    A story about democracy:
A farmer asked his son before he died, "Pigs complain about poor feed, cows complain about heavy work, and chickens complain about dirty nests. What should you do?". The son said: "Change to good feed, buy more cows, clean up Chicken coop." The farmer shook his head and said. "No, don't do anything. Let them vote one from the pigs to take care of them, and let them think they control their own destiny”.
Father’s idea = American liberal democracy (electoral circus)
Son’s idea = Chinese democracy (get things done)

Hi Jerry, I have lived in the UK for 53 years. I have travelled extensively in the UK and Europe. I can tell you that European governments are getting more dictatorial all the time. It is hypocritical of them to say that they are democratic whilst criticising other countries. They pass all kinds of laws to control people, including peaceful protests. In the UK the British government, local councils and police provide extra security to Jewish establishments during the current conflict in Gaza, using taxpayers' money, but what security do they give to Palestinian establishments in the UK? Moreover, they allow pro-Israeli marches but try to stop and/or arrest Pro-Palestinian protesters. Anyway, recently the London Police arrested a high profile White man at a Pro-Palestinian demonstration. He did not do anything. He was just being there. But the police said that his presence might incite violent protest. What kind of law is this?
Turning to another matter. Some people think that the Hong Kong government and judges was being harsh to "pro-democracy activists" by trialling and sentencing them to jail. In the UK maybe one to two years ago several men were arrested and subsequently jailed ranging from one to more than three years for climbing up a bridge to protest, hence stopping all the traffic as police had decided to close the bridge crossing. They had not harmed anyone physically. Their lengths of sentences are harsher than those imposed by Hong Kong judges, especially if you take into consideration that some Hong Kong protesters in 2019 were often violent.

    • @jerrystakeonchina799
      @jerrystakeonchina799  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +38

Hi Richard, your first point is well made and valid, the second point appears to be driven by Western media - the people who "only climbed a bridge" were also being paid by Western governments to act against China - had they done that in the UK or USA, they would have received 15 yeara and the entire time period before the case was heard would have been in solitary confinement, as Julian Assnge is in the UK, Dan Duggan and Alexander Csergo in Australia are at the moment. Did the violent criminals get a lesser sentence, or have they not yet been brought to justice?
Look at what's happening to David McBride in Australia too, a man who spoke out against murder by Australian soldiers is likely to end up in prison.
HK has done what it needed to do to maintain its security, some people don't like it and some people are going to prison for a long time whether we agree or not is a moot point, they broke the law when they knew (or should have known) the consequences
As for those who have gotten away with it so far, they may have escaped immediate justice but if anyone is convicted of violent crime I'm sure they will be subject to the full force of the law

incorrect, in the west, corporations own all govts.
feudal lords, oligarchs and capitalists worked out long ago (in old Europe) that with immense wealth they can create fake entities called corporations, together they pool their wealth, the create lobbyists, and took over all govt agencies and push for privatization, same formula repeated in all capitalist countries.
It i s simply a system based on exploitations of ALL resources including humans, hence in the west, we are called "human resources" to be consumed just like any other resources. Capitalism is NOT here to promote humanity, it is here only for the bottom line/profit. Which is why there are always wars, looting of resources in Europe, all modern world wars starts in Europe, and when U$ corporation came into being in 1776, U$ became the largest terror state in the world....and ever since then U$ has waged wars all around the world. Technically they are not wars, they are simply legalized lootings.

This local power to squeal on the corrupt makes everyone scare of doing anything wrong. The local authorities can bring someone in to interrogate for 1 year and reporting every day to the police station if they find they are playing games. Things get done this way. I love that President Xi ironed out the corruption fast. Add onto that there are cameras and AI to bring a villain under arrest in 10 minutes. No one ever robs a bank these days. China's system of democracy under socialism of Chinese characteristics is based on the fundamental which is its people. In this system, the people tell the government what to do through government organized consultation activities & the government does its best to meet its people's needs & expectations in balanced strategies. When people criticize or complain about the government's works, the government listens & reacts to them to make things right. It is never autocracy versus democracy as libelled. Although there was free healthcare, free dental, free universities when I was growing up, they were all established by the Labour Party. My grandfather, who was a coal miner from his childhood to his 65th birthday had no such things for most of his lifetime, the democratic process gave no hope to workers unti the First World War and only then the workers were able to gain a foothold - in the last 20 years or so, everything my grandfather's generation fought for, has all eroded, the working conditions might be better in terms of health and safety but the job security, living wages, and social protections have all gone.

