  • Hi everyone! I created this channel to share my passion for free and open-source software (FOSS) with the world. I also want to help you, bit by bit, to replace most of the proprietary software that you're currently using with free and open-source solutions -- from operating systems to gaming to productivity -- and even cloud services.
I am not dogmatic about this. I do think that there are some use cases that are still best served by proprietary software in 2024 -- but hopefully that will change with time. The most important thing is that we vote with our wallets and try to support companies and FOSS initiatives that respect us as users.
I hope you enjoy my videos, and thanks for watching!

I switch form windows 10 to linux mint about 5 months ago cause i got sick of microsoft interfentance (data stealing conste updating and hacking.). So far it's working quiet well.

I'll be using your Debian 12 instructional video soon. Very keen to switch over fully to Linux, Debian Bullseye KDE plasma was brilliant for me.
I am looking to set myself up as product design engineer / inventor - working from home/small workshop, and would love to move over to Linux for this.
I think it's possible.. but I am not sure if it would be wise yet. (I maybe wrong, I have a lot to learn aha)
    Looking forward to more videos!

Thanks for commenting! If you were on Bullseye/KDE, Bookworm/KDE will be a perfect fit with some nice new features. I think your idea could work. Do you know what software you'd need for that?

      No problem :)
Photo, Vector, Publishing - Affinity suite. (leaving Adobe)
CAD - Fusion 360 (engineering) but would prefer something perpetual. Plasticity, Blender (artistic).
      Video edit/fx - Davinci Resolve
3D rendering - most likely Blender & Unreal engine for my needs.
      Electronics/PCB - Probably KiCad.
      Simulation/FEA/CFD - researching, possibly openFOAM.
I am still researching and considering what else I would need, as well as alternatives.

@@alexhinxman2269 It looks like many of those applications provide a native Linux build.I know many people have had good luck running Affinity via WINE.
DaVinci Resolve works quite well on Linux.
I have a lot of personal experience with Blender. It works flawlessly on Linux. I used it alongside an open-source game engine called "Godot", which I also recommend.
Keep us posted on your journey!

@@Community-Compute Ahh thank you, that's great to know 👍 and I will check out Godot.
Aha, i'll do my best - probably will be 3-6 months before I am able to properly get set up, but will let you know when I'm there.
There are some other things I would be keen to learn, which you may cover in future videos?
Security - how to set up and maintain a secure system (PC and Server), if possible to cyber security standard ISO27001
Maintenance - Defragging, back-ups, clean-up, etc (the things you are meant to do regularly in windows, or set-up to do automatically)
I'm sure more questions will come as I do more research.

@@alexhinxman2269 Looking forward to hearing more! Yeah, those sound like great ideas for videos. I'll for sure do one on security. For defragging, are you running drives with spinning disks?
An easy local backup solution is Timeshift -- you can find it in apt. I also plan to do a video on setting up your own personal cloud if you're interested in cloud backups/file syncing across devices. That will also integrate seamlessly with your file manager.
      Take care!
