- Before Dragon Ball Z began in Age 761, there was a long gap between DBZ and Dragon Ball after the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament (Tenkaichi Budokai). What happened during that time? Time for a Dragonball what if! Well, a lot could happen with Goku, Chi-Chi and even Piccolo. What If Goku and others went to space before Raditz came to Earth? What kind of story and adventure could you have that didn't involve lots of ki attacks and yet offered something interesting for our heroes before the Dead Zone movie and Garlic Junior? Let Goku and Piccolo be stronger than their DBZ counterparts and give Raditz a tough time
Hell Zone Grenade wasn’t a move Piccolo taught himself until he got back from Namek if I remember
This makes me also wonder what had happened if we had never gone to space. Now bear in mind I don't mean "Raditz never turned up" I instead mean "What if Saiyans were never a thing and Goku remained unique in having his tail (the Sun Wukong aspect) and equally Piccolo is not a Namekian (as they don't exist either)" basically, what if we had gone into Z but stayed more in line with Dragon Ball. (Also consider that the Android Saga doesn't rely too heavily on the space stuff in its reason for happening so it can still happen albeit in a heavily modified form)

And as for the direction of this story... With knowledge of space, and a fighter's guild of all things, it would be a place Goku would have to go and learn new tricks, new fighting styles, meet new fighters, or... Have a reason to go to Namek, when fighters with a familiar sigil/crest are 'drafted' into Freeza's forces.
This is actually a really unique idea. It also gives Chi chi to do something and probably keep her motivated to be a fighter instead of ending up being the angry housewife we all know her for.
You guys may see her as just an angry housewife, I see her as the mother of Dragon Ball's very future. The Xenoverse wouldn't have been possible if not for her disciplining Gohan.
You have to give ChiChi props for being married to a battle hungry (and literally hungry) Saiyan who leaves for years at a time and has to take care of her kids by herself, except for when her dad Ox King comes over to visit. I respect ChiChi as a character in that regard. She also taught Goten how to fight which is cool.

It's incredibly funny how Goku and Piccolo provided the world with one of the most epic fights ever, then they both left to live in the wilderness for five years.

I have two considerations for the next part of this what if:
1) I'm sure someone among the audience or the other gladiators, knows what a namekian is and will recognize Piccolo as one
2) This could very well lead to a different introduction to the Sayan race given that, in this particular setting, would stand to reason that one low class warrior Sayan was abducted as a fighter. His or her tail cutted off to prevent them to turn into a great ape.
Maybe, we could have this Sayan actually following the trio back to earth in order to ask Piccolo about the Dragon Balls (giving them a reason to make a wish) but, since he's too hard to find, they'll go looking for Goku and Chichi, leading them to learn about both namekians and sayans before even Raditz shows up. Also, there's the fact that Chichi, knowing more about what lies beyond the stars, will probably be more keen to not only allowing Gohan to train in order to defend himself, but also wanting to become stronger herself to protect her family

I'd feel like chichi would probably be more open for goku to train gohan as long as he does his homework of course. Heck she could start training more in this series
Yeah getting his balance going WAY before its even considered in late Z and Super. Gohan could turn out for the better here
Well fighting got them into that situation in the first place, if they weren't strong fighters they wouldn't have been kidnapped, so I can see chichi doubling down on her no training policy with that kind of reasoning
If Toei ever decided to go back to non Canon DBZ Movies like from the 90s, this story would be perfect for that

Here's another question thats been burning me for a while, the saiyan pods should have an almanac of sorts of known planets in their sphere of the universe, with details of each race that they might "conquer" I feel as if bulma took and studied the pod, she'd find a schmorgasboard of information about races they can ally with and what not
Uh, she accidentally blew up Nappa's pod, remember? That's why they had to resort to Kami's old ship, while Dr. Briefs created the one Goku eventually used.

I think this could tie into Raditz learning that his little brother is still alive. I mean, if the Frieza Force has cafeterias on their ships then surely SpaceTV isn't out of the question.

It makes a lot of sense really. There is a ton of races out there in space and many of them were weak enough to be conquered by Frieza and his forces, and we aren't talking his elites either. The standard cannon fodder trooper was seemingly enough to run most of his territory without the likes of the Ginyu squad getting involved.
So there should be tons of interesting and unique worlds out there to explore that are still withing the more modest power levels of the Dragon ball setting.
And this is shortly before Chi Chi’s What if, so it’s a nice teaser into what a married and motherly Chi Chi can do in the ring!