Not only is this shameful (they seem to have no sense of shame) but it is probably because the public has such low standards and expectations of their politicians these days that they know that they can get away with anything atrocious and not be held accountable.
I saw the decline in standards and expectations in the U.S. of their leaders starting from around the Bill Clinton era when the public was going around, making excuses for the President when he was caught having his sexual shenanigans in the Whitehouse with an intern. At any other earlier age, if a President of the United States is caught doing what he did, he'd have been castigated and even thrown out of office. However, the public was willing to forgive wily old Bill - and that was the start of the decline in morality.
Fast forward to this day and we can see what Donald trump has been allowed to get away with - and people have given him the excuse that "oh, he was just joking around", "he didn't mean what he said", "that was taken out of context", "his enemies has it in for him", and make up fables concerning his abilities in managing the country. I didn't think that a president needs to have others come to his defense if he has been impeccable in his term in office as the results would speak for themselves but there you are.
Low expectations, even lower standards and you have a mélange of generally no-hopers clamoring for the top job because it has been made so easy for them to occupy it without having to work hard at it for the betterment of the country.

One of the most oft-heard criticisms of the Chinese form of government here in Canada is that there's no transparency and that there's no public debate before a law is passed and enacted. In the West, public debates are the norm, ostensibly to inform the electorate and to prove those in office have nothing to hide, but really just to drive a wedge between different segments of society, hoping to get more voters on one's side. Thus was born the presidential debates in the US, which, for those who have seen them, are more spectacle than debate. China doesn't do public spectacles, China holds its debates in various offices and various agencies with different groups participating, all in private. Only when all the arguments have been heard and a consensus has been reached will the final proposal be tabled. That's not a lack of transparency, it's a show of maturity. Anyone who thinks public debates are better is welcome to watch the upcoming presidential debates in the US, but be warned, Donald Trump's performance can be shockingly immature, illiterate, and shameless. If you still think China should do that kind of thing afterward, I'd like to hear why.

Exactly what some of the Illuminare Founding Fathers of the United States said and even cautioned about democracy. Ben Franklin even doubted if democracy would work. Washington believed it to be an experiment when the American colonies broke away from England and did away with monarchy rule.
A government chosen by well educated (in all areas including politics) will result in a government for the people. A government chosen by narcissists of self-interested individuals will result in a narcissistic uninterested in working for the common, social good. After all, if you have a room full of clowns to select a leader, who do you think they will elect? Another clown of course!.

And I don't believe anyone has a right to vote if they never care/taken interest in politic or have any idea what is going on around the world and in their own country politically. Someone who watch or listen to news once awhile don't qualify having an understanding of the whole picture and the kind of policy the government rolls out. These people who have no idea of what is going on, randomly vote for the best salesman indirectly destroy their own country base on misinformation or misleading promises. Voting should reserve to those who involve themselves almost 24/7 in the politic landscape and those taken interest in politic who is well informed to qualify. Not some rando who think they will get a payout for voting certain candidate. Also the candidate must have demonstrated excellent leadership and care for their people to be elected, not someone having huge wealth or connections to run for presidency, which here I find the China system is far more superior than the western setup.

Compared with female college students, I am more willing to believe in those career bureaucrats who have worked for many years and have been promoted step by step, especially in the choice of many people who have the same experience as him, as well as government officials or party elders who have experienced many events in their political life.
Even if there may be vicious competition or political shady, at least this person has experienced work training and the test and supervision of many equally experienced, wise and powerful officials.

A good question well explained! Chinese people trust their government because it’s a
meritocracy and the leadership works for the people and promotes unity. Conversely the “democratic” partisan system in the west always leaves a country deeply divided, as in the US. In the UK we have an unelected head of state and unelected House of Lords. Candidates in “safe seats” become MPs without having to have any qualifications or experience. Once elected they toe the party line rather than speak for the constituents. So much for democracy!

