For anyone curious: I tested this engine out in Traptrix. Josh mentions 2 things here that stood out to me: A. it dies to nib B. it doesnt need a normal summon
Traptrix right now is a fairly low ceiling deck that struggles with single handtraps such as ash, but is good at playing around nib, as we can make rafflesia on the 5th summon with virtually every hand in the game. This means that we can fascilitate the rafflesia+sera+1-2 set trapholes combo AND do this link 5 into the trap play ontop.
What do we get from this? Usually the "ontop" plays in midrange trix would be smth like a parallel exceed to make a time thief redoer or pinguicula, very low to the ground. Instead of that we turn this into basically 4 pops (2 of the trap because we have an insect and plant link and 2 of the link) and a kashtira birth. In addition, we can actually use the level 4 as a free extender and traptrix is very desperate for tools to pick apart boards which this does. The grind game of these cards is also kinda insane, as every single turn you can summon back any raika via the spell, then shuffle it back for the link 2,3 or 5. Ontop of this, since we are insect/plant/reptile locked anyways, Aracnocampa is a legit free extender for the entire engine
Now what is the synergy between these? and here it gets interesting. Besides the trap being okey at a baseline if we endup drawing it without having a raika combo (its always atleast a generic pop 1 card) we have a level 4 extender but whats more, traptrix can fairly easily fascilitate jasmin to summon the raika plant from deck. Not only this, but the level 3 raika being able to summon back any level 4 or lower, allows us to get additional traptrix monsters on board. This way we can combo from either fairly low traptrix count hands (like aracnocampa and this new raika circular) into a more normal traptrix board (with sera rafflesia) while fascilitating the link5, or we can combo from traptrix into this, while still making rafflesia on the way.
I do want to note some things: We can now use the reptile therion technically which is an incredibly powerful card as it represents 2 bodies in 1, technically if you search borea lily (via jasmin or jasmin summon mardel etc.) you can get discollo, search the reptile, link borea off, summon reptile with borea. Use its effect summon borea, and now you have accessto a rank 8. Now this does require some bricks, so here a less cope play:
If you have additional extenders you can make Benghalancer first, then link it off to go into the link 3 and link 5 plays, and at the end of your combo use for example sera (link 1) and the link 3 to summon back benghalancer.
Realistic endboards i ended on have: Sera, rafflesia, link 5, raika trap, 1-2 set trap holes, Raika Birth. with this you not only have fairly serious setups for turn 1 but also alot of grind potential. And your booties are actually massive together with the spell, allowing you to deal alot of damage very quickly. Also reusing the link 2 every turn means you can basically get link 2 + link 5 back every single turn (and link 4 too if its in grave).
Overall i feel like this can fix alot of traptrix issues, its inherent mega weakness of going second getsless obnoxious, it gets a higher ceiling combo that still allows it to play low to the ground, its consistency in its endboards goes up by alot. Now if you just replace exceed, the raika engine takes 8 slots for the combo and 1-2 for the trap so 9-10 slots in comparison to exceeds 3 slots, So we obviously have to think about deck ratios again. Extra deck also feels very tight and i am not sure yet what else to fit in there, as the link 2 has a turnwide lock meaning cards like S:P or rank 4 generics arent as accessible as in pure trix. But i am overall really looking forward to this archetypes release
yeah the first thing that comes to mind when i read the first 3 cards before the link was how much traptrix going to pop off with this engine
especially with the new quickplay blink out, the new cards fix a lot of traptrix going second problem
Dude, i'm so hyped! I main traptrix rn! and i've been testing agnimal with therion and it works especially with a 40 card build, i run 9-11 hand traps so i can easily just put this engine no worries! 🔥
@@i.scooptcg Do keep in mind tho thaz the raika link 2 has a full turn lock so you cant access stuff like regulus when you want to do raika plays. My current prototype is moreso a Link traptrix variant feeling very similar to mathmech, where you make some xyz summon first with only a few in deck and then link climb.
But the combo is still a blast! my main concern is gonna be board breakers in game two and three but technically ,ou can just do the therion combo by siding it in to setup a negate, or prayge on drawing judgement. Gotta test a bit more for this
ye only issue it doenst fix the main problem of traptriz, which is going second. Arguably, it makes it worse, since the number of defensive cards will decrease to include these cards

