If would have released it himself, he wouldn’t have reaped the same financial rewards as giving it to Jason Aldean. In summary, this is a smart decision for him at that time. If he wrote the song today, I can see it being more logical for him to release it himself; the reason is that he has built his career to a higher place than when he initially wrote this song about 10 years ago.
