    This game is for sure a hidden gem of the arcades(probably home as well), as I rarely saw it out in the wild, but when I did, I always tried to drop some quarters on it. I'm not sure how well it ever did in the home, but I will assume not to well, as this was a game designed for the unique controls of the coin-op, and without the rifle, it would never be the same. Thanks for showing some love to this title, as some of these ports I never even knew about.

    7:23 Yes, man, I can believe it! Every single franchise in the history of gaming got seemingly ported to the GBA whether it made sense or not to do so! Cool to see a BotP episode that's 6th gen only, it doesn't happen very often. As the Silent Scope Collection was never playable on the 360 via backward compatibility, I understand you finally got an OG Xbox, or is it emulation on PC? If so, it looks legit to me.

      It does seem that every games was concidered porting to the GBA. Even arcade games like Crazy Taxi ended up in it.
      The Xbox footage you are seeing here is taken from a real Xbox. Xbox emulation doesn't run this game. It reaches the game select screen then complains that the disc is dirty 😅

      The ports are not light gun enabled because that would have been unbelievably complicated to work with the magnifier cursor representing your rifle scope. The Dreamcast compatible light guns only interact with the screen for a split second after pulling the trigger, but for the magnifier cursor to actively follow your aim would require constant interaction, which would make the game unplayable. You would need a Wiimote style gun that coordinates with external motion sensors to make that work, and that tech didn't exist for home consoles till after the Dreamcast had been discontinued.

    I've always meant to play this again, pretty sure I tried it only once in an arcade but enough to experience the screen scope setup. Last time I looked I was chasing the Xbox port because it had a gun peripheral, yeah kind of goofy Mountain Dew green thing heh.😉
    I forgot about the GBA one, yeah it's not very ambitious with the graphics as I'm sure it could do either polygon environments or polygon people based other 3D games I've seen on the platform. At least they had the sense to not use an overly lossy image format, hate to be zooming in on JPEG artifacts.😄
    Java version sort of fulfills what I speculated on for the GBA port. Polygonal environments definitely keeps the active 3D camera system of the original game intact.

    Silent Scope is my favourite Light Gun game. I bought it for my Dreamcast back in the day. There was a Silent Scope arcade cabinet in the Airport where I worked. The gun was massive LoL. I enjoy the long distance sniper assassin aspect of the game. It's similar to playing darts. I never completed the arcade mode I got to the last level boss which I think was a butch woman in a room full of crates. She was too tough for me. I felt like the hit detection was a bit dodgy. Perfect head shots that wouldn't register especially in boss battles. Today I play on the Xbox version which is great because you get all 3 games on one disc. But I feel that the scope cursor is a bit too sensitive to control compared to the Dreamcast version even after adjustment in the control menu. The scope cursor either moves a bit too fast or a bit too slow. I never had that issue on the Dreamcast. But with practice I can just about live with it. We are missing these gallery arcade shooters in today's gaming. You need proper skills to be good at games like Silent Scope.

    Another great BotP. I never did try the arcade Silent Scope though I know the mall arcade had a cab (maybe it was SS2? One of those). I only ever played the Dreamcast version, and that I borrowed a bit later in 01 from a buddy in just because he had high praise for it. Well...I only found it to be okay. We had both played (and were playing) stuff like Rainbow Six and Counter-Strike, so I guess between that and my general lightgun-game love, he thought I'd enjoy it a lot. It wasn't bad, but I just couldn't really get into it. I knew it was on PS2, but never realized it was on XBox or GBA. That week or so on the Dreamcast is the only time I've played any of the series, and it really didn't make me want to go out and try more. Again, it's not a bad game, but if I'm going to play a lightgun game,, I'd much rather play a House of the Dead, Time Crisis, or Virtua Cop game or even Lethal Enforcers II or Revolution X. Don't know why this game didn't click for me.

    This is probably the last light gun game I played during the true arcade days, which were running on fumes at this point. As for the ports, a light gun game that doesn't use guns just sounds wrong, however I completely understand building a sniper rifle for the ports would have caused all kinds of issues, never mind just the money one, the xbox port might be worth picking up since it has the option of a light gun, but they're all great ports by the look and sounds of it, but yeah nothing will match the arcade with the actual sniper gun. Also the GBA must have had a quota to get every port no matter what lol.

