This was 55 years ago. Mick and Keith are still at it. Incredible.
100%
Sonically, there’s no song in history that touches Gimme Shelter. So ahead of it’s time.
You are so right about the sonics - the sound of this song. I was there in '69 to buy it own it listen to it. And I've been listeing ever since. Let it Bleed is their best album of all time and it never disappoints, especially this great, phenomenal track.
so true no one is cooler and no one moves like Jagger......thumbs up if you agree
Jagger is the only one to be live here, as often the band recorded the soundtrack before.
How many lead singers bring this kind of energy to the front stage anymore!?!? It's amazing!
And still doing it in 2022!
Mike and I ..
I’ve heard it’s because the cocaine wasn’t as pure as it was back then
@@live_wire14 The Chinese cant even makes drugs right!
What on EARTH is cooler than Mick's ascension to the mic at minute 2:56. Good Lord!
i noticed that too ! like damn he was in a whole different sphere
TroyboyTv Ha, good way of describing that!
+pup lover
Haha..it's almost like he tricked the camera into going slow mo at the very moment. He was definitely out of this world for that moment in time.
mick,s singing and dance moves were the best between 1969 and 1974
Just about anything you can think of is quite a lot cooler that that.
No other song has ever summed up dark tumultuous times like this one, still completely relevant
i like the female vocal on the other version, but i really like this version with the guitar levels, perfect ,,,,hate the video eddit
And nobody is doing anything about it. CCP overthrow.
Hey, hippiecheez, I think I remember seeing you on a Funkadelic video 😎
Mah fav band
1969 was completely different from 2020 what are you talking about?
@@adrianpierce3047 the guitar is literally dubbed from the audio version
Taylor and Wyman look like they are having a great time here. Usually don't see them smile like this on stage...wonderful
3:19
and Charlie...
They are smiling because it is fake.
This is a TV show and probably they’re miming. When the song was first recorded, Mick Taylor didn’t play with the Stones yet; Richards had to write and play all the guitar parts for the absence of Jones and maybe that’s why we can hardly see him on this footage
The Rolling Stones in their bare bones, so much rawness and attitude in this version.
Never should have let MICK TAYLOR get away.
One of the greatest & under-rated blues guitarists in the world.
He is brilliant, the best years when he was in the band.
Oh yes !!!
He walked out of them I think. Couldn't handle the lifestyle
He's a brilliant guitarist, but Keith played ALL the guitar parts on this track!
He didn't play on this track, but nice flex.
Not a huge Stones fan but this song is amazing. Any man who can write a tune like this needs to be remembered forever.
And you're lame if you're not a huge Stones fan.
@@fuchsiaswing8545It’s his opinion, relax.
@@spartyontop It's a bad opinion.
@@fuchsiaswing8545don’t have to be fully into a band to like some of their songs, it’s cool he’s good taste in music ✌🏼
And you're an a-hole. And I'm one of the biggest stone's fan. What is your problem... Wait. I don't give a flying F tbh. @@fuchsiaswing8545
Shows why Keith is such a superb lead guitarist--peerless--less is more--also jagger at his very best--wonderful stuff.
LOL .. I love keef but this song live belongs to Mick Taylor .. and his amazing playing is absent in this performance
@@bestbyte1 Mick Taylor doesn't play guitar on this track, it's ALL Keith!
Back when The Rolling Stones had one of the best guitarist,.. Mick Taylor!
One vote for the best live version on TH-cam. And no one can beat Bill Wyman's bass line. Seriously it's what makes this song so great.
I can’t hear any bass line. And neither can you.
@@stanmonzon5788 I can hear the bass line. But you can't.
Menacing is the right word for them bass
Live-ish.
For the Stones the late 60s were explosive, ahead of time with great rock! This Song is the Best!
***** Nice Weekend:)
My personal fave on Exile is Ventilator Blues...
unreal
No doubt Isabella Mick is the greatest Rock Showman and the songs he and Keith were writing were powerful. They were really at the height of their powers recording wise and studio wise too. I love this music it is TIMELESS Glenn Augustyn
jimmy miller was the best thing to ever happen to them in 68
It is difficult to pick just 1 favourite Rolling Stones song. They have so many flavours. However, this track is haunting, and gets turned up every time it comes on the radio.
RIP CHARLIE WATTS & THE ROLLING STONES, THE GREATEST ROCK & ROLL BAND EVER!!!!!
Fact
they stopped being a rock and roll band & became a corporation when they kicked out Brian, truth hurts, show some respect to Jones
You got that right🙌🏾💯🔥
Arguably but fuck it. Ur right
One of the greatest songs of all time.
This is the BEST version,...The Stones l love em Unique... Everthing they compose is Brilliant..Timeless
Version? This is pantomime, the only actually live part of the song is the vocals.