The Raika deck seems to revolve around the ability to keep bringing back your big Link monsters. I guess that's why their effect isn't super broken, cuz you can keep bringing them back and reusing them for almost no cost.
Also, you may want to play more than one copy of the Trap, cuz you can keep using all the Link Monster's effects since the cost to bring them back is pretty small.
I'm not sure you need more than one trap, you can recycle it with the level 1 plant
I'm both a Beetrooper and Ogdoadic player so I couldn't be happier in my life, but I dunno how much those two themes can be mixed. Now I predict a LV2 Reptile and a second trap in the next set for this archetype, because the first thing is missing and an unsearchable spell wouldn't make sense.
I think it's really interesting. It's a 1 card starter in a RIP type deck, so you could hypothetically run pure with a ton of handtraps. The starter is a level 1 0/0, so you can search it with one for one, piri res map, probably other cards. You could play it with a lot of handtraps. Or, with the link 4 effect, you can ignore handtraps and use the ever-popular time-tearing morganite (/s). More realistically, it's a pretty compact main deck engine and a few ED cards for the benefit. If you can fit them, it can potentially raise the ceiling on those deck's plays.....
Beetrooper might be good, you can send/banish gokipole and resonance insects, it adds something to do with the link-4 if it's pseudo-towers isn't useful or if you can bring it back with Saturn. -It can sometimes avoid nib with the battlewasp and scale bomber cards as well, so if you can bring either of those out, you can Raika climb fairly safely (especially due to their recursion).- Ignore that, I'm illiterate.
I imagine reptile/Ogdoladic, Rikka, Traptrix could all consider a use for these cards. If nothing else, I'm buying playsets because the art is sick .
I have to ask because I dont know if Im missing something, but how do Scale Bomber and Sting help play through Nib?

You hit the right point. Raika is a 1 card atlas that doesn't require your NS. Raika Beetroopers alone can with the Lvl 1 and an Insect make the L5, sting the poison, raika trap and Sting Lancer with a shitton of grind to back it up. Previously, Bee's biggest issues were the lack of 1 cards n dieing to ash, now you don't die to either of those anymore (Most insects + a raika End up being combo, And any insect + Insect Raika is ALWAYS atlas)
Basically, You only die to Nib now, and not even totally if they drop it at the wrong time (most lilely gonna happen)
spell card: "monster reborn" lets you summon divine monsters without them going to the graveyard at the endphase, so it's kinda cool.

Being sent to the graveyard is not an activated effect they would end in the graveyard anyway
@gabrielsuarez6556 Mandatory effects are effects that must "Activate" if they meet their activation conditions.
Normal summon lonefire, tribute for the plant raika. Search the insect raika, special summon it. Make the link 2, revive lonefire with the insect raika, do some generic plant stuff (can even like special orphys scorpio and stuff like that), continue from there
18:07 - There's that insect shinobi link 2 that's completely generic (just needs two monsters with different names). So yeah, it's a piece of cake to get out and to get back from the grave if you have any plant, insect or reptile monsters accessible in your deck.

All I see when I read these cards is an insect boss monster that ACTUALLY ends on interactions!
But really, the insect cards here combo so-well with established insect plays. Just being able to recycle banished cards as a part of extension is something the deck desperately needed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but these can recycle banished ED cards as-well? Unlike something like Absolute Neptune which says it has to shuffle them back to the Main Deck? If so, then these are absolutely insane. Combine this with the fact that the last set of insect support started to tie the cards together with plants (Circle of Fairies, Fairyant, Beargram, Diabolantis). The amount of special summons may even enable killer cards like Danaus to be a consistent threat. Not sure how nicely the reptiles will come in since Insect and Plants are BOTH notoriously xenophobic, but I'm looking forward to playing around with these.

