For me, as a brazilian, McLaren MP4 4/4 and the other ones for that era will always win a livery competition because of a gigantic bias I have due to being a representation of the iconic rivalry Senna x Prost and what represents for our country. My girlfriend literally have a photo of this car in monaco as a screensaver, It's just unfair in my mind, this livery represents a modern hero, I just can't shake this off.

Personally I prefer the '92 Williams, just by 2 cents. Also, the Renault R25 wins it for me. We've seen the 2018 to 2021 era of cars in full black, even Renault did one in full black for testing and people raved about that car. The Renault R25 livery is the clear class of its field when it came to livery, while the Alpine, best livery of its field, had challengers in the RB special liveries, the Toro Rosso, and I'd argue, the AMR livery (if it wasn't ruined in 2021 by the ugly BWT pink.) The R25 is a legendary livery for that reason.

By that logic Kick Sauber's livery is both iconic and legendary already, yet it's actually closer to forgettable and hideous That being said, credit where credit is due, it is almost impossible to separate livery from actual physical piece of ingeneering and I do absolutely adore 2005's Renault, but the livery itself is honestly kinda mid, it's those spaceship wings and general aero that carry the aesthetics of the cars from that era like crazy

The 92 Williams is a brilliant iconic livery, BUT the Camel bit on the back of nose/front of the cockpit disrupts the colour blocking for me & the Chrome McLaren's sleekness ends up trumping it. Also the run time being 1 hr 11 mins 11 secs is just as satisfying as the best of these liveries.
I've been saying the Alpine 2021 livery is the greatest of all time (I might have it hung up in my room), and I thought I was the only one. Also, adding that it forms half of a Union Jack from a vertical shot elevates it even more from my designer brain.

from the special liveries I can remember the 2020 Tuscan GP Ferrari livery stands out for me as the best Ferrari livery, also the 2023 Las Vegas GP Red Bull livery was very special as was the 2021 Turkey GP Red Bull livery.

I'm also baffled by folks's love of the Jordan. It's fine, but those two colors ain't the best together. Think it's mostly the silhouette that's making folks love it.

Way too much contratianism going on. I think there was a bias against cars that were beautiful on their own and or successful, especially if that success was from more than 20 years ago. Mr. V makes good content but this was basically painful to watch.
Thing is you could run this a thousand times and get very different results depending on the match ups. But the winner would always be your winner.

so obviously the Lotus 49 is in this video but I guess you mean the green version? It's an interesting point but we didn't consider them "liveries" back in the days of national colours on cars
@MrVsGarage yeah the 49B is in the video. It's the one with wings and the gold leaf branding but I personally prefer the Green and Gold Lotus from the 50s and early 60s.
Makes sense why you wouldn't include them though, and it was a great video.
Honorable mention: Sauber 2017, it is so forgotten that even though it is one of my favorites, I sometimes forget about it.
So it still ends up coming down to one of Fernando's cars, how fitting.
the williams criticism for busyness is the same livery as the alpine I'm confused
from the special liveries I can remember the 2020 Tuscan GP Ferrari livery stands out for me as the best Ferrari livery, also the 2023 Las Vegas GP Red Bull livery was very special as was the 2021 Turkey GP Red Bull livery.
