All he has to do is drag it to the workshop, hit the button and it will be 100% perfect again and if he's really flush a perfect fresh coat of paint as well.
As a farm kid in his 50’s there is nothing better then a 4440. Easy to work on, good runners, and that power shift is no big deal. You’ll need to get or build some stands to split the tractor. I’m betting it’s probably low on hydraulic oil and needs filters if it’s been sitting that long. That line leaking under the hood is more then likely a steel line that’s rubbed on the hood. Braze it and good to go. She sounds good! If it’s not steering the brake pads came apart and plugged the screen in the front pump under the radiator. Pull the axel housings and pull brake pistons out and get them redone. That screen is a bitch to get out because of the screen.
what a absolute BABE i helped a mate restor a 4440 about 20 years ago was in classic tractor amazing tractor and a very rewarding restoration project cant wait to watchyou bring her back to her former glory
At least you have a use for it ; I bought mine repaired it , did the four hours actual loader work .Now it's my powered wheel barrow , and trash bin hauler. At 71 years old I can have one last toy.
"That want's going straight in the scrap bin" A thought that crossed every British Army Combat Engineers mind, when feeding cardboard Bar mines into a Bar Mine Layer, crossing Soltau training area in March, having been on the training area for weeks, stinking, hungry and freezing cold - Wise words that echo down the decades!
Pfftttt the barmine layer was a great bit of kit, especially when your other options are hand dig or go back to using Mk 7's with "the beast", I towed the barminelayer and carried the ranger on my 432 in Hameln
What the crap are you on about, This is a TRACTOR video. What has that to do with British Army Engineers. If thats the attitude of A state organisation's way of spending Tax Payers Money, then shame on them. Scrap Bin??? They are a Very good tractor, well worth doing up. Can't sneeze at a 130hp Tractor. It looks in good condition, Do the gearbox, steering and brakes, A good service, No Rush and a Tractor for another 30 years.
Two things I noticed about Mr Hewe's videos. 1. It rains. A lot it seems. We here in Australia don't get rain. We get FLOOD or DROUGHT. And 2. You guys get spiderwebs but without a Huntsman spider the size of a dinner plate that wants to launch itself into a person's face. Well done. I may have to move.
Biggest spider we have is the giant house spider its a baby compared to what you have there and not harmful to humans. They just give you a jump when they run across the floor in your house around autumn time.
Never saddle a dead horse! Increase your winch cable strength by fitting your clamps the right way round. Enjoying the videos amazing what you can fix.
The JD 4440 were a great tractors, the 466 cu.in.(7.6 L) engines were a game changer. If properly maintained and not abuse they 4440s can last almost forever, the engines were good for 10K+ hrs. If this tractor was sitting in the Midwest (US) it would have been found and recued years ago. The powershift trans is tough, and we'll worth rebuilding by an experienced and trained mechanic.
Very much worth it, all the glass is in place, not even a crack. Wax and buff should do wonders for the color, i would take it in a heartbeat, put work into it every now and then, one day you will have yourself a good mechine. Best of luck, keep us posted.🇺🇸
Someone tell your mate I n the overalls if that chain snaps next to him, at head height, it’s not going to be an open coffin funeral 😭 Love the rescue videos mate
F'ckin hell bud the last time I saw one of them was when I was with 24 Fd Sqn rent-a-troop teaching the RE Young Officers course , 10 ton Knocker loaded with practice concrete Mk 7's towed by a D6 Cat towing the beast 🤣
Another great video! The tractor looks to good to just rot so good luck getting it going. You guys always make it a laugh. Out of interest what were the other tractors. One looked like a Renault but not certain!
Love these videos, as well as the military ones. Can't help wondering if things would have gone easier if Ted had been there to supervise. Enjoy Joe with his scathing encouragement "its sh~t tractor, helps motivate the team! However he always gets stuck in and gets mucky too.
Adam couldn't you hear me shouting to get away from that rope, pulling the excavator into the shed? Anyway you survived! 🙂 It started! You never know what's missing when something's been parked up on a farm for a while, going by the forrestation growing around it. An interesting project. Do you know how much it's worth before you go spending an unlimited amount on labour and parts? Good luck, great video. 👍😃🤔
Defo have to agree, one of these lot are gunna get badly hurt one day,as much as they are funny etc and I'll watch every video, please boys be safe and use your heads when pulling with chains etc!!!!
That rope was a chain, but yeah really bad idea to stand right next to it (even with the sheet over it to help stop 'rebound') whilst it was under strain.
Dam, the 4440 was probably the best tractor JD ever made. Some would say its the only good tractor they ever made. Had wet brakes, wet clutch......good on fuel, quiet. Decent engine.
i see them play a few years back in London unfortunately accompanied by dirty dick howling , apart from him they were amazing @@lordcaptainvonthrust3rd
Always amazing how much good equipment is left in fields to decay.....by farmers. One man's rubbish is another's gold. Another successful rescue by National Rescue.
You really got your work cut out for you with all the projects you have going on at the moment. Your antics are worth subscribing for alone. I wonder where that tractor was built at?
These videos are just great every time, simple stuff but great none the less. Question though, who would design a tractor where the air intake is right next to the exhaust?
It was done that way for visiblity from the operator seat. When looking over the hood, the air stack, exhaust stack, and door frame are all in line with one another
Although your fuel system needs a good going over (tank, lines, filters etc) could your air in the fuel system be being "drawn in" from the pipes on the T pieces for the injector fuel return pipes as we had this fault on a JD that we did, also if you steering leak is from a Danfoss unit at the bottom of the steering column we've got a few of them units we've salvaged from machinery.
Nearly 50 years ago on friends farm they had old abandoned tractor.wheels all seezed up hadnt been touched for yearsThey towed it with another tractor freed the brakes then bumped it . Next time I went there my friend 12/13year old driving it as his. They told me then basic will always start.I was amazed then like I am now with your vehicles
Please enjoy you guys on this John Deere but it is great that the engine has started and generally speaking it is relatively good condition 👍! Looking forward to see more work on this lovely trac
You have that sweet flatbed with a crane that's got all the kit, and no wireless remote for the freaking winch or the Boom crane, or the freaking ramp, or outriggers that's way WEAK! It's still a bad ass flat bed though... or is it a lorry lmao it's a dang truck just say truck...lol new subscriber I'm diggin the show.
The repairs sometimes cost more than someone can afford, it happens a lot in the country/rural areas. It's cheaper to buy a different used tractor or sell the broken one to a junk collector so you can afford a different tractor. The repairs this tractor needs is not really something any farmer can do in their backyard, although it's not so complex you need an expert, but it def helps.
This is like the non farming side of farming simulator, the logistic side. Really cool to see it all for real and how unrealistic the game is lol.
🤣🤣
All he has to do is drag it to the workshop, hit the button and it will be 100% perfect again and if he's really flush a perfect fresh coat of paint as well.