Run 3 of the plant, 3 of the rota/birth spell, and one of the insect. Small tri type engine that gets you into a decent big guy that forces interaction from your opponent before carrying on with the rest of your decks other engine. Just like tri-brigade.
It's also cannot activate it's effects. Cards with continuous effects will still apply. Fossil dyna for example.
i feel like i'm the only person that understands the reference behind the new monster reborn.
in the manga in the battle city rules all spell cards were quick plays by default, so the new monster reborn is a quickplay that shows artwork from the manga where yugi used it to revive DM, the name of the card is Yugi saying he's activating the spell card monster reborn.

I mean the artwork is literally a monster reborn with a dark magician being reborn so I think it's pretty self-explanatory that yami is activating his spell card to revive dark magician...

I don't know if its better than Monster Reborn, but it being a quick-play is phenomenal if you're trying to dodge or interrupt GY targeting effects.
Since we're all not playing mandatory Ash, Called By and Maxx "C" in the TCG, it'll have proper use cases as a tech card and can rotate in and out of the format like any well designed tech card. If anything, its probably a better going first card since its spell speed 2, but it still has a fair amount of strong applications for going second (someone in the chat already mentioned dodging Called By and Bystials). And this still has a lot of applications in link and synchro climbing strategies among other uses, which helps give it a niche. Like, i'd love to draw into this off of JAM Extreme Session in a deck like PUNK, even if i just have it splashed in there as a 1-of in the main deck. It'd allow me to keep combing further.

@@LIGHTLORD_MASTA_RAWRGER Well keep in mind, if this is in response to the Tear name trying to Fusion Summon, the effect will still fizzle because that Tear that's Fusion Summoning still needs to be in the GY. So all you're saving it from is banishment and/or bringing out a Bystial.
kusarigami can be used t3 as your first summon if it's in grave and you have a raika on the field

link 4 is basically floodgate, it stops garunix, Populus, lady lab to activate card effect in the hand
pretty busted if this card just being one of card with full end board of this heavy combo deck
I have seen cards like this get analyzed in the context of how they fair against one or two particular decks since they are the best or popular and it never matters in the long run

Just pointing out that if the new Monster Reborn said "negate its effects "instead of "cannot activate its effects" it would read like a stronger Called by the Grave.

I really want to try this deck, but at the same time I'm kinda new to the game and so don't really know what archetypes would be good to mix with it. I typically play midrange and combo stuff so really interested in this
You can ken and gen to force the monster effect that enables the handtrap restriction but as Josh pointed out, by then you a re nib-able anyways and before then you would have already gotten handtrapped.
I was thinking that if there are loops then this could still be useful but most of these cards have hard once per turns so that's unlikely too.

Yeah ogdoadic have issue with bosses to go into and no issue getting board presence. Dawn of Ogdoadic makes 4-5 tokens ez.
Insects have 10+ different generic extenders.

I could see Tearlaments use _«Spell Card: Monster Reborn»_ to help dodge Bystials or D.D. Crow and at the same time be able to resolve the activated effect to fusion summon.
It’s not negating the effect, it’s preventing them from activating, so if a monster activates its effect in GY and you summon that monster with SC:MR in chain, it will still resolve👍
Tears in particular need to shuffle themselves from the GY though
How many plant-only xenolocks does Plant run these days? Getting just the Link 3 for the trap woud be crazy for the plant endboard.
A lot, most notably Sunvine Sowing, which is super early into the combo. It could be played in some plant decks (Traptrix maybe?) but it's not compatible with the Sunavalon engine
the new aroma lvl 1 also locks into plant. Naturia and beetrooper are probably the best options but we never know what the community can cook
The question to ask is what reptile deck can force youre opponent to activate a monster eff
You do end on both the link 5+4 and then also if you run traptrix you get sera, sacred tree beast, set trap holes and set raika trap at minimum

Trap trix is interesting sera plus reflasia so your nib proof then end the link 5 plus trap.
Shark Cannon with 3 spells in grave + the restrictions only last a turn and you can target your own grave, pretty good if you ask me.

