@@scoutman I was trying to say skinless and boneless chicken breasts for protein. Neither my chihuahua nor my schnauzer grand-dog are fond of the skin. Idk what the nutritional impact that would make since I don’t include it. I can’t imagine it being all that “good” for them, like us. And I forgot to mention, brown rice not white. I will usually cook a good bit at once, given I buy a pack of chicken breast from Sam’s which contains a lot so that way I can then I pack them up with my Food-saver and freeze them with the outward, visible label dated with its contents. This saves me an extraordinary amount of time because I just pull out for each and put it in a little of hot water bowl and let it soak while I am cooking regular dinner and by the time I’m finish my dinner, it will have already thawed out a little bit, enuf for me to get it out the pack, and I toss it into a bowl and put it in microwave just for a few seconds because my furbabies do not their dinner cold. lol I will also take the chicken broth from the pot and freeze it as well, separately of course.😊

It’s all so confusing. My 11 year ol Havanese was just diagnosed with a severe enlarged heart. I’m in shock. I don’t trust any of the food now. They put him on 2 meds and don’t hold much hope. I want him to be comfortable and when he starts to suffer we will have him put down. I’m hoping he goes in his sleep peacefully without an episode. My brother’s dog just died this morning of CHF. This dog may be doing better due to a diet change, BUT our cardiologist also said that our mini mixed poodle had CHF due to grain-free diet. The study that doctors refer to for this diagnosis is flawed and 50% of the dogs that were in the study had normal Taurine levels. We even stated that we fed our dog meats as well on the intake forms. We were also told she had DCM due to genetics(mini mixed poodles don't get DCM BTW). We asked what else it could be because none of our research made sense with this diagnosis. The cardiologist said the only other possibility could be Chagas Disease(caused by a parasite transmitted by a bug through fecal matter). But she said it doen't seem likely at all. Well, we tested for Chagas Disease and guess what...SHE HAS CHAGAS DISEASE! There are many cases of this in the southern US, but is spreading. We were told that most doctors do not suggest testing for Chagas, but I can only imagine how many dogs have this disease and is misdiagnosed leaving their owners to lose their dogs for no reason at all. OUR DOG NO LONGER HAS SIGNS OF CHF. We continued with a raw meat diet and mixed in grain-free food. We also give her kidney support supplements and 200mg of Ubiquinol daily. In western medicine WE have to manage our own healthcare as well as our pets. There is a place for some of the medications that do save lives in emergency situations, so I am not against taking meds when needed. The paradigm of our medical system is a drone of stagnant science and close mindedness. I wish you all the best with your pups and if you get that gut feeling something isn't right...DO YOUR RESEARCH UNTIL YOU FIND AN ANSWER. There are warrior doctors out there that are innovating new cures and diets
I've read that testing for this is difficult and getting rid of the parasites also difficult...do you remember what test your dog took, and how did you get rid of the parasite ? I have a poodle mix also and suspicious of his recent diagnosis of DCM

Supplement taurine, the study was linked to low meat in packaged food with a bunch of additives/substitutes. A lot of animals that were supplemented were able to reverse. Check out Dr Andrew Jones vet. He gives updates.
I think you should go to another vet. My sister relied on one vet for her dog, and now she has an enlarged heart. Because they just kept saying things and not really care. Find a vet that would really care. The new vet we have now has given medicine and went through foods the dog can't have and foods she should be eating. She can't be given snacks or even milk anymore.
Grain free isn't the problem. It's the foods that are high in legumes/peas and lacking meat causing the problem. They lack taurine. Almost all commercial diets have mycotoxins in them so you have a lot more to worry about then heart problems. Why do you think so many dogs end up with kidney disease? Mycotoxins.
@@PatrickA1 it's unfortunate. There are still some decent brands out there though, like Orijen. Stay away from Hills, Purina/Purina One, Royal Canin or anything that has corn or rice (especially as the first two ingredients.) The study was linked to low taurine because these substitued with fillers like peas had significantly lower meat amount. Taurine is found in meat. These animals were supplemented.