That invisible spill kit works a treat.🤔
I grow up driving a 4440 JD! Loved that power shift!
Well worth saving mate, they're a good old tractor.
Shadows and Geoff Meon - good sound track!
That song Apache from The Shadows is a real classic.

Hello mr.Hewes
Very nice channel.
We like your work.
Bravo
Nick Young tractor parts should have everything you need, new or secondhand or possibly Burden Bros in sheppy Kent.
I love this channel more than I do the French, love getting a notification that mr.hewes has uploaded a new video, keep the videos coming,❤ from 🇮🇪
"I love this channel more than I do the French" Pretty sure that's an insult 😂
Not the first ring you had around yer face! heh 🤣
Your enterprise is pure joy. Us ex farmers know. Love my adjustables. Love from west Dorset near France.
The achievements made by these guys are remarkable. I love it ! X
My god father and ex Shadow member Jet Harris was the best at playing Apache on his guitar. Brings back very fond memories...👍🙂👍
A great sound track by England's own "the Shadows" ,and my favorite cut by them Apache
Looks to me like in this video, the dog had more intelligence than the guys put together.
Why Ted the dog is the chief engineer

@3.20 So thats where my barmine layer went after the towing pin came out of the 432 🤣
At least you didn’t lose the mk7 mine train as well, how many nails were lost on that Feckin thing, 2 for me!

That wasn’t the “Case” I see what you did there. Great video as usual! Thanks for sharing.
4:02, I was waiting for Lord Lucan to fall out of the cab.
Mucker has done a few JD's mind you he's probably wedged down in that Skidsteer !
What you need is the Australian version of Easy Start. It’s called (genuinely) Start ya bastard
Random things to find on a farm yard number 482: A barmine layer!?!?
Totally bizarre Mr Hewes, but certainly not scrap.
Another great video!

love that you are really getting your moneys worth buying that flatbed.
Apparently these guys have never heard about bleeding out the air at the injectors
What injectors? The head was missing. 🤨
It's really good that the pullstop actually works ! ❤😉🙃😎 NZ
Tusen takk for god underholdning. 👍🤗👍🇸🇯
Joe a suggestion - maybe change your name to Meter? Or perhaps when you are a bit broken down with life? Love the content keep it coming.

My old boss had 2 of these shaped ones, a 3050 and a 3350 both 6 cylinder an 4 wheel drive, great tractors at that time in the 90s
Love to see more on the Harvard in the barn 👀

John Deere 4440, i hope there able to bring it back to life, the 4440 is a popular tractor.
Best tractor ever built. I'd kill to have that thing

Gotta say, didn't realise Samsung made excavators 😂

Its a shame to see an iconic john deere tractor lert outside like that
That's a nice, 4000 series 440 BHP John Deere you have there Joe, should pull the baler with ease 🤣🤣
What a tractor why would some one leave that to rot

Another video of mechanical mastery lol, and I loved Apache by the Shadows at the start
They did a good job at trying to hide that tractor with brambles,😂😂😂

Why would someone leave a superb 4440 like that to rot?? Below the grime it looks in great condition, tyres with a lot of thread

Nice restoration project
Looks like that oil leaking was from the steering lines. Had that issue with a 4050 before. New lines fixed it for me!
40 and 50 Series keys are available on a well known Auction Site.
Thumbs up also for the video and using apache as "background noise" :)
