I prefer to incorporate horse/donkey or chicken dung into the soil when I'm planting them. If that's not available, I use a balanced fertilizer like 12-12-12 or 13-13-13. I've found that in our soil, it doesn't take much fertilizer for sweet potatoes. Thanks for watching!
@@applecreekoutdoors4589 thank you for your reply. I’ll try to grow them next year. Your video made me so excited to try. I never grow sweet potatoes before.
Amazing harvest. Enjoy the fruits of your labor. Your sound was very hard to hear. Did you add anything to your soil. How long were they in the ground. I am still waiting on mind They will be 4 months at the end of this month. I want to wait until just before the frost. zone 8. Any suggestions.
Thanks for watching! If I haven’t done a soil test, I will usually add a balanced fertilizer like triple 13 or triple 19 when I plant. I also may try to incorporate a little bit of chicken manure in the soil as well. We have pretty good soil, though, so we get a pretty good crop regardless. I would think in zone eight waiting to the end of this month would be fine. I have found over the years that the most important factor for sweet potatoes is consistent moisture, especially during the first 90 or so days. Hope you have a great harvest!
@@applecreekoutdoors4589 you are the best. I learned from you. I appreciate your response. Thank you so very much for your opinion on how long I am waiting before I harvest. It's still summer like weather her 80s and 90s. I will check to see when the first frost is due. GOD BLESS YOU
