Looks like a lovely town, Nice shops and cafes, all so clean. Sunshine and trains. We don't have any street running here in UK, apart from trams. We have a system here in Manchester with about 100 stations, a lot of it is on old railway tracks. The yellow trams run at the end of my garden, which used to be one of the main lines to London. Well done for the films Brian.
JT, my guess is that empty auto-racks are being dropped off at the Ford plant in Louisville, while full auto-racks are vehicles assembled elsewhere being to delivered to Louisville or further down the line.
I love watching these of yours, "SIR". And watching the PETS you have is nothing short of HILARIOUS 😂😆. "The "MAIL-MANS WORSE NIGHTMARE", Rolling around in the grass. And that "BALL OF PURRING FURR", attacking that "CATNIP FISH" makes me laugh my head off every time. As I too am an "ANIMAL LOVER" (especially kitty kitty's) as well. The city is promoting the Railfan, with that sweet viewing platform! WHAT’S NOT TO LIKE? LeGrange takes pride in their downtown for sure! Thanks for taking me there again!
They make the Brakeman’s Cottage shake. My husband sleeps like the dead and they woke him up. They look peaceful, but actually they are extremely loud. Lagrange is wonderful, but it is a very noisy little place.
Those were two long auto rack trains that you uploaded in this video, Jaw Tooth! Thank you for capturing these two auto rack trains heading for Louisville, Kentucky. The driver of that car at the beginning of the video had no choice but to turn around to find some way of not being hit by the first train. There was no room for him/her to go forward because there was no clearance between the train and the parked cars. If the cars were parked parallel to the curb, there could have been room for the car to drive between the train and the parked cars. I am looking forward to at least one more video from your stay at the Brakeman's Cottage in LaGrange, Kentucky.
6 south bounds a day 3 of which are auto racks. A local corn syrup train runs north and south 3 times a week. Also there can be X trains which are not on the regular schedule and can be auto racks. North bound most don't use this route. The one's most likely to are manifests with tank cars of chemicals like chlorine which have a toxic or poison inhalation risk. These trains are prohibited by federal regulations from using the alternate route . Reason for rail traffic being mostly one way is limited siding capacity. Less than 9000 feet. Some of these trains are longer.
Now that's up close railfanning! Maybe only some of them have cars in them because there were only some chips to put in the cars and they're running out of storage space to park all the incomplete cars. I wonder if any kids try to hop on the cars in a failed attempt to be the cool kids.
Many autorack railcars are delivered to the north railyards in Houston, Texas. Auto transport trucks load them to take them to dealers. The autoracks come from U.S. & Canada assembley plants and the seaport of Houston off Galveston Bay on Buffalo Bayou. The ship channel is just a dug out bayou.
The person in the car wanted to avoid the train and almost didn't :) It was certainly autorack central that day - very long trains! That is a nice place to stay :)
There is a major Ford plant in Louisville KY so that is probably why the empties are going there. But other manufacturers will also be supplying to the Louisville area too.
@18.06 - just spotted the dropper off the overhead span-wire holding the black cable up and just clear of the passing trains! Excellent video - thank you! 🙂
Looks in his it's car mirror 😂😆 seen big train coming behind him crazy 😧 saw video 1 years where a train smack car was trying driving one Jason's video
Excellent video it's a holiday here in Canada so Happy Thanksgiving to you I know ours comes a month early before you guys hey enjoy all the very best!
I noticed the 15mph speed limit sign. Wonder how fast the train was going? The close up shots in the video just shows how large a train going down main street is.
Nice Hy-Rail catch, that was cool. Funny watching cars scramble to get out of the way, hope they know trains don’t stop on a dime. Great street running video !! 👍👍👍
Just think that except for the overall small space the Brakemans Cottage is a perfect bachelor's Apartment. Also if you were married you could keep the wife happy because who wouldn't want to do housework as you don't have that much to clean and you could pause to watch the train go by. Sometimes I got to travel with my dad in his sales territory and it always included a night in Galesburg IL and the reservation was at the Travelodge second floor east side for a full View of the Santa Fe main. It also had a pool in front with a Trackside View Plus the Toddle House Cafe had a good breakfast with Trackside scenery. The grass apparently was cut to the right height as all three dogs were rolling in it
JT, I love the way the Locos come into town slow, then once they clear the town they can speed up. It's wild when the freight cars speed up. Lagrange a great place to catch trains. Great videos.
The first auto train had 119 cars, the 2nd auto train had 79 cars. The 2nd train really gained speed as it went by. I wish the RRs could do something to stop or at least lessen the outrageous graffiti painting on the freight cars. Back in 1966, I worked as a yard clerk for the then Santa Fe, and the grafetti was just starting. Love notes like "Johnny Loves Suzie" were painted here and there.
It still doesn’t make sense to me how running such long trains is economically sound. It requires huge amounts of land to arrange and receive these long trains, ties the hands of the railroads in flexibility, ties up small towns for significant times when passing etc. running more frequent, shorter trains would greatly improve this.
That makes sense on an electrified road, however not viable in the US or Australia. With such vast distances to cover, it's more efficient to drive longer trains rather than electrify the road, or run more locomotives on it.
@@JawTooth I did. The date was September 7 if I remember right. I’d like to go down again. @@taminator5559 I love filming trains in the snow. That would be great staying there and having a warm place next to the street running tracks. I have been there in the winter and I tend to visit the shops more often then Lol
Cool Video! Looks like Someone has too much Time on their hands to Paint the Whole Side of the Autorack Cars! Always wonder if the Autoracks were Empty when they painted them.
Ford has two plants in Louisville making a bunch of models so they maybe making a larger more diverse train getting more from the Midwest before heading east or west.
Vehicles trying to foul up trains seems to be a common occurance in that town. I can't figure out with today's technology why they couldn't have sensors say a mile outside of town that would trip when a train goes by and have warning lights to clear the space inside the white lines, That's my 2 cents. Great video, thanks much!
Idk why, but Lagrange looks like a good place to visit. I would love to sit there and watch the street runners. Also, what is with people having deathwishes with trains
That Breakmen’s cottage is the perfect place to stay for the visiting railfan, that and the railfan platform. Do people even look when backing up, especially in Lagrange and with an oncoming train. Such a beautiful town there, wish I had time to visit. One thing I’ve learned about having a pet JT is they love being the center of attention, cat or dog alike. CSX sure does move a lot of autos though Lagrange. Thanks for sharing JT.👍🏼 awesome video.

The first street running train has 121 cars. As it doesn’t drive fast, it takes almost 9 minutes to pass the crossing.

I suspect they turned on that street, saw the train, and made a weird U turn to avoid the train.
