in so many ways...Song writing, musicality, overall vibe and of course some killer drum parts...drum sound is outstanding too!!! Top-notch stuff 101% 🥇🥇🥇
Oh Man Oh man Nick!!! This is the song that completely made myn CRAZY about Spocks Beard. The energy level of the drum track is off the charts and everything about the song is fantastic! Thank you so much for featuring this on you groovy thursday Nick, be well!
Lately I listen a lot to the album V! What an amazing album! The drumming is TOP! It is great to see you play one of my favourite songs from that album, Nick!
Saw this tour early and late show at the Bottom line in NYC they had so much joy and fun on stage it was electrifying ! To this day was in my top 2 concerts of all time.
This song and album were my introduction to Nick and Spock's Beard. I became an instant fan at that point. That opening fill from the floor tom up to rack toms sounded so incredible in my mind as listened through the headphones at the time. Thanks for posting Nick
Having only seen Nick from the Sweetwater infomercials, it is cool seeing him in his natural habitat. He is a different person (this one plays even better than the other one) The music is great and he obviously having a ball! Good on Ya Mate!
Yahhhhh Nick! What an epic! Great to see this full play-through. 🤙🤙🤙 We need a tutorial from Dave for that funky section near the end where he lets loose, too!
Min 8:05 the climax of the song! awesome! V is a hell of an album! really in the best prog rock ever! Almost saw in my mind that the hi-hat fall apart hahahah....greetings, long live NDV and Spock's beard! 🤘🤘🤘
You're an amazing drummer, Nick! A few days ago I was telling my wife how much I was blown away by your performance when you played with Karmakanic in Boston maybe around 2009(?)
Amazing Nick! Always loved your drumming on this, especially live. I also really like the live recording that is on Here & There (at the Troubadour). Here you play a different groove for the latin section, which is just so cool... perhaps you can break that down in the future?
Fantastic! One of my favorite SB songs. I wish I had seen you guys back in these days. I started listening when Day for Night came out. Then V arrived. I was as excited with both these albums as I was when Marillion`s Fugazi came out then Misplaced Childhood. I can`t wait to go back and watch the prior 61 episodes of Groovy Thursdays.
This is Awesome. It's the first SB song I heard, and a foundational one for my drumming. I was fortunate enough to meet you once at a small SB get together at Alan's when I was a very young and new drummer (probably around the Snow era). You were nice enough to ask me about my drumming and that short chat (I preferred to play on the pinball machines at that age) still left a very lasting impression on me. To this day you are one of my drumming idols.
*looks around furiously* "Where's my "V"?!" Time for a relisten, methinks. Ah, there it is. And "Beware of Darkness"... I think this will be a sonic weekend!
What a great song. Looks like you got lost in the song and slowly floated away there for a while. Your drum kit sounds amazing! Great video, the new format.
You continue to brighten up every Thursday with D'Virgillio coolness! Keeping it real, No need to cover the grey roof with new shingles my friend, Everything is better with salt & pepper...au- natural suits you.
Incredible stuff, Nick, Looking forward to seeing you on the road with Mr. Big! Any chance you'd ever post the video you did as your audition (Lucky This Time)? Eric Martin has said publicly that it was awesome. Cheers!
French fan ! Remember show in Paris with Mike Portnoy guest on « The Light ». Your memory is intact on this track ! You’re a fantastique Drummer : Mister Nick ❤ Thank you for the share :)
Kick ass album this. I have always wondered if there is any connection between Spock's Breads "V" and Symphony X's "V" as both have V in the title and the artwork is quite similar.
Thanks, Nick! V is on of my favorite albums, and it was great to see you play this song up close. Some of the kick drum patterns just blow my mind. How does your brain keep track of it all?
Lovely song, specially the horns part. Why not uploading your drumming on Harm's Way? Specially from 6:48, a passage that reminds me Genesis (the organ sound, the 7/4 signature). Your drumming there is fantastic too.
One of my all-time faves. I'm curious, was this edited version an instrumental that you played along to? As someone who has only dabbled in audio track layering, I imagine it might sound quite weird to hear both the original track (drums included) and your drum playthrough on top (almost like hearing a drum echo at times).
I use an app called MOISES which can separate the audio in a number of different ways. It is incredible actually. The more you ask it to separate the more phasey the sound gets but overall it is amazing what it does. I definitely recommend it. Cheers!

AWESOME! Congrats on getting your health back. Music is a powerful thing. I am happy the band brought you some good vibes and enjoyment. Cheers to you!
I think I've watched the making of "V" like a hundred times when I was a teenager... Big big influence on me :) What an album!
Cheers!
My first introduction to the magic of Spocks! Still my fav Spocks album 🤘🏻 excellent thanks Nick
That bass line starting at 9:28 is one of the coolest parts ever put to tape.
Definitely. It never fails to amaze me.
YES!
I was just going to comment on Dave's sick bass line!
Dave Meros is one awesome player. I absolutely loved playing with that guy. Pocket, sound, vibe, groove, and balls - all in one package. Love it!
@9:25
God bless Dave Meros. Underrated monster bass player. Likely one of the best 70s prog channelers out there. I'm so glad I found Spock's Beard over 20 years ago. Think of all the music we got to hear from them AND the satellite bands. Wonderful.
Dave is a fantastic musician and I thankfully got to make a lot of music with that man. Great feel, sounds, and pocket.