This was amazing like all the other ones. ^^ After listening about half way threw I was wounding, 'what if Chi-Chi trained with Goku after they got married'. o.o
I can already see benefits to Goku, Piccolo and Chi Chi in terms of strength.
Goku and Piccolo are probably at least double their strength from the start of the saiyan saga after so many fights with the Gladiators, and Chi Chi is probably around where Goku and piccolo originally were during the fight with raditz. This doesn't take into account with more motivation to fight stronger guys for Goku, thus getting more of a chance to train more, and Piccolo trying to keep up.
So Raditz will definitely have a harder time fighting them when he arrives.
This has some great potential. I hope more is done with this concept in the future!
Masako, how about your own "What if Vegeta was sent to earth instead of Goku"? Yes, I know there's this Dragon Ball Sai but if I remember correctly it's not complete and still I'd love to see Masako's take.
Yeah Dragon Ball Sai ended after Vegeta vs. Kakarot on Earth. Anyway, it could be interesting to see his take on it

This is the anime equivalent of Thor: Ragnarok and I’m loving it.
So a Fighters Guild interesting I like the idea of a Goku, Chi-Chi, and Piccolo adventure. Maybe this pushes the idea of Chi-Chi been okay with Goku training Gohan as long as it doesn't interfere with Gohan studying (Gohan's studying and training is balanced from the start.), but Chi-Chi joins in training Gohan too. Anyways I'm curious to see how this would effect the Z part of Dragon Ball, and hoping to see another part soon.
Please tell me this is going to be a what if series I would love to see Goku and Freeza meet early especially in his first form

This what if sounds like squid game for dragon ball.
This could very well be the *actual* catalyst for Raditz to go find Goku. Maybe Goku is recognized in one of the broadcasts that the saiyans catch while conquering some planet, which then leads to Raditz taking the journey to reunite with his brother. It makes sense and helps fit this what if even more so as a plausible addition to the canon.
Can't wait to listen to this story, cup of coffee and sitting outside in a cool breeze, this is the cherry on top
It would be cool to see a continuation of this storyline :) Where piccolo and goku befriends each other early on as well as being stronger and having chichi able to keep up from the start of dbz :) This would entirely change dbz and maybe even lead to some cool interactions with the gladiators guild :)
Maybe even Piccolo training Gohan on friendly terms after a premature Goku death…
I actually find it interesting having a more sci-fi vibe into it, Like there's limitless possibilities they can do with This
Wow Goku actually knew there was a duck in space!
I found the Ox King moment very wholesome and while the ending made sense I did have a hope our new bird friend would go back with them. Oh.. well the holidays are very lonely this year so these little story moments are nice.

I'm getting some major "Be gentle with me, Mommy" feelings right now.
I thought they would be more interested on Bringing Tienshinhan or Krillin into the fight seeing how strong they are in that tournament rather then Chichi since she was quite easily beated by Goku. Love the design on the ocs though man,really nice

Since brain cells wouldn't regain memory when growing back, what if cell lost his memory at some point in the arc because his head was damaged

Ah yes, my favourite arc in Dragon Ball,

This would be a cool way of Raditz discovering Goku being alive and on earth. Hearing about Goku from whispers within the galactic underground he would travel to earth to find the "sayian gladiator" he heard so much about. Either he takes this information and goes to earth alone or Vegeta and Nappa arrive much earlier than in the original story. Either way Goku and Piccolo should be much stronger after this adventure maybe about 1,200 and 900 respectively (Unsure how long they were actually held captive but probably a few zenkais and a load of training and battles with similarly powered beings should help) nowhere near Vegeta or Nappa but strong enough to take down Raditz and maybe earn a little respect from the trio.
I imagine with Vegetas power they'd have a day at least to use timechamber
I love this style of video! And The Build a Baddie series was cool, another series like that would be great sometime in the future, but until then, this video gets 2 thumbs up! And great design work to the artists
This would fix my issue with how the Afterlife seems to work in this fashion, yet we never see anything like it in the living galaxy outside of Earth. Sort of spreading the influence of the way of the gods

Loved it, Molta is a great character design and honestly I wouldn't be opposed to see her return in a what if or possibly R&R or Revalation F. The only thing is I was kind of expecting to see possibly monsters since we don't really get to see Earth's wacky creatures and monsters after Dragonball with the only closest thing of natural creatures of earth like that being the dog president or Shu.

This is a really fun idea! It would make a great mid time-skip movie.
When first describing the space fighting organization I immediately thought of the Star Trek Voyager episode Tsunkatse, where 7 of 9 and Tuvok get kidnapped and have to fight in gladiator games against The Rock lol.
If it was canon I could also see it inspiring Goku to train harder from seeing the wide variety of fighters he has to compete against. Fighters from worlds with higher gravity or with wildly different styles.
Also if they managed to snag a ship on their way home that could give Bulma and her father something to toy around with, ultimately reverse engineering it.
This was pretty great
The idea of Many Eyes reminds me a little bit of Mojo from the old X-men comics.