Overseas, our authoritarian ways are much more violently practiced. But America is not the same at it is because of racial characteristics or anything else the right wing will point at. Looking at the actual, practical mechanism, it’s filled with corruption. It’s just that we changed the law so we can’t call it that anymore. China has been cracking down hard on corruption (even with capital punishment?), while we are seeing corruption infiltrate deeper into our society.

An obsession with a good governance system must contain democracy is a western doctrine that Chinese people never subscribe, even as an ethnic Chinese living in the west in the past 50 years. The bottom line is there is no one system that suit all.
A simple example is if 99% of the population are illiterate a dictatorship can be more effective than letting everyone have a voice. The other factor is the sharing of resources. Let say if the world has only Jerry in China and Rishi Sunak in UK then both can have the unlimited freedom without any consequence because there is no point to have more resource if one have the entire UK or China. However if UK has the same population of China its democracy will collapse whereas if China's population is reduced to just 65 million every Chinese will have much more freedom in sharing the natural resources and the country could be run with a lot less disciplines.
Thus a country must have a governance suitable for its people and it geographical constrains. The choice of governance cannot be dictated by the western preference. More importantly the governance system must be able to "change, improve, revise and update" to suit the people's need. Putting a label and rigidly constraining the government to change and improve just because it is not a democratic practise is a sure recipe for decline, as the direction most of western economies now heading.
Chinese are practical. They don't believe having the ballot box is the way for a better world but hard work, united goal, common consensus/opinion and a government that is always committed to improve the life of the population(as defined by the Chinese Communist Party's constitutions) are more appropriate. The other important difference between Chinese leadership and the west is in China only people with skill and experienced "already proven" in government office could advance to the leadership level. People on the street have respect for them and will support them together with the supreme power of the country "the People's Congress". Everyone in the People's Congress has to be the community leader, an authority in his/her field or recognised major industrialist. It is the People's Congress who elect and appoint the leader in China. The current Chinese government is actually the same that has been using for thousands of years. The difference is in place of an emperor it is the constitutions of the CPC which has been regularly revised too.
China is governed by a culture! Every traditionally educated Chinese is aspired to serve the country as the ultimate goal in life. The scientists who produce innovations, manufacturers who bring commercial success, the military people who achieve weapon break through, the simple folks who did poverty alleviation and the common people who spend years to plant trees in the desert all see themselves fulfilling their dream of making an important contribution to the community. This is no a propaganda but is genuinely the 5000+ years Chinese culture of life accomplishment and self fulfilllment. For thousands of years Chinese are not political but putting the community interest at the centre of everything.

I tried to raise the issue of racism since covid to every level of government.
During a recent federal election i attended a few town hall meetings for the first time to see my local member. My member is the treasurer and is only outrank by the prime minster.
I had to submit the questions to be asked beforehand. And i was never called up to be given the opporunity to ask those questions. After a few town hall visits, i also noticed the question that were ask by the audience were ALWAYS the same. At first i though that they just screen for favourable questions. Then a man in a suit managed to ask a few questiond regard Julian Assange and the safety of the vaccine. When he demanded the politican(he dodge the quest) answer his questions, he was escorted out with cheers and applause from the audience. I later met up with that guy and he told me the questioners were all hired actors as were the people who started to applause when he was escorted out. He then show me some vids on his phone where he looked like a hippie in another gathering and he pointed to some people in those vid and sure enough they were in the audience that day.

