Hopefully the house will sell quickly. I hope whoever does buy it puts the money into it to finish all of the things Aaron dreamed of doing before Life got in the way. He tried. He really did. Things have a funny way of working out, though. I think he's where he needs to be, helping his Mom and Dad out. Papa Hugh certainly can use a couple of extra hands.
It will take a lot of labor and money to get this home in shape, I hope someone does it before it gets too far gone, great potential and should be preserved.

I have driven by this home a millions times ...I wish I had the money to restore it. Beautiful home thank you for allowing the world to view its beauty , such a joy to see .
Dan is a wealth of knowledge and loving the personal memories shared. This house should be on the registry of historic homes. My family has a home in WV that was built before Civil War so I guess that would've been still VA back then but the house has always been in our family and still is. It has gone thru lots of renovations but it still has the big stone chimneys on each end of the house and I have wonderful memories of spending my summer vacations there.

The Whatley house is a treasure. Your insight and Mr. Dan's history of the cabin makes it easy for me to picture early people in it. Dan's story of the well made me smile. His daddy taught him an excellent lesson. How nice of the family to welcome travelers to drink from the well. I envy you, Robert, for taking a sip and seeing how good it tastes. My husband has family still in the Ozarks, and when we've visited various kin, we were always offered some beverage. My choice was always well water. It is so tasty. Thanks both of you for sharing this wonderful old cabin with us.
Ripping off the porch siding boards to expose the beautiful logs was a real travesty. THE reason those logs were still in good shape was because they had been covered. Then siding was torn off the end wall also and it was left wide open to the elements.
Lot of history in that old place . I hope they can save it as an historical landmark. certainly would be nice if the family took it over but that is probably wish full thinking . Thanks for showing us around . Keep Safe ❤Keep Well❤

My uncle was a Whatley, name was Euell Whatley, lived outside metro Atlanta in the latter years of his life, if anyone knows that name. My husband is a Bacon, one of the founding families of Georgia, came here in the 1600's from England and has quite a knowledge of the old churches and family homes, in and around Riceboro and Savannah, played around them when he was a child (he's turning 70 in a few days) and they're burned in his memory. It's amazing to see these historical places still standing. It's also nice to see people who truly care about them. So few have any affinity for such anymore, sadly. ~Cynthia

I ❤️ this! My grandmother lived in a house near Greensboro Alabama when she was a child that was a log cabin that was covered in clapboard like this one. She said they could sit in the windows as the logs were so wide.
I'm at the point right now where Dan is talking about the wooden shingles on the porch roof. Here in South Jersey, and surrounding areas, wooden roof shingles are Atlantic White Cedar, which is a native tree here, and very plentiful. I think it's rare in Georgia. Atlantic White Cedar wood doesn't rot. So it's the best wood for roof shingles. I believe the wooden roof shingles on Independence Hall in Philadelphia are Atlantic White Cedar from New Jersey. I'm pretty sure. Oh, that kitchen sink in that house reminds me of the kitchen sink in my grandfather's farm house. Unfortunately his house was torn down, way back around 1989 or so, because when it got sold, the buyers were only interested in the land. That house is really cool! Very interesting tour and history. The oldest house in this county is actually much older than our county, because our county is a result of the original county being split in 1837. The oldest house in our county is from the 1720s. They were never able to pinpoint an exact year. It's a brick house, and it's a State historic site. I went to see it once, several years ago, and got a private tour.

I also own land with a very old cemetery in Harris County. I bought the land mainly because I lived the idea of having a piece of history of the county I grew up in.

Such a Beauitful Cabin. It is nice to see something like this Cabin still in existence today. Now days most Historic places are just tore down for the New. When you talked about how many former acres this place use to have reminds me of my Husband's Grandfather as they use to own over 600 acres. They were big Dairy Farmers, an raised Horses too. Now the little town they live in needed to build a new road to get to the next big town an worked a deal with him and paid him so much money plus put in a huge Culvert so his Animals could get back an forth. I'm told he eventually sold the Acrage accross the Highway but kept the rest to the south. I was told that he was quite the Man to go to. As he was involved in the running of the town an the Politics of it weird but its all true an the Old Orginal house that he build out on all the land is still standing today. Thank you Robert an Dan for sharing this.

Not interested in his personal life, prayers for a blessed outcome. So funny I was watching while Dan was talking next to that amazing hearth, I thought about Mr. Whatley having just finished his cabin, maybe cooking a fresh kill right there, thinking about his new home and his plans......then you said you had sat there by that hearth with a fire going the night before! Beautiful old home! Love the fireplaces! The only thing that needs attention is that kitchen. Those cabinets should be removed and old cabinets installed. A farm sink also would look much better. Nice tour! ♥️
I have been waiting for this video. I remember Aaron showing Robert and Dan being there while he was finishing up the packing and moving. It looks so bare and lonely without the family and critters there. I hope the Homestead survives for many more generations.
Loved this one. There's a cabin similar to this up in Cave Spring, GA (Floyd County). 2 story and built during the time the Cherokee were in this area. Come visit Rome/Floyd County for lots of history like this.
Beautiful place and beautiful logs! I cannot believe that it had never been chinked. Originally they would have filled spaces like that with wood chips and shavings and a "cement" made of earth, clay and silt. If I recall they would have to repeat the chinking every few years. I loved the Foxfire books! LOL

Loved this one. There's a cabin similar to this up in Cave Spring, GA (Floyd County). 2 story and built during the time the Cherokee were in this area. Come visit Rome/Floyd County for lots of history like this.
Beautiful place and beautiful logs! I cannot believe that it had never been chinked. Originally they would have filled spaces like that with wood chips and shavings and a "cement" made of earth, clay and silt. If I recall they would have to repeat the chinking every few years. I loved the Foxfire books! LOL

OMG! I’ve been to this house as well! I went there about a year and a half ago and bought a metal brake off the man that was living there at the time, I think he was moving out. I took a picture of the house at the same angle as the beginning of your video. Love the house!
