When you contacted the police you should have told them youve just been offended, they would have sent out a team of coppers to sort him out.

So glad you two are OK. There are some mad drivers on the road. We were almost concertinaed by two lorries, it was only because of my quick instincts we weren't killed. I had to pull into the next service station for a coffee & breather as we were so shaken up by the traumatic experience. Looking forward to your Lake District video. Take care. xx

Some years back, when I was in my early 20s, we were travelling in a campervan, and a motorbike over took us at speed and kicked up at Stone, which hit our windscreen, causing it to mosiac. We couldn't see a thing and travelling at nearly 60 miles an hour. I'd never been so scared in my life. Thank fully we were able to slow down and pull in at the side of the road.
I can understand how you guys must have felt. I'm glad you're both safe x❤

What an experience. I'm glad you are ok. It really does shake you up. We were involved in a bad impact while in Wales. We had stopped in the narrow country lane, and he couldn't as going too fast . The claim ended in the Royal Court of Justice, and it was found not our fault. We duck taped the car, and our family were ok, so we carried on with the holiday. All ended well, and we even really enjoyed the day out in London for the court hearing lol 😊

Such a close call . Glad you’re both ok and safe . Similar thing happened to me and hubby . We were on our bikes going through chatsworth . As we approached the hump back bridge light on red we waited for about 1 min and as they changed to green was just about to set off when a car shot his lights at other side going that fast he left the bridge tarmac and as he came down with a bang his under belly pan or what ever it was smashed onto the floor and he carried on with his bits still on the road ! A few seconds later had we set off we would have both been hit and god knows what fatality would have been . So many careless drivers . Stage safe .

Glad you escaped injury. You can be the best driver but you will meet idiots on the road. Because he recovered his No. Plate it wasn't a stolen car, shame you didn't get the No.
Hey Claire caravans are best👍. Got motorhome friends they have height restriction trouble quite a few times.
Always remember Bob Earnshaw with friends going to visit at country park, think they tried 3 times to park but couldn't due to height barriers, so had to go back to the campsite.

We were travelling home from our Easter weekend break back in 2023, about two miles from home a car pulled out of a side road writing both our car and caravan off, luckily no injuries. The driver tried to claim it was my fault but luckily we had independent witnesses following behind, now have dash cam fitted.

We did a comparison a few years ago when we were thinking of buying a motorhome, not between a camper van and a caravan but between a camper van and using Chambres d’Hotes, French bed and breakfast places and our nice car. We go away for short breaks several times a year. I was concerned about the initial investment in the camping car but was surprised by how much more economical the car and accommodation choice was.

Hi Andy and Claire, so glad you’re both ok! We had an amazingly similar experience last year when approaching Shepton Mallet show ground in our Motorhome. When we were approximately 100mts from the entrance, a lorry approached us around a blind bend and we noticed its load of pipes falling from the lorry, one of the large (luckily) plastic pipes struck the front of our van, knocking the front bumper adrift but thankfully causing very little other damage! Again, just like you, the lorry failed to stop! It was a very frightening experience! Debbie and Brian. Xx

    • @DebbieCook-x3v
      @DebbieCook-x3v หลายเดือนก่อน

@ Hi again Andy and Claire, it was a very narrow twisty lane so it would have been dangerous for us to stop there, so after pulling into the entrance to the show grounds and stopping to inspect the damage, we walked back up the lane but there was no sign of him. He must have hastily reloaded the lorry and drove off. After a strong cup of coffee to settle the nerves, we were able to temporarily fix the bumper until we got home.🥰 Just like your experience, things could have been a lot worse, so we think all in all we had a lucky escape!😳

I used to be the Insurance assessor for Hertz and Enterprise. They are self-insured and that is why the is a high excess. They have their own repair contractors and If the repair cost go over excess they tend to move the car on or have fixed repair contract.
They have big buying powers and also they are not listed. I hope this gives you rough idea how it works.
I have been retired a while now and sure it’s still the same.

