Thanks for this video. 1) it cleared up something, which for the life of me I don't understand, that being the box Rogers sent me is for a streaming service and has nothing to do with cable TV as I knew it from Shaw. NO ONE AT EITHER ROGERS OR SHAW EVER EXPLAINED THIS FACT. 2) For us dunces out here, is the sole purpose of the ethernet jack on the back of the Ignite box to allow a wired connection? As opposed to wireless. If I want to do this, a wired connection, I assume it does not matter which port in the back of the Shaw box I plug into? 3) I was not after a streaming service, just wanting to continue with cable (yeah, I know but it does work) so, as far as I can tell, this box is just something else to add to the clutter. Or am I really that slow? A PVR provided by Shaw, an ARRIS box for land line phone, a box similar to the Rogers Ignite TV box provided by Shaw and now this Ignite streaming service box. 4) I wonder which box it is that Rogers expects me to send back to them? Since, as far as I can tell, I need them all to be inter-connected to maintain all services I currently use.
I received this free with my Ignite Internet package. I have been using Apple TV+ for many years and prefer not to disconnect that for this device. Many thanks for the video information. My Roger's Ignite Streaming device will stay in the unopened cellophane-wrapped box.
I have one in the basement attached to a NON smart tv brand (Toshiba). We have the router and one of this in the living. Then there's another one in the bedroom. Looks like this serves as wireless connection to the router. Telus has a similar system, but the "boxes" are bigger. Same set up with different room connectivity when we used to be with Telus.
My summary is, ignite streaming itself doesn't provide any content or free access to streaming service like Netflix. It's just an alternative of Applt TV and the built-in system of a smart TV.
I'm grateful for the clarification in this video, especially re: Chromecast. My FIL needs a streamer so he can stop using the janky Android TV built into his otherwise excellent Sony TV. I bought him the Bell Streamer that was scattered across the country recently and is now all over FB Marketplace, but he's with Rogers and he's due for a major hardware upgrade (and a pricing downgrade) which will come with one of these Ignite boxes and I started wondering about redundancy. Which leads to another thing... It's amazing how cable companies are selling "simplicity" and "convenience" in the form of devices that obfuscate their actual functions so users are uncertain about what's tied to their ISP and what they could get any number of other ways if they took their business elsewhere. At least the Bell box is a capable 4k Chromecast w/ Google TV substitute. This Rogers Ignite box seems like the worst of both words: heavy branding and a UI made to push you to sign up for more services, plus an app selection so limited you'll still want another streaming device even if you sign up for everything on Rogers' menu.
I got this for free along with some other promotions, and was hoping I could stream my local content on it as well like with an Apple TV... it looks like that isn't the case. Oh well, it can be a backup streaming box I guess.. but with onboard smart TV apps on a newer TV that work fine and a firestick on the other, this will likely just collect dust along with our old cable box
So basically rogers iptv is costing about $80 when i can get a app that does the same thing for cheaper... But with that app would need someone to constantly update it for me. Hmmmmm
It’s terrible and I wish if they kept the boxes connected to tv cable than the wireless box which cannot work when there is a problem with internet speed our outage
Was forced to get rid of my Shaw PVR and external drive... to downgrade to their Ignite TV - it's such a terrible downbrade... you can't forward/rewind more than 15 minutes... the menu sucks - is cludgy, very slow and "skippy" when used... terrible operation... I have Cable and Internet bundled... and we use a couple streaming services... Going to look at what i can get for just the Internet, dump the Cable altogether because of the crappy Ignite...
Our old receiver was toast so we were forced into getting a new Ignite box. Not since the invention of television has there been a piece of junk like these. They have no indicator lights to inform that: !) The unit is on 2) There is a recording scheduled 3) There is a recording in progress And to add insult to injury ...the damm thing doesn't even have a clock!! We had to order one from Amazon. It is like every minute customers are in front of the TV, Rogers is rubbing their corporate arrogance in our faces. We hadn't thought about switching for some time, but as soon as their competition has a box that isn't,'t such an insult, we will.
So its pretty much a lil box that does the same thing my smart tv does ?
Thanks for this video.

I hate when the box asks me "Are you still awake" during a hockey game, its stupid. I'm watching hockey fools, of course I'm awake! lol

Totally fair. Like I basically said in my review, its nothing special. Apple TV is a superior streaming device in my opinion.
I have Google TV they sent me one of these not sure if I have any use for it lol
Is it a universal remote?
Can you even fast forward ur taped shows on here? I miss that option
YES. Not with ON DEMAND
Can I take it from one tv to another, in the winter we use one of them inside but in the summer can I take it for the summer room? Thanks

yes
Can you download app to it !! As it’s very minimal apps on board

Can you use it with a projector?
Rogers needs to develop an app available for the firestick like the bell fibe app. Until then, I won't consider switching to Rogers.
That would cost them billions of dollars in lost revenue if they did that.
Very informative. Thanks.
Agreed =)
But doesnt have the crave app
It does. Have to pay to subscribe.
You're not missing anything.

I agree, I'm always having problems with getting TV

That box is ass
No one get it because it’s legit a waste
Haha. For free though?
