The Princess of Wales is unlikely to be swayed in her fashion choices, despite being dubbed a ‘disappointment’ for her humble choice of jewellery. That’s the view of the Daily Mail’s Royal Editor Rebecca English, who discussed the comments by Suzy Menkes on our royal talk show Palace Confidential.

I was shocked and sad that we have so many people in our world now who must tear down anything that people enjoy, respect, and admire. Never have I seen so much sour grapes and negativity.
I wonder if Suzie Menkes is comparing Catherine with Maxima of the Netherlands. As her namesake, she maximizes her expensive jewelry, which sometimes is out of place and tonedeaf considering the current economic situation. So I side with Catherine and her sensible selections.
sour grapes and negativity is the correct answer here. Those who made those comments are the ones who should be shamed of themselves - for even thinking of the comments... not only for making them. But then I am of the opion that if you have nothing to say but negative and hurtful things - you should think of not saying anything at all. But that is not "writing a newspaper article" and does not sell anything. If the news are only negative - the papers sell better and live is more negative overall. It is a negative circle.
Anyone criticizing the Princess of Wales is showing their jealousy! She is always a delight to see no matter what she wears.
Catherine is a public figure, so it wouldn’t be out of line to critique her. But when the only thing they can come up with is this petty, it’s not a critique. It makes the author look gross, not Princess Catherine.

I have some English roots. My mother taught me to edit my jewelry. Ever see someone with six bracelets on each wrist, a ring or two on every finger, five piercings in each ear, and at least three necklaces? Gaudy, tasteless and actually detracts from one’s attractiveness. Some of the items designers put out is awful. Just because something is allegedly the latest “it thing” doesn’t mean it will fit the shape of your face, your body or even your personality. The Princess of Wales always looks impeccable, represents the UK and royalty most appropriately, and sets a good example for her children. The late Queen would be very happy with her in all aspects. 💖🇺🇸
Princess Kate hits all the right notes with her work outfits. Not too expensive but stylish. It is a look a lot of working women can replicate.

Unfortunately, negative coverage pulls in consumers to sell to advertisers, both those who are critical and those who rash in to support the PoWales.
Also there are plenty of hazbeens and sundry who would grift on her popularity.
It isn’t bipartisan reporting, unless you report all of the facts. They did it in such a way that supported Catherine, which I think is the best way to handle it.
Princess Catherine is anything but a disappointment. She is the most stylish, chic, appropriate, elegant and yet warm and caring and down to earth - all this and she still absolutely DAZZLES in diamonds and heirloom jewels!!!!! she is a champion in every way. Well, this has-been fashion editor (not to body or style shame, but this woman was not a prize) has achieved her five minutes of fame after being in the background and basically being unknown by the public and is being talked about now and in the public eye. Jewels are part of the equation in the Princess of Wales’s position but it would be in truly bad taste to go around over draped in super expensive jewels when the UK and many people worldwide are struggling financially. She has to wear them for her position, but she does it tastefully and minimally. It’s “not her thing” and we should be glad of that. Some people have nothing to do but sit back and nit pick that the Princess of Wales is not drenched in jewels. Really?

I am an American and I absolutely love Princess Catherine and Prince William. They are such a beautiful family and I love how they take time with their children and making sure they grow up with respect for others and to know they are deeply loved and that their life means something. My very stylish grandmother always said to get dressed and made up, with full-on jewelry. Then before you walk out the door look in the mirror and take off half of it. It was her way of saying don’t let your jewelry or accessories dominate the total look. Princess Catherine is not an “editorial piece” in a fashion magazine, she’s not selling jewelry.

Your Balmoral montage was stunning... moving. The music, the family members shown, and that photo of your late, GREAT Queen Elizabeth II sent me over the edge. This American cried tears filled with respect for your past monarch, and looks on your current monarch, his queen, and all the royal family with much respect and appreciation.
Love this, love that our much loved and respected Monarchy is appreciated by so many outside of the UK and Commonwealth, it really makes me involuntarily smile, which is always nice isn't it. To me they are my strength and they have held sway for so long, been a part of my familes lives for generations.
It's nice to have that constant, it's a comfort when everything in life changes so much. I've lost my grandparents, my parents, my brother is an as*hole I havent seen in donkeys years, and yet there still is our King and his family that are as familiar to me as my own, in a sense.
I love them and will always be loyal to them.

As for the reference to the leaky pen, yet again - we all saw that moment when Charles, exhausted from the painful experience of his beloved mother's death, living thru the heartache of Harry's & Meghan's first book, the Oprah interview, the lead up to the Documentary & next books and interviews.
Charles' nerves were justifiably frazzled & a leaking fountain pen on an historical document pushed him. I would have been yelling at that point so - the man had a moment. Nothing compared to the neverending slanderous whinge fest of Harry & Meghan.

I love King Charles, he always makes me smile, even when he gets annoyed. We can all relate. That one moment when you know your being filmed, and you just want the silly tempermental fountain pen to work right for once, and it doesn't hahaha I could so relate, and feel for him. He's a proper sweetheart. Love the fun he and Queen Camilla clearly have. Lots of laughter, and that's worth it's weight in gold.

As a chubby person myself, I would love to know where Rebecca English purchases her dresses. She always looks so great! As for Catherine and her jewelry, she makes herself relatable to the rest of us who can't afford the expensive jewels. Her choices are always so lovely and oft times affordable for ladies like me.

The people who didn't recognise the Queen at Balmoral and asked whether the Queen had ever "met the Queen" were Americans. Even I know that, as Dutchman....
The end of the story is they asked for a pic, so the Queen took one of her bodyguard and them, but also made sure they had one of her. I giggle thinking what happened when they got back to the States and looked at the pics :)
I love the way the Princess of Wales dresses. I think she has marked her transition from the Duchess of Cambridge by upping her game, including some more expensive clothing, but it's been done subtly and in good taste. You should be proud of your Princess!

I have to disagree with Charlotte. No one seems worried at all about Charles’s testiness at times. That video with the pen that leaked all over him was a prime example. It leaked on him and he threw a bit of a fit and NO ONE CARED. Camilla ignored him, grabbed a new pen, and sat down to sign her name. And the staff helped him clean up after letting him vent. No one is afraid of Charles’s mood, temper (we ALL have one) or his kingliness.
Don’t forget he had just lost his mother, and had to put his grief aside to carry on with his duty. So, please don’t blame him for having a ‘moment’ re the pen.

I think the Princess of Wales is doing a great service to local & national designers & jewelry makers by showcasing their creations. Her support adds to national pride and boosts the economy ! What a modern & positive direction for the RF. Certainly we love to see the Royal jewels worn at formal occasions but we can only dream of owning such luxuries. But we can own afford the daily items that Catherine wears. It makes me feel connected to her & proud of her confidence. Thank you.

I loved it when Queen Camilla, spotted the pastry giggled and then told King Charles to take a look... The lady has a great sense of humour and personally, I think she has been wonderful for King Charles. As for the Princess of Wales, I bet she could dress in a potato sack and still look elegant, with her high street fashion accessories. Regardless of the price, she always looks beautiful.