Yeah "Version" meaning without the Women Singers,Not a "LipSink" top of pops type
Sounds like me when I spank off
The GREATEST rock song EVER !
In the top ten best rock songs ever
The greatest song in the history of rock n roll music. Scorcese used it in at least 3 of his films.❤
Was just think about where it ranks. What's going on (Marvin Gaye) is number 1. Gimme Shelter is definitely top 10. No shame in that. Amazing, amazing, amazing song!
Masterpiece!!!❤
It’s cool to see Mick Taylor smile...
Theirs a spirit working within Mick in this performance , I think perhaps every beat at the tempo raises a clear touch of Devine inner being
Missing Merry Clayton. Still a good video. Love the way Charlie Watts is so laid back, he lets everybody do their drama and flash on stage. And he just sits there behind the drums with that little smile.
3:15 Taylor just realized,he joined the greatest band in the history of this planet °☆
And made them much much better at the same time!
Taylor had nothing to do with this song or the let it bleed album!
@@pedrolourenco1606 🤔
He’s so underrated and not nearly talked about enough!!
@@pedrolourenco1606 Mick Taylor never played this on the studio track, but tears it up on the many TH-cam concert videos that you see here on TH-cam
There will Never be another band even similar to the Stones. So unbelievably unique. Amazing.
Mick Taylor smiling. And Charlie Watts... thank you and rest in peace.
Hands down, my fav song of all time. Damn! born 25 years too late. Miss the time when such things were happening.
I was lucky to see these guys ..it's off the bucket list
What a great version. Thanks so much for posting.
Class this 😊😊. What a tune 😊. The 60s must have been amazing 😊.
I saw the Stones during that time and many times since. The band was the music, Mick was the show!❤️
En 69, j'avais 11 ans, Je suis tombé sur brown sugar. Il y avait une vieille gratte délabrée à la maison, j'ai commencé la dessus. Non stop. J'ai tous les disques et même de rares import. Vraiment un groupe fabuleux
One of the Stones greatest songs for sure!
this is awesome. this performance was a big stepping stone for this song.
Mick always brought the energy. Just completely owns the stage.
He wants ALL the attention. Great scene from Altamont with one of the Hell's Angels looking at him at waving his arms around like a drunkin chicken. "Hey EVERYBODY look at me"
51 years later and still the best rift ever by the best band ever 🎼🇬🇧👍😊
@ 3:21 Mick Taylor and Bill Wyman BOTH SMILING!!!!!
Charlie's T-shirt and his smirk at 1: 46 love it! Life-long Stones fan.
This is the best song ever written in a time when life was just a shot away in more ways than one.And I was lucky enought to have been there and made it through.
This is by far, the coolest intro in rock 🎸
Some songs always sound dated when you hear them. This one is just as relevant now as it was back then. Fookin' Mick, I love the raw sound of this.
Fantastic. I didn't think this could be done w/o the backing vocal but it is just as powerful.
This song along with All Along The Watchtower by Hendrix heralded the end of the Hippie Love movement. 😔. ❤️
wake up charlie....your're on tv
He looked bored because he's not playing for real.
That wasn't lipped sinked
Philip Matsikoudis
Mick sang live to a playback track.
drugged outta their wits
One of the appealing things about the stones was Charlie Watts, he looked like he never gave a f*&%....he was just there, and my little knowledge tells me he would have rather been playing on a Coltrane album. He and Ringo were the greatest rock drummers for the simplicity. Both had different styles, but both were freaking great at what they did and what they offered each song their bands handed to them.
A great friend said they played this song when they blacked out in a Herk, crossin the fence goin into Afghanistan, droppin in low level. Gives me chills now. Apparently it was Johns idea. Love that.
The Stones at their absolute peak, with an elegy for Sixties innocence that's as relevant as ever today.
Fantastic. Timeless
Best Rolling Stones Ever ❤
Thank you Charlie, thank you!
Mick looks so cool with that outfit just boppin and rocking to Keith and the boys. The Stones just the way they should be enjoyed...Live and Dangerous. Love It Glenn Augustyn
Great years to be alive! Nearing the end of the 70s is when I began my love relationship with ROCK at its finest! 💯
1969 and the song could easily pass for being brand new in 2021. The Stones are immortal.
No artist today could ever write a song like this
iv seen a ton of music videos of the greatest rock and roll band in the world but this one i love the most.
for me personally this is the absolute 100% essence of coolnes. its this mix of their badass aura, masculinity and this kind of inviolability. as if they were bragging about every single cell of their body. look at me I am the king. I love it so much. this is btw my very favorite version of the song
Mick Taylor's smile at 0:26 speaks volumes.
stoned to the bone
Omg how many great songs have the stones recorded ..still be played in 50 years time I bet !!!!!!!
