Pricing should be based on labor hours and cleaning technique. So the first question you have to ask yourself of how much do you want to make per hour. Most mechanics post their labor cost per hour. So if you want to make $50 per hour a $200 detail should only take 2 hours tops the remaining $100 would consist of travel equipment and supplies. Next thing you gotta do is perfect your cleaning techniques to the point you know how much time it’s going to take to do an exterior wash. How much time it’s going to take to clay, and wax. Then you do a rate rec, meaning you shop around and find out how much other detailers charge. If someone is charging a drastically below market rate, you simply hit them with the market average and what you have to offer. You can tell them your detail finishes last longer or you use better products, or you have value added services they don’t offer that come standard with your service. When I started I wanted to make $15,000 a month. That’s $3750 a week. So if you only book $200 details you would need to do roughly 4 per day 6 days a week. Once add in travel time, that’s 12 hours a day detailing or traveling or 72 hours a week. After you take out taxes and expenses, that’s going to put you below $50 an hour. I only want to do 2 to 3 details a day, 5 days a week. So for something like that I would need to charge more.
Hey man, just wanted to say I’m from the Jackson area too and am opening my own detailing business in the next few weeks. I’ve been getting pretty discouraged recently seeing all the competition nearby. I just wanted to say I really appreciate the advice. I know even though I’m starting out of the back of my sedan with basic equipment, I’ll work my ass off to get the job done right. Gotta start somewhere 💪🏻

I’m not mobile but not charging enough hit home with me. The last two interiors I did I severely undercharged and I was detailing angry which turned out to be a good thing. I’ll never undercharge again and if charging a fair rate causes me to lose a customer that’s not the type of person I want to deal with anyways. Raising prices will get you fewer clients but better paying clients and make you more money in the end. Cheap is not good and good is not cheap.
thank you .. TH-cam make things look better than it truly is a times you’re correct ( no struggle not full-time) lowball rate no prices Great information
What I don’t see in detailing is touch ups. 2 simple touch ups that I do is that. Majority of cars that I come in contact with have black interiors. I carry a small bottle of black dye to cover up stains that won’t come out very similar how detailers treat black trim that has faded. Another technique that I use is a bottle of peroxide that I use on the floor mats white lettering. That makes them nice and white and stand out.
Truth I learned most of what I know from TH-cam. But I had to figure the rest out on my own. You're going to end up developing your own style and procedures. What works best for someone may not work best for you.
Anthony, I love your videos the problem I’m having is I take too long on the cars but I can’t cut corners brother so I can’t get to the car is enough time extra cars

I really stay away from cars and trucks that are real dirty with mud most my customers are returning happy customers. I do Lexus benzes rangerovers big trucks like GMC sierra Denali and suvs. Most my customers rides are real clean and kept clean from the last detail I did do the interior and exteriors. $75 car $100 suv and $150 Big truck. By the way very good job 👍

Facts! “No one can teach experience “ no matter how many videos you watch or people you ask. You have to just experience it yourself 💯💯💯
Exactly

When you get angry, you tend to want to do something about it. I’ve made the mistake of not charging enough and suffered from it. Thanks for sharing.

Don't cut corners, just charge more so you can do one or two cars a day and still have a good pay day