Thankfully, I have never experienced the kind of incident you and Claire had the misfortune to suffer, however, I have recently been looking in to having a front and rear dashcam fitted to our motorhome. I wasn't wholly convinced it was worth the cost to be honest bearing in mind the low mileage and relatively few occasions, the motorhome is used over the year. After watching your video,I'm definitely going to have one now!.So glad you came off unscathed.

  • @TurtleKing-lol
    @TurtleKing-lol หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi guys, great videos and love watching you both…just speaking as a caravan owner hoping to one day be a motorhome / campervan owner..
    1. Go to VERY reputable dealer! I can tell you where NOT to go if you wish…they will be getting a scathing review in due course.
    If buying used:
    2. Be sure to ask for van’s yearly service history otherwise any manufacturer warranty becomes invalid!
    3. Be sure dealer uploads new owner details to manufacturer’s portal e.g. Elddis use a system called Gateway. This should be done the same day you take ownership.
    4. Treat buying a van as if you are buying a car - do all your checks, inspect it inside and out, take a damp meter and do your own inspection, especially around windows and compartment hatches / doors.
There’s other things I’m sure but these are the things I wish I’d done. I wish I’d walked away tbh.
Caravanning is fun but towing is a pain, IMO.
I tow with a Skoda Kodiaq 2ltr diesel - great car and more than capable.
    Best wishes,
    Ed

I rented out campervans for a few years
One was involved in an accident
The driver of my van had to pay the £1000 policy excess
The other driver admitted responsibility (he hit a grass bank, that removed his front wheel, then slid down the road impacting the side of my van and pushed it into the hedge
The insurance company paid me out in full so I returned the £1000 excess payment back to my driver, probably didn’t need to, but it was in my mind the right thing to do
Looks like you’ve been lucky, buy a lottery ticket
About your claim history, I had a brake failure that put me into the back of a tractor 18 months ago, so have a fault claim on my record, it’s not made any noticeable difference to my car or bike insurance premiums, so don’t worry to much about that 🤞

Hi both, glad you are both ok. I had a similar experience. I was in a loan car as mine was being serviced. I had it literally overnight. On the morning I was taking it back a deer (big one with antlers) came running out of the hedge at the side of the road and I was able to swerve so it would only caught my front offside corner. I saw it limp off back into the hedge in my rear view mirror. I couldn’t stop and didn’t need to as the car still felt fine.
On arriving at the garage I was able to look at the damage and it had cracked the bumper and pushed in the foglight. I had to pay the £250 excess. However, a year later and my car was due a service again, so same garage and a loan car. I ended up with the same car and the damage was still there. I did take issue over the fact I had paid £250 supposedly towards the repair. I can’t recall the wording of their response but it was obvious that there was no point in taking it any further.response

I have my Tigger back, and it was close to being a write-off. My tiger 660 is amazing. This is my accident, and it is not going to put me off.

We were unsure about it at first we wondered if sites might be funny about it and also a van towing a caravan might make us look like workmen 😉 but we were pleasantly surprised how many people are doing the same and not had any problems on site at all. Glad your both ok after your miss app think you were lucky there.

Sorry to hear about your no fault accident, I've no idea whether your insurance will be affected but.....
We used to tow a caravan, it needed it's own insurance and unfortunately I had an accident in a Tesco carpark just before waiting to board a ferry to St Malo. My fault entirely and coughed up straight away.
Thinking I had enough room to manoeuvre alongside a Transit Van I tried to leave only the caravan pivoted more than I expected and I took the Transit Van wing mirror off and damaged his wing above the front wheel. We were devastated ! Diane in tears and a hole, the size of a football in the side of our caravan too !
An AA man taking a break, came to our rescue and sealed the side of our caravan with extra thick sticky cling film and pulled the Transit Van wing out so at least the other guy wasn't stranded.
It ruined the start of our touring holiday, ruined the other guy's holiday - he went back home and my insurance premiums went up too.
Got rid of the caravan once it was fixed and bought a motorhome and never looked back, I look left and right but never looked back. We wouldn't go back to a caravan now. Sorry Claire 😊😊

Hi Andy and Claire. Happy New Year. It's a pity they don't have Dash Cam's like Sat Nav's fitted as standard in all cars, because when you buy or hire a car it's usually the last thing on your mind. If you'd had one in situ (hind sight being a wonderful thing) you might have caught his number plate, but who thinks about stuff like that when you're hiring a car??? I wish I'd been in a car behind you. I had a very similar accident happen to me. I lost a wing mirror as well, but luckily the car behind me managed to see the number plate of the car that crossed the white line hitting my car, and reported it to the police. My premium still went up, even though it was proven not to be my fault, and the other driver was found to be at fault. No wonder Car Insurance Companies are doing so well.

