A journey through all the layers of an artificial neural network.
This video is made using a visualization technique applied to a neural network trained to recognize a broad range of images. Each frame is recursively fed back to the network starting with a frame of random noise. Every 100 frames (4 seconds) the next layer is targeted until the lowest layer is reached.

I be having a similar experience when i drift away to sleep, I purposely let it happen and i start to see images and let my mind vision whatever it wants, some things are indescribable yet it’s crazy because i feel like I’m able to see it clearly. I feel like it boosts my creativity and i take advantage of that.

Matt Hamirick I did too. That's something normal that your brain does even without the crazy visuals. When it sees continuous motion, that motion becomes the normal so when the motion stops your brain expects the motion to continue and there's a delay before it realizes that it's "normal" needs to change. It also happens when looking at those crazy images that look like they're moving when they're not.
***** Glad you said it, I was about to say the same. Another situation where this occurs is where you look at a particular color/image and then look at a white wall. The result is that you see an opposite, ghost image of what you were viewing. Also, you can try wearing colored glasses for a while then remove them.
I've had a similar effect after playing a 3D game and then getting up to go to the bathroom. I feel like the world has become the game. I can recall a few sessions with Minecraft that induced this.

but the thing about the mandelbrot set is that it's this wondrously complex mathematical object that results from iterations of an extremely simple function: f(z) = z^2 + c
deep dream produces wondrously complex images as a result of... a shit ton of training data and a shit ton of computation. really gorgeous results but mandelbrot is still a better example of mathematical beauty, imo.

I think these patterners says much about how our brain works, always trying to recognize patterners in things, and how we have a ancestral mind still, i saw many animals in the images.
This deep dream was created to mimic the human brain and creativity. It was an experiment basically to see if A.I. could be "creative."
The way they did this was by trying to mimic the way humans recognize patterns. That was how they were measuring creativity. So you are correct.

in my philosphy of mind class years ago (so bear with me if i am rusty) we learned about a theory of consciousness called epiphenomenism where consciousness floats above the biochemical physical processes in the brain and is more connected to the physical than in strict dualism where its just mind/mental or soul. similarly, here you have ANN which is the "consciousness" and the buochemical processes are these images. the "organizational" force/unifying "thing" is the ANN. also, you can take it a step farther and shed some light into the saying "god/truth is infinity" and the truth/god would,be the ANN and the infinity would be these visuals which stretch out to infinity. this Inceptionism ANN is like a model for comsciousness and even concepts in god/truth is what im trying to very roughly say. also, i feel this has the potential to model epistemological and possibly metaphysical concepts/problems. we are limited by the quantity of data we feed it and processing speed which scarily enough in this day is basically unlimited. this has the potential to be....... ORGANIC.

Inceptionism is the most amazing thing I've ever seen. Just thinking about it makes you learn news things. Layer or combine this "program" with that app where you can translate a physical text into another language by looking at it on your camera like some weird matrix thing and stick that on some special glasses. Special glasses which can allow you to see this transposed onto the real world by being both virtual glasses and real time video tape glasses and welcome to a new world. This has even made me think about Truth and Infinity and the possibility of a "one". Probably metaphysical reality really is like this with Truth, or if you're a believer God, being the epiphenomenone. Would be cool if the recursion could be bigger, made up for more data and pools of images. More variety. Also, would be cool if you made one of clouds in the skies with a bunch of Greek gods morphing into them, for ex you could have Zeus on his chariot with trident slowly pointing down from the image. Well done Google.

The Google Deep Dream video is amazing and just wasn't complete without a suitable soundtrack.
The mechanisms which lead to this kind of video aren't too different from what happens in our heads when we eat 'magic mushrooms' or LSD. Interesting, huh :D

The image set used to train most of these neural networks used to generate deep dream imagery features a lot of dogs, fountains and eastern architecture. That's why you'll see a lot of that going around.
There's some stuff around from neural networks not trained on this same image set that feature completely different associations, although they're still as trippy. Hasn't caught on much yet.
Right, that is my understanding. It really ought to have been cats.

There's tools out there that you can use to train your own neural network with your own image set. You could train it on thousands of cat pictures alone and see what happens...

I find the deepdream visuals very similar to the effect of mushrooms, so much so that when I was on them I was staring at the wall and turned to my brother and said "oh, I see. I completely understand A.I. now".
What is interesting is that it tries to copy nature, but it fails miserably, it tries to emulate fractals but it does not get it right...

Now this explains why my sleep paralysis is so scary. I've had multiple sleep paralysis and its scary every single time. I miraculously remember something that happened in my dream from 10 years ago til now. It was a sleep paralysis that had nothing scary happened . I wondered why there wasn't anything scary, and then there it is, the scary thing... Time to do voiceless scream as loud as i can once again.

Fantastic and wonderful.
But I never could get to where I was going.
Some of this was great, it was an image growing larger and larger with more and more detail. Other parts were terrible, with images literally appearing as you were passing it, breaking the illusion.
Those dogs and other animals you see arent you seeing things, its the program trying to apply prototypical images in places where it thinks it sees a pattern that matches. Google deep dream was apparently mostly trained with images of dogs and human faces, so most of the prototypical images it has at its disposal are dogs and eyes. Thats why those appear to show up so often.
I love how much this screws with your pareidolia.
I'm gonna have nightmares after seeing something like this.
