Check out my "Grand Canyon Backpack, December 2020" video to see what Phantom Ranch looks like with Covid restrictions.

Thank you for putting this video together. I really enjoyed it and thought it was very informative for us up coming "first timers". My sister and partner traded off carry and young ash tree to Phantom Ranch, they were Phantom Ranch employees at the time. We will be hiking to the Phantom Ranch this Oct 2019. When we get there we will be looking for the ash tree.

I hiked down on December 6, 2013 and out on December 8 the year that I shot this video. That's my backpack seen at the beginning of the video. There was just a little snow on the south rim and on the trail that year. This was the 23rd of 24 backpacks I have done to the bottom. The group I have been with have always prepared to stay in the Bright Angel Campground, but in bad weather we have occasionally been able to reserve a cabin at Phantom Ranch after hiking down, as was the case this year.

Thanks, good video, alas alot has changed since this video - I think covid changed it alot. The canteen is no longer open during the day for visitors and the dormitories are not available at this time. Apparently the NPS is having water issues. You were lucky to go when you did.

I wonder how much a walking stick cost? They didn't look particulary elegant.

I am planning a trip down but have two questions I hope you can help me with. What time of the year did you go and did you hike down or take mules. Wonderful video

Beautiful area but the lack of privacy in the lodging is something that I would have trouble with. If someone snores you won't get a good nights rest.

5:22 I don’t like that font, especially the funny capital letter “W”.