Phew! That was lucky. Glad you’re both Ok. Many years ago I was driving my brand new car on a motorway when I spotted a puff of smoke on the other carriageway and a black object flying vertically up in the air. Before I could think a huge piece of lorry tyre landed on my bonnet. ‘‘Twas a bit of a shock! The bonnet was very badly dented and windscreen cracked. I went through a right rig-ma-roll with the insurance but had to pay out. Then… 3 months later, the police finally dug out some vid footage and , long story short, I got my money back of the insurance company. When does that ever happen?? Best of luck anyway. Great channel btw.

Other dog then decided to jump on me. No bites but dislocated shoulder, took 4 tries and 2 hours to put back, and my shoulder socket is broken. NHS were brilliant. So was Mr D. Thank goodness I prepared meats, veg, etc. Xmas Eve, so he just had to pop bits in the air fryer and Ninja. More xrays today, CT scan this week and 6 weeks in a sling with threat of surgery. Glad you are both okay. Just watch Enterprise, they will stitch you up if they can. I had a car a while ago as a replacement whilst my own vehicle was being repaired. Ours got hit outside my house whils we were away. Anyway, we had a" Courtesy car", really you are hiring it. When we picked up the car it had been raining quite bad so the car was wet. We done a walk round to inspect for damage and it seemed evident all was okay. We had this car for just over a week and the only places I went to in the car was to work and back and the shops. All journeys were within a 40mph zone or less. The day after picking up the car it was dry and noticed a stone chip on the windscreen (outside the wiper range). I thought nothing of it as I know it was not done whilst in my possesion thus far and further more that Enterprise must have known about it being there prior. It conveniently was not mentioned on the hand over. Anyway, long story short, the repair shop where my car was is only down the road from Enterprise so they said when my car was fixed to go and pick up my car and leave the hire car at the garage and the they'd pick it up. Within 10 minutes of me getting back home I got a call from Enterprise to say that they had just picked up the hire car from the garage and that the windscreen was completely smashed. I said that the car had been dropped off at the repair shop with nothing more than a stone chip which was undoubtebly there already when I got the car. I wanted proof as this was now going to cost me £250 for something I know was not damaged. They said that the car is no longer in their possession and that it was at the repair shop having a new screen fitted, this was on a Friday afternoon circa 17:00 so I very much doubt that. The manager (I use the term losely) was very arrogant and totally unprofessional regarding the whole issue and therre was no way he was going to back down on taking £250 from me. . So the next day I decided to do some detective work and took a drive past the car hire place only to find the exact same car on the parking lot along with the exact same stonechip. I went in to confront the manager and I was basically told to leave the premises in a threatening manner or that the Police would be called. I left the premesis and called the Police myself as I was verbally threatened. When I went back inside along with the Police mysteriously, the so called manager that threatened me had vanished and the remaining staff behind the counter said that the manager was never in that day. The Police at this point really could not do anything. I got back home and explained what had happened from an insurance point of view to my insurers just to make them aware what had happened and to maybe use another company in the future. After I had explained they told me that infact any damage would have been met by them anyway and at no expence to mysels as this was part of the deal that they had with Enterprise being as the damage was not my fault or not. They try it on everywhere the world over. We had issues with Enterprise in Los Angeles also. Just be careful they don't try to screw you out of more money. Suffice to say, my son had to use Ebterprise one time as his car broke down the day before he was due to drive up north so he hired one from them. No issue at all. I suppose it's just the rouge few that think we are thick and gullable.
