The last coal train had DEEX cars, that's Detroit Edison. Usually CSX will run the locomotives around the train before taking the connector track to CN. The train will then head East to Port Huron, where it will take CSX tracks to the Belle River plant south of St. Clair. Coal trains run when freighters are unavailable. That plant is scheduled to close next spring. For all we know, you might have saw the last coal train for that plant.
Thank you for that incredible information!! I was curious where that train was going since the BNSF drag just came from Essexville. I was excited to see DEEX hoppers again-it has been a long time since they came through Lansing regularly. This heat wave might mean we see a few more of those CSX trains to Belle River before it closes.
@Mark's Station The Belle River power plant isn't closing next year. There's a second, smaller plant near Belle River. That's the one that's closing. Also, the coal trains to St. Clair carry eastern coal, which is used a lot less than western coal, which is what the freighters carry.
@@blackshadow3132 How do you know that? The town hall dte had at Marine City high school talked about the entire complex being replaced by that new gas plant.
Todd. I hope you read this. Your documentation of the old Michigan Central Mackinaw Division is superb. I grew up with the Timberliner and B-Liner in Roscommon. This entire exciting line on the Lake State Railroad is noteworthy and needs your fine eye to document what was significant to our Michigan history. I remember it all. From GP-7s to Hudson's on the Timberliner and the hill from West Branch to St. Helen. Keep up your great work. You're on to our Michigan rail glory days. I really hope you care.
Many thanks, Mark! LSRC is definitely an outfit I’d like to learn more about their operations and film them a lot more. Plus, c’mon man, that paint scheme is dope!!
Thank you!! Now that they’re getting some standard operations down since they picked up the southern portion from CSX, I’ll likely film them more. I really want to catch one of those SD50’s in LSRC paint leading. Also, I am currently working on another Lake State production, so stay tuned.
That sounds interesting. I know nothing about them. Are they now owned by LSRC? Please share any info you can as I always enjoy learning more about our wonderful Michigan railroads.
From what I've heard part of the flint sub take over included usage of csx power I'm assuming the BNSF power either belongs to csx or is part of a power swap commonly done by class 1s but just guessing on that

Great video. I enjoy LSR videos as they have a great paint scheme. Please do more LSR videos in the future.
Thank you!
LSRC’s scheme is my favorite since the warbonnet. I already have another video of this RR in the works.
I love the Lake States Color scheme!!! Those SD40-2’s Rocks❤️
Awesome video Todd! Nice to see a break from one railroad for awhile

Thanks for checking it out, James!!
Great video! I'm heading to the Holly Michigan area tomorrow to hopefully get a couple shots past the searchlight signals.
Thanks!!
Best of luck tomorrow shooting the searchlights.
The former BNSF units have been sitting at the head of a string of coal hoppers behind Panera on Novi Rd for a couple days now.

Cool
That rocks! Sounds like horsepower!!
It’s a shame that someone’s drone photobombed your shots… lol
When technology nuts!😂
LOL I didn’t even notice your drone until I watched it on my tv. It’s a pretty cool Easter Egg, in my opinion.