      @RetroCore  ปีที่แล้ว

      And airforce Delta can't even run in VGA mode which is sad. I did really like that game as well. Especially flying through the enemy base. That was pretty cool.
      I did enjoy the Pop'n Music games too. There are 3 on the Dreamcast. DDR was also on the Dreamcast, 2 of them. Finally there was the anime Blade game. That was also enjoyable but yeah, Konami never really gave their best on the Dreamcast. Their biggest and probably best game, Castlevania was canceled.

    • @WeskerSega
      @WeskerSega ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RetroCore There's some good news with the VGA in Airforce Delta/Blue Skies. Dreamcast-Talk user TapamN has been doing VGA hacks/patches for games which didn't support VGA, among them is this game, and there's also others like Bangai-O, Psychic Force 2012, Seven Mansions and the first two KOF games.
      Regarding the games you mention, I don't mean they aren't good games, but they are mostly bemanis and the interactive animes which truly have some appeal. In that same lot you could introduce some sports games like the International Track & Field and the Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakkuu game. But they are not high profile games, unlike Airforce Delta/Deadly Skies and Silent Scope, which really are the only ones which make great use of the system, both of them by the same developer (Konami Yokohama, it seems this studio was the only which really bothered to try something on the Dreamcast).
      There's people who put Konami efforts for the Sega Saturn in question because of their not so desirable quality development in games like Crypt Killer, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Genso Suikoden and Vandal Hearts, but hey, not only you have all those games on the Sega Saturn (except for maybe Crypt Killer, the others are AAA titles), but also titles like Snatcher, Policenauts, all the shoot' em up games/collections which are massive, some other sports games (more or less the same as the Dreamcast ones, there's two Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakku games, another realistic baseball game, and you don't have Track & Field or NBA game like in the Dreamcast but there's a football game) and even the Tokimeki Memorial games if those are you thing. Even with the shortcomings, Konami on the Sega Saturn simply trounces Konami on the Dreamcast, both in quantity and quality.

    you know there was a rumor that in a certain window you could zoom in and see a nude pic in this game ........ and the "hurry up and calm down" drove me crazy the few times I played this

      I think the nud picture is probably an urban legend.

    I remember playing this when I was a kid, it was very cool to play but the mounted rifle was also a bit heavy to move. So I was pretty much horrible at the game.

      It's not that bad as long as you can memorise which button remove the scope and slow it down.

    I'm amused by the Java version enemies just doing squats during a firefight. Also, can't but wonder, if a Wii U port might have been, interesting. With the secondary screen as the scope, maybe even some silly plastic rifle butt to mount it on....

    • @RetroCore
      @RetroCore  ปีที่แล้ว

      A Wii U port would have worked, kind of.

    They really need to calm down with those "calm downs!" I think I play this game at the arcades before........it was hella fun! Who knew being a peeping tom actually heals you, Konami with the knowledge!

    Im like the sound driver on the GBA version! Its fells well done with a clean stereo sound too. Its make sense as this game dont banger the GBA CPU hardware very much, nor its required to do. This is just like the Pinball Dreams.

    • @RetroCore
      @RetroCore  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would have liked to have seen some 3D in the GBA version. It could have easily done what the mobile phone version did.

    • @spacefractal
      @spacefractal ปีที่แล้ว

      They might have tried it, but opted to using 2d only. No idea, howover but, im do still like the sound driver used.

    Doesn't the Dreamcast and the PS2 both have mouse support? Also you can use the vmu as your scope.

    • @RetroCore
      @RetroCore  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know the Japanese DC case doesn't mention mouse support but that doesn't mean it's not supported. So yeah, it may do.

    Sad to see that Dreamcast & PS2 ports didn't have that lightgun support, otherwise the gameplay would be easier. Also it would have been nicer if this game were to be released on Wii (at least on Virtual Console) since Wii Remote is perfect for this kind of game

    Even with all of its quirks, I still prefer this kind of Sniper game over more modern ones due to having a more controlled, cartoonish violence depiction instead of more realistic, over-the-top, gruesome action. As for why there was never a sniper rifle nor gun-shaped controllers, there's another explanation: after the 9/11 events, Sega and most of their associate videogame companies took the informed decision of not to build nor market gun-shaped toys nor accessories in honor of the victims and their families. It was a time to mourn the deceased, after all and any reminder of those dark events was politically incorrect, something that Sega didn't want.

      You must not have watched that segment because it's slow, choppy, and the audio has massive stuttering; controls are not the issue.

    • @RetroCore
      @RetroCore  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, you're correct.
      it's the Arcade emulation that's at fault, not because of mouse controls. This game in arcade form just simply isn't emulated well.