I have this one for example opened in one of my tabs, and if I open any other video I have to lower the volume by like 30 (no it's not just one vid, every vid except Josh's works at the same volume level)
Raika is kinda inverse mayakashi with links, but instead of dakki reborning, it's the links themselves

Reptiles fill GY easily, plants too, enginewise IDK that insects have anything that synergizes with raika except baseball gimmicks (which I haven't fully read/understood tbh). Insects do have some decent generic extra deck monsters though.

No bc it's already using its effect. If you chain to there ash or Maxx C its effect still goes off

Yes it fits rather nice with it.
Obviously you pair this with some of the more broken cards. Resonance insect, Gokipole, The plant goodstuff and reptile goodstuff. The deck has unique acess to some very strong monotype links. The Alien Link 3, Jamsin and the Aroma Gang, Beetroopers with their massive link climb abilities and so on. This will be played like Birdup, where a small engine to compliment the already good cards from each type. I don't even think you gonna play anything else than the link 2/3 and just focus on getting a high consistency out of the engine with a lot of recycling and search power. The deck has a lot of options and open up new plays we did not see before, so it will be interesting to figure out the endboards.
hey so rulings question, if you activate a monster effect in the graveyard, then your opponent activates called by targeting that monster, can you use this spell to dodge called by? Asking cuz the card says that your monster cannot activate its effects this turn yet you just activated it.

Sorry should've been more clear, I'm aware of how called by works, what I'm talking Abt is the new monster reborn, it's says the monster you reborn can't activate it's effects the turn it is summoned via reborn. So if you activate the new reborn in the same chain you activate the graveyard effect, will it still let you reborn said monster?
I'd imagine that it does work. Since you already activated the effect and the card only says "they can't activate their effects". It doesn't say their effects are negated.
Called by needs to banish a monster to negate that effect,so monster effect in this case would work
You should be able to because called by has a "and if you do" so the banishing has to happen or else the negate wont happen

@@LightingOfTheRedShadow I was referring to the Monster Reborn effect. The question was in that situation, can the player use the new Monster Reborn to dodge Called By. So chain 1 monster effect in the grave, chain 2 Called By, Chain 3 Monster Reborn the targeted monster.
But then the question also is about if the Monster Reborn will negate the monsters effects since it says the monster summoned cannot activate their effects. Which it should not negate their graveyard effect because it says "the monster's effects cannot be activated", but the effect has already activated before it hits the field.

Wait a second, doesn't that stop Slifer and Oblelisk from sending themselves to GY for a turn? That could be a nifty trick for those decks to pull.
Slifer can't activate it's effect that turn you summon it with the new Reborn which.. doesn't do anything.

Ok im gonna speculate now. Other tri type archetypes: dino, dragon, wyrm. Psychic, machine, cyberse. Im split on Fairy, Fiend, Zombie or Spellcaster, Illusion, Zombie.

Raika may not seem that insane on the surface but plants insects have a really broken card pool. I can easily see the Raika support being mixed with some of the new and/or old Aroma cards and the Rikka cards. You also have to keep in mind that cards like Resonance Insect and Rikka Glamour exist. I'm almost confident the reason Rikka Sunavalon got hit on the ban list was so that Rikka didn't become tier 0.

It’s not a quick play so targeting both doesn’t actually do anything for the original
In regards to the link 5.
You guys are looking at this all wrong. The arrows and link climbing both this deck and beetrooper can do is insane. Beetroopers problems was resource burn but this archetype resets that while also providing more extenders. You can link lock in beetrooper now
I kinda like the idea of the main deck Raikas, but the links are just whatever. The tri-BRigade gimmick of banishing from the GY to summon links would go so hard in here.

15:34 I mean, it could be decent in conjunction with something like crossout or called by 🤷♂️ You negate their monster and lock them out for the rest of the turn, but that effect comes way too late. By the time you reach that point there’s not much left for them to use
Another reptile archetype that can’t use snake rain. Very sad. Lonefire Blossom seems like it’ll be one of the better normal summons in the deck at least so it can use some of the old type support
you can pair it with a deck that can use snake rain tho they don't lock to archetype just to reptile insect plant and since the archetype doesn't need your normal summon it can improve the ceiling ıf whatever you pair it with
