    This also affects more than just "ebikers". Every single person who uses a pev is now going to have issues. With all these new laws wich will get adopted by most states, 99% of the e-scooters and the e-unicycles will be illegal.
    The more they restrict where you can use said equipment, the more cumbersome it will be. Then people will just go back to using petro vehicles.
    What most dont talk about or dont realize is that this newer generation predominantly uses e-vehicles.most dont even have a desire to get a license or want to even own a car. Between Uber/Lyft and e-vehicles, they have access to most places they want to go.
    This cuts into the pockets of the big car makers and they are not happy about it. The best way to force people back into the petro market is to restrict their freedoms on e-vehicles. Since they cant outright attack it, they do it under the cloak of "safety awareness".
    Someone please explain to me how a 16yr old on an ebike doing 30mph is more dangerous than a 16yr old driving a 3000lbs metal brick at 30mph?
    None of this is about safety. Its all about annoyance and money.

      That’s what I said on yesterday’s video. It’s not about the safety, they don’t give a rats rear end about us. It’s more money for the courts. They have to keep court in session every week! Pay those Judges/Clerks/Bailiffs/Janitors/District Attorneys/Court appointed attorneys salaries! I live in a small mountain community in San Bernardino. There are no protected bike lanes, no shoulders, and STEEP hills. Aka, no bicycle infrastructure in sight. I purpose built my ebike to keep up with traffic no matter the gradient... FOR SAFETY. Both for the safety of the drivers and myself.
    I have a motorcycle license and being a grown man, if a cop wants to pull me over, so be it. I'm not 13 and driving like an idiot.

    It's still a federal regulation, a "low-speed electric bicycle" is limited to 20 MPH under pedal or throttle assist. This covers class 1 and 2. A class 3 e-bike is pedal assist only, there is no "class 3 w/ throttle" e-bike by definition. If there's a throttle and that works above 20 MPH, it's no longer class 2. What to call a bike like that is a different matter.
    My take is, with the current federal regs., manufacturers need to abide by those rules in advertising their product regardless of which state. They should not be able to advertise an e-bike w/ throttle as class 3 and if it can be pedaled or throttled above 20 MPH, it can't be advertised as class 2, basic truth in advertising.
    Maybe they need to simplify the rules and have, for example, a revised class 1 up to 15 (like Europe) or 20 MPH with pedal or throttle. Then a revised class 2 up to 28 MPH with pedal or throttle. Or make the throttle assist cut out at 20 MPH in any class if there's a valid reason for that. At a minimum, there needs to be some clarification of the existing definitions as they are confusing to consumers and offer too many "interpretations" for mfgs.
    Where I live in CA, almost all the dedicated multi-use trails have a 15 MPH speed limit for bikes of any sort. For bike lanes along roads, there's no separate bike speed limit. I have seen radar speed signs and traps on bike trails in the area and have seen bike riders pulled over by rangers for speed violations. Some of the open space areas around here prohibit all manner of e-bikes.
    I'm looking into getting an e-bike, ideally I wanted class 1, but may end up with class 3 (pedal assist only) to get the other features I want. I'm thinking ahead to avoid getting a bike that may some day be prohibited from bike paths, for example. That's why I'm torn between class 1 and 3. I think class 1 would be the more "immune" to being restricted than class 3.

      I called my local pd and they said if I'm doing 20 it's not even legal to stop me to check my bikes specs. So just do 20 when going around town. I live in Sacramento and we have a state park that runs through the town and it's got hundreds of miles of dirt trails.

    • @The4Crawler
      @The4Crawler 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@MrDucksBill Yes, I wouldn't really want to ride faster than 20 in any event. I'm in the SF Bay Area. At least 2 of the county park districts allow e-bikes on trails that allow regular bikes. We also have Open Space Districts and the one around me bans e-bikes on almost all their trails. Some cities, like Palo Alto, have banned e-bikes on unpaved trails in the city.
      Looks like CA state parks have varied e-bike rules, search for "E-Bikes in CA State Parks". Most are Class-1 only, although there are some -2 and -3 allowed. Not sure if the state parks have bike speed limits on trails or not.
      This is one factor pushing me towards a Class-1 e-bike, if only I could find one meeting my needs. I found one, but it uses a Shimano motor, which I've heard has poor serviceability compared to Bosch. All the Bosch motor bikes I've found that are interesting seem to be Class-3.

      The law eventually will need to modify class 3 to explicitly allow a throttle up to 15 or 20 mph, as many elderly will need a full 750W motor to run their heavy trikes, and the elderly will have difficulty pedaling up from a complete stop on those heavier e-bikes. This is a matter of safety. If a heavier e-bikes are always hesitating in an intersection, that will make using the e-bike vastly more dangerous. A low-speed throttle is the solution to that.

