L.A. scene...Rainbow, Toubadour, Gazzarri's, Cathay De Grande, Raji's, Coconut Teazer, Cathouse, etc... venues/clubs with great bands performing on stage... nothing can replace Live shows..the Sound, Sweat, Emotion and Social interaction...And that goes for any club or venue in any city that has live music...some of those clubs are gone..but those performances are never forgotten. SAVE LIVE MUSIC!
Dallas Texas is the roughest! I watched a local band that I remember was playing Rush Limelight that opened for Robin Trower get spit on over and over. It was really gross. That was one show I was glad I was away from the crowd and not real close to the stage.
I was the head sound engineer for 10 years at the Troub. Many, many amazing shows too numerous to mention. My heart goes out to the family Karayan for keeping it real. Sure hope they can get back to it soon.
Yeah, I guess. But it's only to generate revenue, so much revenue. At least they have a better business idea than the govt which has a business plan, the plan to destroy the middle class and make us dependent on the universal basic income due to the economy being destroyed.
@@AuntAlnico4 stop whining. Save up some money. And for the love of yourself or music.. or both> go to a music store pick up one their instruments and play some tunes. Amazing guitars. Damn, hitting it out of the park with this sort of content! Seing historical places like The Troubadour that were so important musically, and culturally in general, is absolutely great. And what a scope of performers, from Elton John to Metallica, Lenny Bruce played here, as did Tom Waits and many many more who went on to create timeless works of art. Can't wait for more 'o these!
The upper bar was where Doug Weston Lived when he was alive... It was his Apartment overlooking Santa Monica Boulevard before they converted it....If you were a good band.. He would open his door and check you out...If your band was shit the door would stay closed.. I Once got to step in the Door and talk to him...He had wild antique furniture like you would see in a medieval castle..A suit of armor ...all stuffed in a tiny spot....Doug Weston did a great Service having such a great place to play music for everyone...with a vibe like no other..and I hope the Troubador lives forever
The ‘Elton John at The Troubador’ story is the best: he was nervous and playing his ballad-y type music and not going over very well. This got him angry and he kicked over his piano stool and started playing rock and roll classics and pounding the keys…and the crowd went bananas! He completely turned it around and went from being a somber singer/songwriter to a great live performer with great songs, too. And it started here.
As a huge music fan I have always wanted to go to a show at the Troubadour. Had my chance to take my eight year old daughter there during our vacation on March 14, 2020 to see Amanda Shires. I was so looking forward to it until the show was canceled and the Covid shut down began. Funny thing, I did get to go to the Comedy Store on March 12 and saw a bevy of comedians including Dean Delray. He was funny as hell with some very topical Covid comedy. That was another dream come true. I think it was their last night before the Covid shut down as well. I wish both those institutions along with all the great music and comedy venues across our country good luck. They need our support now more than ever. I can’t wait for live music and comedy again.
I played the Troubadour several times back in 1994-1995...I would charter 2-3 buses from Orange County and put kegs of beer on each bus. The buses were pretty popular for the time :)...probably ore popular than the band; but we did pack the place. I took the bus home one time after a show...nuf said here.
I live on the Sunset Strip right around the corner from the Whiskey and I drive by The Troub every day and can't wait for COVID to be over so I can go see a show.
Played the Troubadour at least twice that I can remember. Once with Carpenters when Karen was still playing drums, and I can't remember who opened for us on the second date. Speaking of first time performers, I remember seeing a young black comedian who was so nervous back stage he almost got sick. Then he went out and killed it. Richard Pryor. Kris Kristofferson did his first show there also. So many great shows - Ry Cooder, Maria Mauldaur, Gordon Lightfoot, Jennifer Warren - on and on. A great show every weekend for over 50 years. Amazing
Absolutely LOVING the consistent and quality content Gibson is putting out. Mark Agnesi is the perfect host (equal parts relaxed charm coupled with invaluable insight and knowledge) bringing in terrific guests such as Mr. Dean Delray (DDR) in this episode. You guys are the fast-becoming modern-day rock stars. (fuck those tech guys. LOL) Cheers!
My favorite show there was watching the BLACK CROWES play. Marc Ford was on fire! Chris came out bare footed and Charlie Quintana played drums! Bell bottom blues was a standout! Great show that night. I think that they played under the name: Big Toe?
Add The Warning to list of future legends to grace that stage. They are playing January 20th and 22nd, 2022. They just sold out both nights in 15 minutes each night. Mark my words... Future Legends!
Played The Troubadour once. I tried to tell the booking agent we shouldn't perform there. We were so loud that we broke stuff! Banned from playing there ever again.
Oh I have been there when the fire marshall was there before a few times...but that was before they built that overhanging stuff on the left of the stage...there use to only be 2 doors to that place I think...one in front... and one in the back to load in from the alley...If you where a good band... that place would be so packed you could not move

Wow. What an iconic club. The stage is killer. Thanks Gibson for the tour.
Reminds me of the "Soap Factory" in Jersey. Just Rock and Roll heaven!
Gibson really giving us some awesome content lately!

I could watch these over and over, guys. Keep 'em comin'!
I'd happily watch Dean Delray showing Mark Agnesi around a Walmart for an hour. That dude's enthusiasm for life make the world a better place :)

Iconic. I was only out there a while in the early 80's, but I went as often as I could. What a scene. Would be a shame to see it go.
Keep it coming guys! Gibsontv has become must see tv

It started as a Folk Club (for Folk Music). First time I went there was to see John Hartford and Steve Martin was the opening act. This was 1967..
“It’s only Rock & Roll......but I like it!” 🎸🎸🎸
Really, a sweet tour of an iconic venue. I hope The Troubadour lives on and music rings from her rafters again!! Cool stuff Mark, keep it coming!!
Well done! Thanks for the history and tour.

On March 12, 1974 John Lennon and Harry Nilsson got thrown out of the Troubadour for heckling the Smothers Brothers.
Thanks for this. It's great. Dean is the man 🤘

Nice covering the places that rock!
Something really cool about seeing a well used club after hours with no one around. Just imagine if those walls could talk. Incredible
Cheers Gibson
00:45 I was amazed to learn that Sir Elton John kicked off his Tour at the Troubadour in 1970.

This was great !! Been a long time since i saw it but i believe the live bits of Dave Mason's Headkeeper was recorded here. could be wrong.
Nice work Gibson. You let Mark go "back home" for a few days. But budgets ain't what they used to be. He had to sleep on the couch at Norm's.
There are worst couches!
Love Dean! Really enjoyed this episode!
thank you
Another awesome video thanks guys
I'd love to go there. Thanks Gibson this channel pisses all over TV!

I played there in 1987. We made $70 and they charged us $80 for using the lights. So we had to pay the balance, LOL ..

Me too! Lol
PLAYED THERE 1 TIME
Hope more donate! These venues are going to be missed especially if they get snagged up by big corporate venues and they completely ruin them. Donate!
