In this video, CBT Nuggets trainer Knox Hutchinson covers designing a basic subnet in IPv4.
Once you've gotten a theoretical understanding of IPv4 and the concept of subnetting, it's important to take that knowledge one step further and plan out what it would look like to build a real-world IPv4 subnet. Follow along as Knox covers the limitations that define implementing subnets.

very well explained, im studying for network+ and this helped a lot understanding how this works in real world
When assigning statics to servers / IoT I like to use even numbers for live and odd for Dev/Replacement, allows you slot a device in next to the old/one to support.
Interesting look
thankyou!! studying for the network+, made it so easy to understand!!
Great explanation a real eye opener, never thought of all the info that a position of an octet could be used for.
Great content, I was totally missing these points. Thanks 👍
CBT Nuggets, best as always!! thank you
Great content! Keep it coming :)
Thank you for learning with us!
oh my god this was an amazing explanation SUBSCRIBED
You're the man. Thank you!
Perfect thanks
Excellent but I have few questions that how I will use these vlan on DHCP, will single NIC support VLAN and how these VLAN communicate each other using single NIC. How to define Evey IP address assign as per Hardware Address
Hi Muhammad, when using DHCP on a VLAN, you'll want to approach it as you would a normal subnet. You will want to set the DHCP range, the default gateway, and the DNS servers.
An interface assigned to a VLAN will send traffic only on the specified VLAN. The client that is on the receiving end will need to be either DHCP assigned or within the network range for the VLAN.
If you are trying to assign IP addresses by hardware, you would probably want to have a domain run DHCP service, so the scope and manageability of hardware addresses are easier to manage. It can be challenging to maintain that level on a router or switch. The connection from the server to the switch would need to be a trunk or a tagged port. Then allow the VLANs for the server to have access to the given IP ranges. The DHCP server will be able to hand out the IP addresses for the associated VLANs.
Hope that helps!
Thanks @@cbtnuggets. can you please add a video for this?
Beautiful video!! Exactly what I was looking for!..Thank you!!
Isn't it 254 usable hosts in a class c subnet
It is indeed a usable address. The guy just said he might use this address for Subnet Gateway. this is the reason why he excluded it from DHCP lease.
@ I had missed him saying that. Thanks for the correction.
GREAT
Awesome tutorial! Thanks a lot!! Cheers!!!
do you have CIDR recommendations on AWS?
Thank u