I always listen to this song. I love it. Now my newborn baby is listening with me too.

Never ceases to amaze!!!

NDV is the great Master of drums! Amazing. Hug from Brasil 🤘

Thank you Nikos!
This song gives me hope that I will someday find the love of my life and even if I don't, it doesn't really matter anyways.
What an awesome performance and song.
Oh Man Oh man Nick!!! This is the song that completely made myn CRAZY about Spocks Beard. The energy level of the drum track is off the charts and everything about the song is fantastic! Thank you so much for featuring this on you groovy thursday Nick, be well!

Having only seen Nick from the Sweetwater infomercials, it is cool seeing him in his natural habitat. He is a different person (this one plays even better than the other one) The music is great and he obviously having a ball! Good on Ya Mate!

From Japan. I've been a fan of Spock'sBeard since the first album, and I'm glad I found your band. Nick's drums are so comfortable and I love them!

Amazing Nick! Always loved your drumming on this, especially live. I also really like the live recording that is on Here & There (at the Troubadour). Here you play a different groove for the latin section, which is just so cool... perhaps you can break that down in the future?
I will do that Rob. Cheers!
I miss the original Spock's Beard "team", I hope someday they'll reunite for a European tour!
And an American tour!
Now that Morsefest is going into repeats, I wish they'd get the entire "Snow Live" band together to do some full-length Spock's albums going forward.
It was a good crew. Cheers!
Nick that was awesome you are a good drummer
My favorite Spock's Beard song!
Thank you!
Go Nick! Great tune by a great band!
Thank you!
Those are probably the best set of Sabian hats I’ve ever heard. Overall the set is sounding great.
SUPERB
Thank you! Cheers!
Fantastic! One of my favorite SB songs. I wish I had seen you guys back in these days. I started listening when Day for Night came out. Then V arrived. Thank you Michael. Much appreciated!
Wow! One of my favorites from V! Thank you!
Thank you!
Awesome!
Thanks!
Thanks!
My favorite SB song and I got to see it with NDV playing at MorseFest :-)
Thank you Guy!

Oh wow! Thank you for those kind words! Cheers
most impressive! SO many cool sections in this song. Spocks should be playing stadiums!
Thank you Eirik!
*looks around furiously* "Where's my "V"?!" Time for a relisten, methinks. Ah, there it is. And "Beware of Darkness"... I think this will be a sonic weekend!
Nice! Thank you!
Groovy!
Thank you Barry!
One of the greatest of many great Spock's Beard songs! It's so unfair that SB aren't as huge as DT and Haken, for example.
Thank you for watching the video Mikael!
woooooooooooooooooooooooooow, thank you
Thank you Eduardo!
What a great song. Looks like you got lost in the song and slowly floated away there for a while. Your drum kit sounds amazing! Great video, the new format.
Thank you Chris!
You continue to brighten up every Thursday with D'Virgillio coolness!
Keeping it real, No need to cover the grey roof with new shingles my friend, Everything is better with salt & pepper...au- natural suits you.
Right on!
Welcome to MR.BIG ❤
Wow, just wow. Thanks for the vid. Awesome song. Awesome drumming. And does this mean that it excists a drumless version of this epic?!
No. That would be a little easier. I use an app called MOISES to separate the audio. It is amazing how it works. Check it out. Take care!
Incredible stuff, Nick, Looking forward to seeing you on the road with Mr. Big! Any chance you'd ever post the video you did as your audition (Lucky This Time)? Eric Martin has said publicly that it was awesome. Cheers!
That is a good idea. I may have to do that. Thanks Mike!
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you!
French fan ! Remember show in Paris with Mike Portnoy guest on « The Light ». Your memory is intact on this track ! You’re a fantastique Drummer : Mister Nick ❤ Thank you for the share :)
Thank you for watching and your support!
The original is 5 minutes longer but here you have the best parts altogether.
I just took out the mellow parts. They are cool to but I wanted to try and keep the energy up. Cheers!
Kick ass album this. I have always wondered if there is any connection between Spock's Breads "V" and Symphony X's "V" as both have V in the title and the artwork is quite similar.
There is no connection but I do like me some Symphony X! Cheers!
5 star music
Thank you!
I want to hear you on a set of HH Vanguards!!
OOOH! OK! I like those cymbals quite a lot. Cheers!
Thanks, Nick! V is on of my favorite albums, and it was great to see you play this song up close. Some of the kick drum patterns just blow my mind. How does your brain keep track of it all?
I have no idea. I have a tough time remembering people's names but somehow I can remember a song like that. Cheers Mitch!
Lovely song, specially the horns part. Why not uploading your drumming on Harm's Way? Specially from 6:48, a passage that reminds me Genesis (the organ sound, the 7/4 signature). Your drumming there is fantastic too.
It is on the list. Cheers!
@@NDVirgilio Hahaha, thanks!!!
One of my all-time faves. I'm curious, was this edited version an instrumental that you played along to? As someone who has only dabbled in audio track layering, I imagine it might sound quite weird to hear both the original track (drums included) and your drum playthrough on top (almost like hearing a drum echo at times).

Nice work on the edits to shorten it for the video. Calling this an oldie but a goodie makes me feel old. Please don't do that again. 😄
Ha! You feel old?!?! Cheers to you Mike!
