Downstaters complain about Chicago folks being out of touch because they never go to the rest of Illinois, but they sure don't make it easy to visit. Meanwhile New York and North Carolina both put up temporary Amtrak stops for their state fairs. The Amtrak line through Springfield even goes right by (okay, a block away) the fair.
@@karatransitfur I think you should expand it beyond Chicagoland. There are lots of cool things in small towns outside of Chicago in Illinois and nearby states!
I was briefly obsessed with fried Oreos as a kid, and learned how to make them and would share them with friends and at school. Coincidentally, it was also the first time girls actually wanted to talk to me.
Your diet was destroyed at the fair? Nah, your diet was destroyed the moment you made that Chicago-style dog using a 7-Eleven dog with Classy Whale! 😂Yup, the butter cow isn't completely butter! 500 pounds of unsalted butter are used to sculpt the life size figure by hand, and the process takes about five days. Since the whole sculpture weighs 800 pounds, the framework underneath the butter weighs about 300 pounds. I don't blame you for not wanting to ride the chairlift. When I lived in Jersey City, Pershing Field park would have an annual carnival and my mom never thought those travel-style rides were safe because of the way they're set up. But hey, I appreciate the fact they have a Cuban booth at 13:37! I know when it comes to Caribbean food, Jamaican is talked about a lot but Cuban food is underrated! Mojito, cafecito, frita (Cuban hamburger), Cuban sandwich, ropa vieja, pastelitos, there's something for everyone!
The best way to get to the fair where I live is the streetcar. The nearest parking to the fair is 1.5 miles away so almost all people will take the streetcar. People from other cities will tend to take the train because the two lane highways are completely full of traffic.
Cool video I didn't know that fairs were still a thing. I agree every hour service sucks anywhere it's implemented, the fact the 1 route which should be a major ridership route gets every hour on weekends and every 30 weekday in a college town and state capital is kinda nuts. Why am I watching this at 2am 😂
It's nice to have a reminder that outside Chicagoland, Illinois is still a very rural, agricultural state. There are similar events with long histories in various rural parts of the UK too.
As far as I know, Illinois is the only state with more than one state fair. If you’re up for the adventure, you can take the Illini/Saluki down to DuQuoin. There’s no butter cow, but it’s got just about everything else (including a secondary governor’s mansion that’s only been used once).
Did this for the MN state fair from where I live in the Detroit area this weekend. Rode a bus to the Detroit airport. Flew to MSP on Spirit, and rode the light rail and bus to the fair
Sadly, this is the joy of small city transit. Except in college towns (and sometimes even then) the infrequent schedule and bad websites are typical. They treat the buses almost like an afterthought rather than a real form of transit. By the way, should you return to Springfield, the Lincoln stuff is pretty cool, and most of it is within walking distance of the Amtrak station.
Hey you’re at The State Fair I don’t think people are going to complain about you eating Fried Twinkies lol😂😂😂😂😂😂. You’re supposed to eat unhealthy foods at a fair it’s kinda hard to not to eat healthy at a fair unless you try very hard and that’s what people call being a buzzkill.
The Parque San Isidro has a metro stop, and the fair area in Nancy is about 3 blocks from the form TVR (at Point Central)-but you can get lost trying to walk to both still despite how close and frequent the transit is (both were around 7 mins all day)
Nice video of the fair. When I lived in Dallas Texas the State Fair of Texas was, and is, on the edge of downtown. Now I live in Los Angeles California in downtown and the Los Angeles County Fair is not in Los Angeles but in Pomona 30 miles away by car. Taking public transportation here to there is not worth it. It's not even worth taking it locally if you want to live till the next day that is. Living in Los Angeles now I refuse to go all the way to Sacramento for the California State Fair.

For what it's worth, I grew up downstate, but I don't recall ever going to the State Fair! I do with it was easier to get to without driving.
I’m surprised you didn’t make this an episode of transit tourist.
Transit Tourist is more Chicagoland-centered! At least that's my aim for it

Butter cow is somehow quintessentially Illinois

I’d love an extra large slice of PAIN, please and thank you

You should take Amtrak to the DuQuoin State Fair in Southern IL. It’s within walking distance of the DQN station.