China is more Democratic than the US or UK. For a second, I thought this was a trick question 🤣.
    Anyway, Ponder Upon This :
The Western Society is divided into 2 economic extremes, the rich & the poor.
The US debt is going to hit USD34 trillion before 20th Dec 2023. Only the richest 20% of Americans still have excess pandemic savings.
The total household debts have reached USD17.29 trillion in Q3 2023, driven by Mortgage, Credit Card & Student Loan.
As at 2021, % of income tier as follows :
    Lower Income 29%
    Middle Income 50%
    Upper Income 21%
The middle income bracket has shrunk considerably in 2023 although official stats not available yet.
The US uses Median Average Income as method of calculation that is inaccurate. Actual situation is far worse. The Middle Income Earners are diminishing at an alarming rate and credit card loans are driven up. However, credit card loans will soon be a luxury as the cost of borrowing becomes too expensive.
    How's that for Western Democracy???
Western democracy is just an illusion. Democracy in the West is best defined as anything that suits the ruling elites narrative even if it means committing war crimes or genocide in other countries or twisted perception of gender or anything immoral. Westerners live under the delusion that they are living in a democracy simply because they get to vote, oblivious to the fact that whoever or whichever party they voted in, is just the left or right cheek of the same arsehole. Meanwhile nothing ever changes for the better, it just gets worse with each year. (Dont they ever learn 🙄).
There is no such thing as absolute freedom because that will create chaos, promote moral decadence and nurture self centredness.
Law is defined as Moral Code of Conduct, hence why there must be policies to guide and nurture the population into the right path towards a sustainable growth including personal & national development and create justifiable society.
Western leaders promote all the wrong things because they distract the masses from the real problems before their very eyes. They corrupt everything including Education. Individualism of all kinds are put on the pedestal because it destroys the fabric of societal harmony. The right to do something at the expense of the other is not freedom or a human right. It is called self-centred. One good example is the right to own a gun may be the anguish of another. Westerners end up confused and fight over the most mundane of things including gender identity.
The true democracy is one that serves the people; one that gives freedom to live one's life in safety, one that cultivates good moral values, one that guarantees good education for all, one that ensures everyone regardless of academic level or race can make ends meet, one that strives to make lives better, one that makes healthcare available & affordable, one that makes connectivity convenient, one that looks after the old, one that looks after the environment. All these can be seen and experienced in the current system of governance of the CPC, China. I can't say the same about Western Democracy.
The Westerners just cannot wrap their heads around the real concept of a true democracy, not all but a good majority of them because they suffer from CSDS from decades of indoctrination by their govt. In case you're wondering what CSDS is, it's Common Sense Deficiency Syndrome 😄 (consequence of Western Democracy).

      Additionally,
China has no problem with the governing system of other countries. It believes that is the choice of their people. Isn't that true blue international democracy?. The Western countries, with the US in the lead, are the true blue DICTATORSHIPS. They think they are entitled to tell and force other countries by what and how they should govern themselves. What could be more dictatorial than that?.

People in democracies are kept under the illusion that because they can freely talk even rubbish, they are free when by talking rot, they are wasting time and energy without getting anything done. China has rules against this type of taking rot. Constructive criticism is welcomed but not destructive ones.
We have seen how in our western democracies, opposition parties can always say "No" to any and all government proposed projects but seldom have we heard of workable solutions as alternatives to their negative "No's" to the government. The exact same thing occurs in pressure groups like the 'Greenies" - environmentalists - who would protest and say "No!" to the use of plastics but have no useable, workable alternatives (they say, let's use paper instead but have forgotten how they used to protest once upon a time against the use of "too many paper products" because of "deforestation", they say let's use cloth and natural fibers instead of plastics for hospital gowns without realizing that microbes find these easier places to hide in and fester as they once did before plastics came).
Free speech has consequences when it is not accompanied by logical, meaningful, common sense or else, one may as well open the doors to the lunatic asylums and give consideration to all the babblings that emanate from them. In fact, when one is to listen to what comes out from the mouths of some U.S. lawmakers like Marjorie Taylor-Greene, Josh Hawley and even Nikki Hayley to name a selected few, one may come to the conclusion that the asylum gates have indeed been opened.

Yep... 👍👍👍 When the US was founded, voting was based on one thing: It's all about Property Ownership. I couldn't vote under that system even though I am White & Male. My friend from HS could've voted for a time, having inherited his parents' house. But that was sold off awhile back. I like to remind those whingeing about Women not being allowed to vote that 1) I couldn't have voted either and 2) There was actually an "Anti-Suffragist" movement among women. One reason was a fear of Conscription. But also it seems if you and your husband ran a Pub in those days, the fear was that Women voting would've caused your business to be shut down. And actually, it did: It was called Prohibition 😀

Another aspect that is neglected in Western civics was the complete lack of democracy at the local level. Mayors were appointed by state officials until the Jacksonian democracy movement in the US and the Chartalist movement in the UK.
Also the complete lack of democracy outside of civics. If the Democrats believed in democracy, they would be pushing for codetermination like in Germany, or in China.

