Very resourceful with everything in building this little Cabin. The place, pallets, Tarp, earth filler for insulation between pallet rails. Great job, and very full filling. Your dog is a great companion. The way the world is now, a great place to escape too.

Certainly would cut the cost of time greatly in making a shelter with essentially a pre-made structure. Something to worry about in that spot though would be slipping and flooding.

Just what people need to witness, a man working rather than asking others to meet his needs.
Sad this is how some have to get bye, and don't understand those choosing to do this. But the more
I learn about others, distance really does lend entrancement. Must be a very good man with his dog standing by him.
God Bless him and his endeavors.

As a kid in Michigan I used old lumber and crooked nails, built lots of forts, hunting stands, and river rafts using hand tools brace and bit to drill holes, the bucksaw for wood cutting and a cross-cut saw for finished work, one man trash is another man's treasures, your woodworking and masonry skills are appreciated great adventure, is this on your property, I see the Aery next to your location. ever thought about a tree fort, with a fireplace. sure do take good care of Gracie, always look forward to your next great challenge, and I really like the stone cabin with the fireplace, the one you rebuilt the door for. Always entertaining without speaking, you let the wind and the woods do your talking.

Looks like a good temporary and primitive shelter to live in for a couple of years in while taking time to build a longer-lasting home. This shelter could last a lot longer than two years in the desert but maybe less than a year in the tropics where Formosan termites are plentiful. Mildew, rot and mud will be on-going problems with this structure in a wet climate. Field mice, squirrels and other small wild animals will not have difficulty getting inside by burrowing under the walls, gnawing or digging through the walls or climbing the walls and either squeezing under the tarp or gnawing through the tarp.

Hi All, It would add about $100 to the price, but if you dipped burlap from Uline in cement mix from Home Depot, held it up with chicken wire, you could seal the walls. About $40 burlap, $5 cement, $40 chicken wire. Thanks, take care.

Hi All, One tool I don't see a lot of people use is the post hole digger. In this case, it is light to carry in, and you can glue up 2 by 4s into a P-Lam beam if there are no reasonably large trees to make your pole barn roof. Thanks, take care.

Hi. I had a best friend, that was from a really poor family, that busted up and beat-down cardboard and stuffed it into their walls, for insulation. It worked really well and it was FREE. Their ceiling was mainly big pieces of thick cardboard, painted white. The walls were, what at one time was an old "coal-house" that They lined with painted on both sides thick cardboard with busted up cardboard in between the old board and Batton shed walls and the cardboard. They had 2 windows framed out, but just a piece of plastic stretched over them. It was off the grid...no electricity no water. They had a dug outhouse.
I measured the window in their kitchen and built a Sheet-Metal box, that would Just-Fit. I put racks in it and screw holes. I took it down there and we installed it thru the window hole and sealed it with silicone outside. Then we screwed the insulated door on it. During the winter months, the cold, outside would transfer thru the sheet metal and be a real good refrigerator, and the insulated door would keep the cold out of the house and the heat; from their cook-stove, inside the room. In the summer months, after they cooked a meal, they could put the food in there and it would keep it warm and keep any bugs off of it.
There was a spring up the holler from them and they needed another 100 feet of hose, so I got that and a bunch of hose repair couplings and we ran a garden hose from the spring to their house. It ran all the time. They kept an old claw-foot bathtub there, for the water hose to run into. That ended up being the watering trough for their cow. They put some old cookie pans into the dirt at the run!off from the bathtub, for the chickens to water themselves, and their coup was made from old crates and shipping containers and scraps from everywhere. They knew how to salvage things and very many ways to use things, that you would have never thought of!
That was over 50 years ago. It does my memory good, to see videos of folks doing, as a hobby, what they did to survive daily life. They made it and were happy.
Memories from Bill of Tennessee 🇺🇸

@@general5104 Thank you for sharing such a great story of self reliance. We are so spoiled with our conveniences, but our lives are not better for them.
I have some of Eric Sloane's books. He was an artist, now deceased, that saw the beautiful landscape of our country vanishing. He did drawings and photographs to save for future generations the lost ways of yesteryear. His books are worth their weight in platinum.
      God bless America.