Keith's guitar solo is fuckin' cool!!!
Hands down the greatest rock n roll song ever.
this beautiful masterpiece blows my mindd, never tired of listeninig this fucking great song
Best Stones line-up Jagger/Richards/Taylor/Wyman/Watts.....Taylor by far was the best Stones guitarist. His hair, his Les Paul, his general look and the sheer period of contribution to the Stones smokes Wood everytime and every day of the week.
He didn’t play on this song tho
Yes, Taylor joined the Stones few months later.
@@Bklyn93 Mick Taylor never played this on the studio track, but tears it up on the many TH-cam concert videos that you see here on TH-cam
They're all stoned , even dear Charlie bless his heart. Jagger has major head rush lol
We saw them in 1972 with this lineup.Mick Taylor was their best guitarist,IMHO.Great version,by the way!
That big smile on Mick Taylors face says it all. Stones!
Im 38... this was my dads era, he was 20 when this was released, triumph tiger 100... no helmet ... festivals ... living his life. Im very envious 😂
This music is so great, and the flood of memories that come back to me are so crisp...damn, it leaves me with a lump in my throat.
2:55 It took Mick Jugger about half a second to use some kind of very good stuff .
Triple Talkin Jive
Very observant of you. 👍
mick taylor has the sweetest smile!! such a rare treat :)
As good as it gets. This song chills the blood, freezes the mind.. gimme shelter .
Love the way Mick performs. He just let's go with no care. Love this video
We will never have music this good again. Thank God I was there (not for this performance obviously).
This was the best Stones line up......Mick Taylor was only 20 then.....Wow !
I like to close my eyes when I listen to this too Charley. . Miss you 😔
Gimme Shelter is just the song I put on top of my list of all the RNR songs I love. Stones at their best, best song ever...
When I was a kid I love the Beatles. Stones good. Then I saw them live. Mick is the greatest Rock and Roller.
I like to think of this as 'emulated American music'. It was so good only history will judge it harshly.
Greatest band 4 ever.
this is the best video for this song. this is real. my favorite song by them.
black sabbath, rolling stones, the Beatles, just to name a few but there are many more. The time when music still had real soul (not sure if you know what I mean) something that has become rather a rare occurance nowadays.
the doors ahh so many
rare? i've never seen it at all.
i dont agree. Take in count that i love all the bands you named, but i think that before the 60s there were a lot of musicians that gave us all of their heart as well.
Tom Rath Amen brother!!
Points
Awesome! If Merry Clayton had been there to lend her soaring vocals to this it would have been perfect!
her vocal performance provide an edge that gives the song some credibility and captures the ethos of those chaotic days. I understand she miscarried around the time she made the recording. That's hard.
Her voice was definitely the hook of that song, but---because of Mick Jagger's star power on full display here---I didn't miss it until AFTER the performance.
Marty Goddard
love this song no matter what version they play
Charlie and Keith...perfection!
I love when Charlie looks at the camera at 1:51 and is like "Oh yeah, we're definitely playing this live."
Except this is the album track. All guitars were Keith. No Jone or Taylor
Best thing the Stones ever did. It's Merry Clayton's voice that provides the chills in the spine though.
War, Children, It's just a shot away. Love, sister it's just a kiss away! RIP Charlie!
That introduction.!..the best ever Stones line up.
The stones at the top of their game!
Epitome of rock song right here!!
probably the best song of this century, it was all downhill from here
Fantastic. Iconic. Unforgettable.
Mick tears a hole in this performance, great job.
This song is a Masterpiece. ☝🏻🎤💋
Arguably...the Worlds Greatest Rock & Roll Band !....what else is there to say ?
yup ..they gotta be the oldest still on stage rockin the house
The Beatles.

So young, that's how I remembered them💖💖💖💖💖
Mick looks like an old catchers mitt, but he can still move like no other 78yo. Good genes. His dad lived to way into his 90s. Keith's looks? Let's not go there. But he too can still play with those old knobby fingers. Amazing.
Stones at their Peak💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💫
What a fucken devil driven insane genius guitar intro
After all my years as a stones fan i now realise this looks like the bbc were told by the establishment to show as little footage as possible of keith... they detested him and
were afraid of his attitude
I wondered why he was hardly shown here! I wish they showed him more
No kidding!!!! And his leads were hit in this track!!! Wtf?
You are correct
This takes me back to Saint Petersburg Florida.
British Rock Rules.
End of.
Bare in mind pretty much all of it was inspired by the American black blues artists of the 30' 40's and 50's, and also Buddy Holly and Bill Haley etc.
And yet there's nothing derivative about this haunting masterpiece is there?
Everyone is inspired by someone else. Including the Blues artists you mentioned. But the Stones created musical magic. Killer sounds that were uniquely, incomparably British.