Democracy only works in a homogeneous society -
    1. Voters same education level. Understands big issues rather segments get caught in petty needs.
    2. Voters same economic level. No buyout of the poor with small gifts.
    3. Candidates equal access to Media.
    4. Candidates equal financial support to fund election.
    5. Each Constituents are of same size in voters.
    6. Voters and Candidates same race and religion.
In Islamic countries, non-Islamic candidates will never get voted in. Democracy just means the majority get to supress the minority by law.

Such equitable "ideal" conditions do not exist. That's why political ideologies are all human "idealism", and shouldn't be confused with actual political practice.
And, in ALL Western societies, it has become the "accepted" norm that politicians can (and actually need to) lie in order to get voted into office!
How many people are aware of the REALITY of present day's Western democracies, eg. in the USA: where democracy can and has already been legally hijacked (by extreme capitalism/Military-Industry-Media-Academia-Complex):

Jerry, excellent summary of the Chinese government's workings, again you have done your homework well and your knowledge of China is exemplary.
I might add that the US founding fathers thought democracy was bad for the US so the world 'democracy' is not found in the US Constitution nor the Declaration of Independence. In today's world, the US government is almost dysfunctional, with a major two party system locked in gridlock focused on destroying the other party and not focusing on building and growing the US economy and well being of its people. It seems the priority for the US government is for funding the military, with domestic priorities taking a second seat. What has evolved in the US is not democracy, per say, but a plutocracy of corporate interests and high wealth individuals who have the ability to sway our representatives to vote on their behalf. It is democracy of the rich. Democracy in the US is but a mask of what the US truly is, a country run by the oligarchs of America.
"Many will be shocked to learn that the word “democracy” was neither used in the Declaration of Independence nor in the Constitution. Indeed, the Founding Fathers were anxious and fearful of allowing any form of tyranny, including the tyranny of the majority." (Cato Institute)
"When legislators propose new laws, they don't always write the bills themselves. Corporations, interest groups or their lobbyists often write fill-in-the-blank (USA Today)
"It is fair to say that governments that consistently produce the outcomes their citizens desire are democratic, while those that consistently fail to produce the outcomes their citizens desire results are not......The Chinese Constitution--"employs it (the word democracy) thirty-eight times." (Godfrey Robert's book: Why China Leads the World)
    www.amazon.com/Why-China-Leads-World-Democracy/dp/1735821314
A good explanation of China's government structure and how it functions was given by Eric Li in a TED talk, 'A Tale of Two Political Systems.'

Yes, here in the U.S. many public officials can simply resign their positions and investigations into their actions stop.
I once worked (reluctantly) for an important state legislator, whose party later maneuvered him to lose his seat (after I left). He was elected a county clerk, a position that here in Tennessee can easily become a lifetime appointment as they always get reelected. However, he started pocketing some of the fees, to the extent that criminal investigations were begun. He was allowed to simply resign, the investigation stopped by law, AND he got to keep the money.

It takes some time to realise that what we've been taught is not the reality we thing it is. Americans don't have free speech at all, they have controlled parameters on how the speech can be used - if they had free speech, why would RT be banned? Why would someone like me be suppressed by social media? Why would the FBI ask Facebook and Twitter to suppress people they thought might incite revolution? And we know they did exactly that - that isn't free speech at all, that's the complete opposite of it
There is a spectrum, if we stay inside of it, we are allowed to say what we want, if we stray outside of it, we are prosecuted - look at the Jan 6th protestors, hundreds have been prosecuted, thousands have been interviewed and all because they felt they had a genuine grievance and wanted to speak about it - their words were deplatformed or ignored by the elected representatives so they did the only thing they thought was right - they used the second amendment to arm themselves against their government. Suddenly that Amendment needs to be looked at to see if it not a "permission" to usurp the government.

