I had tapes & CDs of Steve Earle back then. I would play it at every party I went to. At the end of of night. It would be missing. I didn't care I just buy it again ..
I was surprised to find out in 1996 while working in the Empty Quarter in Oman and near Saudi Arabia how popular Steve Earle was in Ireland. Evenings at our camp pub singing Earle songs to a guitar player by my Irish buddies made those 5 weeks by 14 hour days pass a lot easier. Earle has never done it the easy or lucrative way but songwriting talent, dedication, and individualism put him up there with Bob Dylan and Van Morrison. Genre busting talent.
Yes he is one of the greatest. I'm on a towns and steve roll. When i stop to listen to their music, my world stops and all i can do is listen to their music for hours they are dear to my heart. Always and 4-ever. I hope all is good they are in my heart. 4hrs listening and cant turn off their music i love it heart and soul. I feel the presence of towns thru is music its a good feeling......

Ha! This takes us to Missoula, MT on Saturday night 6.18.11 when Steve, Allison & The Dukes rocked us for three hours!!! Go, Steve, Go & THANKS FOR A GREAT SHOW!!!
This song holds a two way meaning for him... he's also referring to drugs. Yes,"there is a toll to pay"-GOOD lyrics, loveable vocals and the distinctive melody that is Steve Earl's.He performed some of his best songs yet with the Dukes.
Steve Earle should have been as big as Springsteen, his life style probably kept getting in the way. This is another great song from a first class singer/songwriter.
Springsteen is a very untalented punk if you compare him to Steve. "The boss" laugh out loud, a legend in his own mind. That's all that springsteen is.!
This whole album “Guitar Town” was just amazing! Wore that cassette out! 1987-88’ Good times and good cruising music. I put in many miles just driving to this song and the others on the album! I like your new “L.A. Freeway” song too! I always loved that song from a kid..
Dude. Steve Earle is where it’s at. I saw him in a tiny venue in Fort Bragg ca. He’s the man. I yelled “Galway girl” and he reacted. Said… “I don’t know what I’m gonna play, how do you?” So yeah, he talked to me, as my beer bottle I snuck in clanged all the way down to the front row. You’re my hero Steve. Thank you SO MUCH for your music. MAJOR part of my life.
I was drawn to this song, and Guitar Town, upon hearing them for the first time (with these videos)...and through Copperhead Road and his dark time, he has come back with works of such strength and sensibility. Just can't get enough.
Yes, he is. So original, and so good...all my favorite themes are addressed in his songs. This song is just exceptional. Best times seeing him were at Hardly Strictly Blugrass Festival, a free festival in SF every October, and another time in SF, at the Fillmore.

No problem - I am probably a little too obsessed with Steve Earle. I have heard has already has a girlfriend, so maybe 7 is lucky. He has said this divorce was the hardest, since it was his longest marriage and his only sober, and he tried harder to keep it together.
I second that, Beethowen. It was Black Dog and the soundtrack album that finally allowed me to accept country music. Black Dog was the last of the great vehicular action films.
in what scene does this song play? only part that sounds similar is when Jack calls meatloaf or the Cutler that he wants off on the load, and then shortly after you can see the Camaro and the truck following driving out of that little dirt shoulder or whatevr they parked at, ive been trying to find the song but cant, i dont think theres lyrics at all. but anways in what part does nowhere road play

Always taught Steve(Earle) was a storyteller just as Johny Cash was back in his prime singing life songs of the common folks 🍺

Well been rocking this one for over 30 years and 3 million miles still stands the test of time.Keep on Trucking
I wish this song was longer...I love it and always end up playing twice in a row while I'm trucking.
driving this afternoon, this song came on - over too soon - played it again..
I been listening to it like 10 times in a row the last week or so.
I almost hear bagpipes. Definitely love the harp
Of course you're a trucker

Lyrics
There's a road, in Oklahoma
Straighter than a preacher
Longer than a memory
And it goes, forever onward
Been a good teacher
For a lot of country boys like me
I push that load from here to someday
I'll push as long as I'm alive, but I don't know how long I'll last
'Cause it's just a road, it ain't no highway
I'm blowin' by the double five
I know I'm going way too fast
I been down this road just searching' for the end
It don't go nowhere, it just brings you back again
Leaves you lonely and cold, standin' on the shoulder
But you've come too far to go back home
So you're walkin' on a nowhere road
Some folks say, if you keep rollin'
And keep it on the yellow line
It'll take you on the big highway
But there's a toll to pay, if you're going
The keeper of the gate is blind
So you better be prepared to pay
Jon thanks!
