      @@chrisoconnor9021 I picked up an 05 about 7 months ago with 16k for just a little less than that. Added a pipe and -1 +2 gearing. The gear change made the thing ridiculous! Best bang for buck mod on these bikes for sure. That's coming from someone who has had a ZX12R and a GSXR 1000.

    The gen 1 fz1 is the 15th quickest production bike ever made for any year, and yet it is so comfortable that you can ride it all day.

    • @Meekerextreme

      Yup, i would buy another if they brought it back out. It's why I bought it, lots of power, looks good and you can ride it all day.

    Idk anything about technical stuff but I bought a gen 1 in 2102 and have put 40k on it with very little maintenance, Yamaha done a good job with this one.

    • @Meekerextreme
      @Meekerextreme  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup, one of the best bikes Yamaha made for the street. Then they changed it to be more sporty and that ruined it for me. Being a more upright riding position is what sold me on it. At the time I was looking at the Bandit 1200S and the ZRX1200. I would have saved a LOT buy buying the Bandit 1200 but it was worth the extra $2,000 to have the FZ1. I wish Yamaha would bring it back out in a standard format. If I wanted a sport bike I'd buy a sportbike.

      @@Meekerextreme Yamaha doesn't need to bring it back out for you to get one again. I just bought an 02 with 6000 miles and it looks and feels pretty damn new to me. The price I paid would cause new bike buyers to vomit all over their shiny new piggy bank buster realizing how for just a small slice of brand new price, there's a sweet little gem barely broken in ready to do a man proud.

    I have a 2003, and I love it.
    I bought it with the super rare lower oem fairings, and it looks so sporty.
    I have spent the winter servicing it, and plan to do a jet kit and better rear shock.
    Can't find much to fault the bike for. It's almost too fast for a streetbike. I rarely get out of 2nd gear.

    • @Meekerextreme
      @Meekerextreme  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup they need to bring it back how it was a standard bike. It's why I bought it the upright riding position and all day comfort.

      @westondifranco9313 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Meeker Extreme Take the same motor, but fit fuel injection to it.
      And maybe increase the HP at the crank a little due to how choked it would need to be to pass emission regulations.
      It's a comfy couch, and I prefer touring on it vs a cruiser.

    I've had 2, sold my first to a good friend who needed a bike... and regretted it the moment the keys left my hand... I went through several bikes after that BMW 1200GS LC, fazer 2008 Gen2 ( Way too snappy throttle even after the fix, and only 200km to a tank.. Hello Yamaha what were you thinking!) Other bikes have come and gone and some have stayed ... along with my 2nd Fazer 1000 Gen2 which I found in Zurich and bought online without even testing, traveled over 8hrs to pick her up and was smiling like the first time I rode a bike… Brilliant bike.... so over engineered... and as they say they don't make em like they used to! Cheers....

    • @Meekerextreme
      @Meekerextreme  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup, if they brought back a standard motorcycle (the FZ1) I'd buy one. That is how much I miss the bike. That would get me back into street bikes. Otherwise I have no interest and will continue with Dirt Bikes and Dual Sports (one can argue a Dual Sport is a street bike but I mainly ride dirt roads with them). Even the Bandit 1200, that was what I was going to buy or a ZRX1200...yeah the manufactures are missing the point. I got the FZ1 because I didn't have to lay over and it made for an awesome trip motorcycle and was plenty fast. Yamaha and others don't get it.

    A good job for the most part, you forgot to add the valves shim check milage ?
    After all it says its a maintenance video, say so at bottom. BTW it's a great bike, I like it, maybe even enough to buy one. Thanks, yl

    • @Meekerextreme
      @Meekerextreme  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is NOT MY VIDEO, this is Yamaha's official video for the techs, sales and what have you at the dealerships to watch when the bike came out in 2001. At the time I started the FZ1OA, and had an inside person get me the video ;-)

    • @ylism
      @ylism 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, I am sure there is a way to find out, the miles to check the valves shims ?

    • @Meekerextreme
      @Meekerextreme  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** From what I recall you need to check them every 28,000. I had 48,000 miles on my 2001 when I sold it and it ran fine. I used to have the service manual but it went with the bike.

    • @ylism
      @ylism 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is way more than most bikes, most are checked from 12,K to 16k miles; it saves a lot of time & money to. The only thing better is the self adjusting types, but they few, these day. Sometimes I think tech is going backwards in this area. BTW how was the suspension on the older FZ1 bikes, if you still remember ? I forget things like this after a few years, its just generalisations of the bikes, or cars..lol If they stood out, that is a little different. In the tech video it seems to do well. Thanks you, yl

    i'm about to buy an 03 fz1 im excited it might be the bike i've always wanted ... getting a great deal because the bike is stuck in gear any idea what the culprit could be ? i'm thinking it is some spring or detents

      You are totally wrong.

    • @Pozzer528
      @Pozzer528 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are dead wrong. Read up on the Gen 1. Ask motorcycle mechanics. The Gen 1 quality is so much better than Gen 2. There is a Gen1 on TH-cam with over 300,000 miles ! You will never do that with a Gen 2. I rest my case.
      However if you are referring to the first year of gen 2 ( 2006) you are correct. They had major frame issues ! Had to do a tea all on Gen 2 for 2006- 2008.