What's different about China is that the elected ARE from the common people but the Administration is managed by bureaucrats, in the same way the US or Australia is - imagine the Parliament not being the ultimate decision maker but the civil service, with years of tradition, culture and experience, being guided by them. The common people say, this is what we want, the government says, ok, we'll deliver that for you

@@jerrystakeonchina799The difference in China is that before an official is eligible to be a presidential candidate, he must have served as a top official at the county, municipal and provincial levels of government, and his provincial governor's resume must be in an economically developed and important province. Generally speaking, it takes at least 20 years to complete such a triple jump, even if it is promoted by rocket. After that, he must also have the resume of a member of the Central Committee for at least one term, which is equivalent to a vice president and a deputy prime minister with clear responsibilities.
Even Xi , who has a deep background and strong connections, has this complete resume.
Thirty years of accumulated experience have enabled them to know how to maintain and manage this huge country correctly, to understand clearly the problems and operational mechanisms faced by local governments at all levels, and to make more mature and reliable decisions in the face of tremendous pressures and challenges.

The CCP's manisfesto is: "at the service of the people" (为人民服务), it is akin to a government of the people, by the people and for the people. However, the Chinese system is still not perfect. A way too expensive healthcare system.
Poverty is on the rise over there yet again unfortunately.
The sad truth is that the Divided States of America is collapsing not China China is doing just great maybe even better than that?😊
Other than that a great video keep up the great work Jerry👍
    And greetings from the Netherlands🇳🇱

Thank you so much Didier, I see your country just voted an interesting character into the PM's job, it's not a surprise that Europe, in several countries is going the way of the far right - it's a social experiment I think that will try left and right because central politics isn't working to well for all the reasons you've listed above. Italy, Poland, Hungary and others are opting for a different system and the EU doesn't like it, neither does the USA - times are definitely changing

China is the 54th most prosperous with 5.8 million slaves, 1.3 million more homeless than US, a 21% youth unemployment rate. A 144 th rated healthcare system with appalling doctors per citizen ratio and awful cancer rate survival , and nowhere near the same medical innovation as US. Awful holidays off work like US. Awful life expectancy like US.
Mass stabbings, endless child kidnapping. And most homes in rural China are worse than the huts Americans have in there gardens.

Jerry, arguing about which form of democracy is the best is like arguing whether eating with fork and spoon, chopstick or with your fingers like my Indian friends is the best.

To a point yes - but my point is not that China's democracy is better, it's that it's better for China - and I agree with you, chopsticks are definitely better for eating noodles, I can't manage them with a fork anymore!

How can you be a dictator and be democracy at same time? Say what you want.about democracy..but under communist regime..things like cultural revolution and tianmen square incident was possible.
There's so many well documented accounts by now of people getting silenced and disappear for having a different view of the government....everyone in china literally knows if u talk about taboo topics on wchat, you risk getting a knock on the door at night or a trip to the police station....you seem to ignore all of that?
During covid...the government can do what they wish and you have zero say...the whole world has seen footage of metal gates being welded shut preventing people from leaving apartments causing deaths due to no fire exit and pet dogs killed thinking covid can spread...all of these documented ...none of this happens in other countries...your video is bias af

Good title. More than often other vloggers try to avoid conflicts and use sarcastic titles. Much better to use direct statements like this.

Thanks Michael, I do try to not use clickbait - it might account for why my videos on China get 10-20k and some of the others gt a million, but I prefer to maintain my integrity on this one

Direct statements are bigger clickbaits-China has more rights than the US; Chinese are freer than Americans; Chinese are richer than Americans; Chinese are happier than Americans; Chinese are lovelier than Americans; Chinese food tastes much better than American.

I studied the American Revolution period, and based on the Founding Fathers’ general ideas, you are correct Jerry! Even some “Anti-Federalists” promoted a theory of consultation at the local level, which is what China does in practice. In practice, China meets the theories even of the American Revolution, as far as I’ve seen, better than the US: life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, and rights of property.
China doesn’t let the capitalists dictate the policy, unlike the whole West, nor do they let imperialists dictate the policy, unlike the whole West, nor does China let colonial-minded people dictate policy, unlike the whole West, and nor does China let bigots dictate policy, unlike in the whole West. Great video, and perspective you shared.

Thank you - knowing you studied is a good validation for what I've been trying to tell Americans, it's not that all Americans are wrong, it's that they are misinformed - they think they are right and China is some kind of authoritarian nightmare - it most certainly isn't
