I'm shocked these are still around! My dad used to take me one when I was a kid. Many Offspring and Guns n Roses CDs were bought there from us. Good times
Dang I didn't know you were in the area. I go to that Sam Goody ALL THE TIME
WOW this took me back to the 90s when I was a kids starting around 8 years old riding my bicycle to SAM GOODY the one that was in my town was in one of our local strip mall's I would save up my allowance from cutting grass for the neighbors and go there an buy cassette tapes and VHS tapes I was the little boy you'd see there with long hair sometimes rocking an Aerosmith shirt or a Pioson shirt while listening to my cassette player while looking around at all the cassette tapes and VHS tapes .
Miss Sam Goody. Would always walk down to the one in my area in Miami on Friday nights with my buddies and check out what was new. Always met people there in different sections who liked the same music genres and would conversate and make a friend sometimes. These kids today have no idea what socializing like that is.
Fantastic! Thanks for the history lesson!
This definitely made me miss going to the mall to get whatever hot new single song on cassettes that had come out that week. Lol, I never seemed to have enough money for a whole album.
I was in Ohio in the summer of 2018, went to the Sam Goody in Saint Clairsville and had no idea until a year or two later that that was one of two stores left. Crazy to think about, great video man
The FYE at the West Town Mall in Knoxville TN on the inside has tons of teal and pink neon with Greg old Sam Goody Movie and Music signs up as well as been very dark inside. I think that one from the inside captures a 90’s Sam Goody more than these 2 do even though it lost the Sam Goody branding
Thank you for giving us history lessons and tours because I was clueless that Sam Goody still exists. I prefer Ohio's architectural style of Sam Goody because I remember that specific style and it brought back such priceless memories. In my observation, people in today's society are yearning for record stores, such as Sam Goody and Tower Records. They are missing out on the social connection to discuss music while gathering inside a store. The movie "Empire Records" reminds us all of that fun era.
I agree, that's such a great movie and great example Of how record store culture used to be and also tomorrow is Rex Manning day! 🤣
@@SetsStreetsEats I totally forgot about Rex Manning Day!🤣😂
What a blast from the past! I had no idea there were any Sam Goody stores left, but at least there are two of them and I hope they hold on and make it. The bad thing is they are in a mall, and in a mall with a Dunham sports which usually fill unwanted anchor spots in dead malls. Still there's a lot of us that prefer to have our music, movies and games in physical copies and these stores are a lot of the only places left to have those things.
A hundred years ago, i spent several years creating the signing and displays for 600 SamGoody stores as their Visual Merchandising Director (1998-2003). It was a GREAT time in the music business industry!
Thats very cool!
I remember Sam Goody during alternative music’s “goth” phase. Life size cardboard displays of NIN and Garbage and Orgy. I always went to the pre-owned section and got the deals for $7.98 per LP CD or $5.98 per EP / Single - and I’m not sure if our store was unique with a pre owned area or not.
Thanks for the video.
I used to love Sam Goody back in the day. The one I mainly visited had a storefront exactly like the one shown here. I also find it funny how records are now the “in” thing considering about 35 or so years ago CDs pushed LPs off the shelves and now the exact opposite has happened. One more thing don’t get one of these suitcase style record players they sound terrible and will carve up your records worse than a Thanksgiving turkey.
Man I a little wish they're was still those stores like they used to have some in new jersey
I've heard of this place but never seen one or learned about the history and such thank you for the awesome facts and history lesson and tour it would seem the Oregon location is definitely a bit more media oriented than the Ohio location tho both are really cool to see 😊
Really cool!
My hometown! Does Trevor still work at the St. C. location? He could tell you stories. He worked there a long time. I used to work at the Ohio Valley Mall. (Not at Sam Goody's)
Love that kramer at 7:47
Went to try to get a new album today. Didn't have it. Didn't have a new release rack. Place is a dead zone. Just shut down.
Theres a mcdonalds in lafayette,LA with the red roof.
The gulf south still has a lot of the remnants of how it used to be. Our Pizza Hut still has a buffet with the red stained glass and the hut roof. And Lafayette still has a Popeyes buffet.
