It's not the most accessible location on a hot Wednesday night in DC. They'd probably get a better crowd at one of their regular winter-season venues like NOVA. The goal is more likely the online audience.
I noticed that too. Another factor may be the home court issue, where people figure they can see the band any time because they perform frequently in the DC area. Compare that to when I saw them in Lancaster, PA when they were on tour last year and the place was sold out; thousands in attendance.
Excellent concert .. Blues Shade and piece of music from JP Sousa was absolutely beautiful and all the pieces was fantastic.. I love it.. thank you to you all ❤
On a summer evening many decades ago I was part of a large outdoor crowd listening to the Air Force Band in D.C. Attendance could have to do with inside vs outdoors in a major D.C. public space.

A lot of feather merchants there who don't know enough to stand to attention and place their hand over their heart for the national anthem. Maybe they should go elsewhere. Same guy in blue shirt with white beard sitting in front row doesn't know enough to stand when the Marine's Hymn is played. Obviously the music is a tribute to better people who died for his freedom.
It's a free country, and it may be the Marine Band but it's also a concert; one is free to decide how to conduct oneself as long as it doesn't disturb the proceedings.
I find it amazing that one of the best bands in the world gets a smaller crowd than my local community band for a summer concert.
