Optiplexes regularly come with 240w PSU, and there is a 280w version. With the 240w you can install a Core 2 Quad, max the ram and install a cheap 1gb low profile GPU without issues. I believe that if you disconnect the optical drive, change the HDD for a laptop HDD or, better yet, an SSD, you would have a bit more overhead in the wattage department
I have a Dell OptiPlex 780, and this will not work! Just the physical layout of my computer makes it impossible, and I don't know how to explain that in words. I don't know what to do going forward. I feel like I've wasted time, effort and money trying to change something that I can't, and I hate myself for it. None of your advice is useful for me, I'm sorry, but it isn't. 780 optiplex accepts up to Core 2 Quad Q9650 as I recall. I am waiting for a Q9400
Intel Q9650 is a nice upgrade.