Nobody gonna stop you unless your being stupid and putting yourself or others in danger. just don't be stupid and you will be fine no cop gonna waste time just to check if your bike is within regulation. These are what I call unenforceable laws that end up only being applied to those who are stupid and deserve it.

    You bring up an excellent point-if we purchased these bikes when they were legal, it doesn’t make sense for them to suddenly declare our purchases illegal. These bikes are expensive, and most of them come with throttles, whether it’s a thumb throttle or a twist throttle. It’s unreasonable to tell someone who spent thousands of dollars on a bike just a few weeks ago that it’s now illegal to own.
    I believe that anyone who bought their bike before 2025 should be fine, as long as they can provide proof of purchase from a dealer. However, I’m unsure how this will apply to preowned bikes. My understanding is that any bike, whether new or preowned, purchased after 2025 will still be subject to the new rules, but bikes purchased before 2025 should remain legal.
    I also suspect that larger companies like Super73, Trek, Electra Giant and many more which produce throttle-equipped bikes, will take legal action. A recall of all bikes sold before 2025 would be impractical and not feasible. Not to mention that California's E bike initiative that grants people $2000 to purchase an E bike has a list of approved E bikes which Rad Power Bikes is an approved bike on the list and they all have thumb throttle. Seems like these lawmakers clearly don't know what they're doing.

What they told me is they are going to sell at class 2 and require a password which is 0000 lol. I bought a Mars 2.0 a year ago & it's labeled Type 2 with a 20 mph sticker from the manufacturer on the eBike. Type 1 & 2 eBikes are not required to have a speedometer so if the cops have a problem with its speed, they can prosecute Heybike as the cops would need a search warrant to inspect my eBike & I have a Right not to be a witness against myself in their investigation of any suspected articulable crime they think was or may be committed. I was questioned by a cop once recently & he had no problem with my eBike having no chain, chain ring or derailleur & using my throttle only to go over 26mph as I don't weigh as much as the testing weight by law so I naturally will exceed the limiter on the eBike. Especially going downhill with no bicycle speed limit if bicycles aren't required to have a working speedometer like in a car.

    As in Australia and Europe all new e bikes sold cannot have a full throttle or achieve above speed limit imposed unless its used for "Off Road" only, Throttle only e bikes without pedals are deemed a vehicle and must be registered for on road use and you will also need a licence. Pedal throttle combination retail sellers will be banned from selling on road e bikes unless throttle has a max speed of 5mph/8kmph which can assist walking the bike due to weight, (it also gets you started). Break the new throttle laws and nothing will happen unless you are involved in a vehicle accident with the e bike.

  • @shakapedia17
    @shakapedia17 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

    The 2025 e-bike law hasn't actually changed much since its 2015 version, just adding a walk mode and prohibiting the sale of noncompliant e-bikes. The language of the law is inconsistent however, - in the e-bike classification section both the 2015 law as well as the 2025 law, class 3 e-bikes appear to be defined as peddle-assist only without any throttle, yet in the new sales prohibition section, an e-bike remains an e-bike if the throttle shuts off at 20 mph. Whatever the law on throttles is, it's somewhat ambiguous for Class 3 bikes, as some interpret the law as a throttle is ok on a Class 3 bike if it shuts off at 20 mph. That would make the most sense due to the fact many Class 3 e-bikes are heavier and would need a throttle assist at starts from a complete stop, more so than Class 2 bikes. If I were establishing the classes, I would explicitly word that into the definition rather than simply leave it ambiguous.

    You are aware arent you that reprogramming the esc is all thats needed to comply right? Even if you bought a super cheap piece of chinesium with a square wave vfd, you can replace it with a pure sine VESC for less than the piece of junk that vomes with almost all evikes, have higher efficience, quieter operation, and you can apply wattage and speed limitations and still ride your brains out legally, many seem to be obsessing over the idea of q speed limit, which is very resonable given bike tires dont meet dot standards, tubes either, and bicycle wheels are not really up to high speed under load. I just hear people complaining they dont want power limits or speed limits, which they dont have to do. Just register and license qs a moped and be free to run the power ypu want at the speeds you want. Also bicycle helmets (the ones that are actually tested and rated are rated assuming a top speed of 20.

But my evike I have to have roles and regulations. I have to bunch of bull c*** It's prejudiced. Against electric bikes, it needs to be one role for every bike to speed limit.Cause if then you put me to speed, then I know I have to go certain miles an hour.With my road bike as well.Because I can go way faster than some of these ebytes.So I just think it's bullshit and I will ride no matter what
