Thanks! I think this is the story that most accurately portrays humans. We will risk our lives to save dogs trapped in icy lakes, or nurse back to health a baby duck, or make a prosthetic for a wounded turtle. This is my favorite story because it doesn't focus on our warlike nature, but our compassion for life other than our own
'Hey aliens, we domesticated several of our predators for companionship and pack-bonded with unthinking an non-human robots we built ourselves, we'll throw ourselves onto the pyre for you too.'
the more i think about it, the more I feel like Adam Savage would be the perfect person to act as the captain if these stories ever got made into a movie or show
I really enjoy the stories of "Krills Odessey with the Humans" original and not full of "at-the- last-minute we humans invented a new weapon with our indomitable human spirit whatever politically correct enemy". Your stories brighten my day, thank you!
To maintain life, in human instinct, is to maintain the life of the group, for that group includes your children, their friends, their livelihood. To sacrifice your own life to ensure others' lives, therefore, is backed by biological impetus and psychological reinforcement. Your father GAVE HIS LIFE for you; you and your friends will be inspired to attempt to do the same should danger come. You may even survive the endeavour, and pass on MORE genes with that urge to put the group before yourself. Thus, Self-Sacrifice, though seemingly unintuitive and wasteful, is selected for in the human genome, and a valuable instinct that protects the tribe. As for interspecies altruism, humans have formed an interspecies bond that allowed them to quite possible outcompete their relatives; That of humans and wolves. This bond was built on pity forming into an altruistic, mutually beneficial bond with an entirely different species. That bond has since been supported by genetic selection multitude times, and so the human capacity for interspecies altruism has grown in the past 20,000 years or so, leading to the "Will pack-bond with anything" Stereotypically highly Xeno-social humans the galaxy knows so well today. That instinctual protection has thus transcended the genetic border of species, as protecting your tribe's dogs will ensure your tribe's prosperity, and thus your child's prosperity. And so while it may seem impossible for the logical jump from self-altruism to interspecies altruism to form genetically, Humanity's unique history with dogs has allowed the instinct to form.
@@darreny1375 technically that one is better, you want 100 bpm and stayin alive is 101 bpm. Also unfortunately, that song is more statistically accurate in times when cpr is performed.
Tip I learned from a major TH-cam creator, Matpat: ask for only one thing, either comment, or subscribe, or a like. Asking for multiple makes any of them less likely; asking for only one of them makes it way more likely to happen. It was in one of the interviews he did close to or right after retiring. He had a 10+ year career and ran 4 channels successfully.
That's the one thing that always bugs me about these sorts of stories. If the alien race is air breathing and space faring, then they should have learned something akin to CPR for their species. Only hard stiff beaks would get in the way of the breathing part of the procedure. The chest compressions should be mimicible by anything with manipulator limbs.
So, during CPR, it is no longer recommended to give "the kiss of life." As it turns out, most lungs, especially mammalian lungs, self inflate. And if your lungs aren't self inflating... well, you have a bigger issue than breathing.
As for chest compressions, given the amount of force required to do that usefully for a human, and the fact that that much force is more than enough to damage the rib cage quite badly, and the need for the compressions to be Rythmic in order to do their thing properly, well, it's not hard to come up with reasons a species might not be able to actually perform that sort of trick. Now, being able to perform the task mechanically, in a hospital setting, sure, they absolutely should be able to. But that's a different matter entirely.
I was hearing, Krill, missing eye, Vir until it clicked on me! Empyrean Iris! The short stories are really cool but when the main plot unravels it's awesome!!
Someone should get together Krill and zoologists/sociologists of his species, and show them videos of wild Terran birds & mammals adopting one another’s young. It’d blow their minds.

I only discovered your videos a short while ago. They're very well done and I enjoy them. I've also discovered the difference between Humans are Space Orcs and HFY. I greatly prefer Humans are Space Orcs. I like stories about humans being helpful, friendly, and generally just people. HFY videos are more like 1980's action movies about humans being fierce warriors that shouldn't be trifled with. Your videos are much better. Thank you for sharing.

I just gotta ask For a species who cannot swim and whose children cannot float to avoid needing to swim Why were there *bars* on their handrails and not glass panels xD
I usually love these as wonderful elseworld fiction, but this one really took me out of the narrative. You're meaning to tell me that a species capable of inter-planetary trade and alliances somehow don't have the basic understanding of revival protocols in their medical system? Yeah, it may be rare but even human kids know that doctors can sometimes "wake up" people if they start dying. That feels like saying the Amish managed to open trade with Alpha Centauri without using electricity. I know I'm getting stuck on the wrong end of the point of this story, but a species as a whole willing to instantly write off their own after an accident just stretches the logic. I'm still struggling to find an equivalent from our world where an instant death sentence for kids doesn't have a dozen countermeasures to prevent it.

Yeah, these do a good job highlighting what makes us what we are from a biological prospective and who we are from a social prospective and I love it.
