In 1969 all my friends wanted to listen to Hendrix, Led Zep, Neil Young. But there was a Beach Boys album, I said, "I like this!" In November '74 I saw them in Mad Sq Garden (thinking they were over). Their second song was "Catch A Wave" - the whole Garden stood up and sang along the whole song. To a Beach Boys song I thought was 2nd level. Boy, did it feel good being right.
Don't they sound just great after all these years? I had the privilege of watching them live in Sacramento in 1964. They performed twice. I'm not sure if the one I attended was the one they recorded for The Beach Boys Live album, but even if I wasn't, it might as well have been because I'm sure they sounded the same both times. Oddly, however, the thing that remained with me the most from that performance was seeing Mike Love bathed in green light while he sang, "I was working in the lab late one night when I eyes beheld an eerie sight, for my monster from his slab began to rise, and suddenly to my surprise . . . he did the mash, he did the Monster Mash. . . ."

Al Jardine looks like he's enjoying himself. Al was the most underrated member of the Beach Boys, in my opinion. Besides his talent, he kept the group together when the shit hit the fan. He put up with a lot but I think he stayed because he truly loved the music!
I wasn't around in 1964 nor would I be for another 25 years but from what I've seen, Beach Boys have only lost small slivers of their voices. They truly are an amazing band and it's a great feeling to be living in the same time period as them.

Al should have his guitar, you can see he's playing anyway from pure muscle memory, every chord must be etched in his brain from playing it so many times. Chills. Grew up listening to this with my grandad and I remeber just loving this song. I can say in my 22 years pf life this song had been played more times to me. Than any other song.
My favorite band! I was born Jan., 1954 and remember all their songs. I saw them in person in the summer of 1974 down at the Cape Cod, Mass. and their winter concert Jan., 1975 at the Boston Garden. All the band members were there (Carl & Dennis) and they had a wonderful brass section of trumpet, sax and trombone. Well balanced show including lots of flowers at the front top of the stage thate were thrown out to the audience. Lots of fun and everyone had fun. Everyone there was American and there was no hate.
I wish my grandmother was here to show her this. My love for these guys was birthed with her and has never died. I miss her terribly, but thanks to these wonderful men I have a huge selection of music to always take me back to jiving with her in her kitchen 💕

When I was first introduced to the Beach Boy's (after listening to EVERY country song ever written!) I was HOOKED! I have sang these wonderful songs ever since with as much backup as I could muster. Facts! All you have to do is look listen, to know they copied Chuck Berry. All the way to singing about the different cities. Plus, it's well known that white groups often ripped off black groups, with the exception of Buddy Holly. That man was amazing...
But the best part of the song is when Brian changed the melody by bringing it up during "Everybody's going surfing, Surfing USA." Much better than what Chuck wrote because Chuck couldn't go in that upward direction.

My question is: How the hell did Brian Wilson come u with so many great songs that had just awesome harmonizing. Astounding!!! One of America's Rock and Rolls greatest song writers. Maybe even the best.
Brian studies popular quartet groups from the 50s and taught the band how to harmonize. They worked really hard at it.
