There's certainly better fish along there. There seems to be loads of small chub on the Stour this summer, and when this has happened in the past eventually there are lots of big ones.
There seem to be a few around Sturminster Newton on the upper Stour - I show the remains of one in 'A Pinch of Flake' that had been eaten by an otter, but nothing like the numbers found in the Thames, Kennet and Great Ouse.
I haven't used a keepnet for 11 years now and even before that I'd virtually stopped using one, and don't worry about spooking the fish, plus the fish go back without frayed fins.
Yes, it's the Extima 15ft. Too early to be suire but so far I'm impressed, light and comfortable to use (I have modified the reel fitting!) with a good action.
Looks like the sort of swim Mr Crabtree would have fished thanks for upload regards
Can’t grumble about that session it looks like a bite a chuck plenty of silver fish in your swim thanks for sharing mark 🐟🎣👍
Nice little session to start the season Mark. Let's hope some of those fish get to grow to decent size

Mark, i closed my eyes every time you lunged forward to net thise fish! Not a bad session.
There was a narrow step about a foot down but, yes, it's quite an awkward swim.
Nice session there mark. 👌
Thanks 👍
lovely again that
just out of interest does the Stour have signal crayfish? We have a major problem with them on the kennet and the fishing is dire. Cheers

Nice spot of summer fishing
Is that a Mitchell reel?
Thank you; yes, it's a Mitchell Match 440A.
is that Sturminster beat
Hi Mark Just wondering putting the fish back do you think it can spook the fish in your swim ?

Mark are you using a 15 foot Colmic Extema ? How do you rate this rod.
