My favourite part of these guest podcasts is when the person gets to talk about their passion. Xisuma about music, Mumbo about photography, Scar about Disney theme parks etc. It just brings me so much joy to hear the passion and excitement in their voices, even when it’s a topic I’m not particularly interested in! There’s something so special and it feels like an honour to get to witness it

YES ! Spot on, i love listening to other peoples interests as well, what they enjoy about it and why they enjoy about it and the deep detail they go into. It's fantastic, i look forward to more hermit podcasts :D

What is the most interesting about X is : he can do nothing halfways. He does things, and everytime, be it minecraft, content creation, his health, music, he gets deep into it and becomes sort of an expert. It's the core of real passion I guess : the need to know, understand and acquire things completely. Not just loving stuff, but becoming one with one's passion subject.

Yes, and it is intentional, as he said in part 1. He chose, one day, to get intentional, particularly about being creative. That mindfulness has clearly followed into everything he does. ❤

He reminds me a lot of a good friend of mine, who acts the same and is so passionate that he kind of gets obsessed with things. In 2020 he started playing chess, soon he wouldn't stop talking about it and asked to play in every occasion. By now he has read a dozen of books, watched hundreds of matches on YT and Twitch, created a chess club at our university and started playing tournaments. At first I played with him everytime we met, but after some months I didn't have a chance anymore :D

Especially skizz’s interest to learn about another person is helping making this podcast great in my opinion.
Not neglecting impulse of course, they are a whole package. But I just love skiz’s mentality.

Man I love X. Over the years he’s become one of my standby comfort channels. More than that, the way he interacts with, talk to, and about people has lead to him being someone that I just genuinely have a huge amount of respect for and admiration of his character. The amount of grace and thoughtfulness he gives to other people has taught me a lot.
He’s a good content creator, but he’s an even better person.

42:00 As someone who has struggled very severely with depression and is now doing much better; there is so much truth to this. When I first started going to therapy the first thing my therapist asked was whether I was exercising regularly. I thought it was a dumb first question but over the months he got me to start exercising and it was practically night and day how I lived life and perceived the world. I wasn't immediately cured and I sure wasn't happy for a while but all of a sudden things seemed possible. Depression isn't really something that ever goes away let me tell you, but exercising and eating better is so much bigger than some people give it credit within the mental health space.

I’m 18 and currently in a rock band. We started giging over the summer and we played a show almost every weekend. We play classic rock like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. This band is the best thing to every happen to me. I’ve always loved music because it helped me through a tough childhood. Being able to play with my best friends and just enjoy life is so incredible. I’m having the best time of my life and I’m so thankful for the music. Keep rocking 🤘

I found a tiktok talking about how for helping to bring habits into your routine if you've really fallen out of them or if you're dealing with adhd, setting up a red, yellow, green light system can be helpful. Like red day is the bare minimum, yellow a bit more, and green would be like your ideal goal. It goes along with talking about how sometimes with working out you just have to do something small even to just do it.
this has been such a good one and very interesting =)

I'm a Metalhead and have a huge passion for Music and I can't tell you how excited I was the very first time I learned that some of the Hermits such as Ren, Xisuma, and Doc were into that genre too, being big into Horror and Metal I kind of feel alone a lot of the time, majority of the time people have either a negative reaction, or say something passive aggressive like "Well I guess everyone has something weird they enjoy" or something like that
It was just comforting to know not alone in the Minecraft/Hermitcraft Community with my other Passions

My epiphany was, "I don't care" translates to "I have no control of this situation." Don't ask me how I got this from your chat with X... But I did. Oh, and I looked up the Hermit Gang Rap song which was fantastic.

I can relate to the exercise and mental health bigtime!!! 2012 I was diagnosed with depression by a VA hospital in my area. It was bad enough that I ended up in the emergency room. After spending about a year on meds, I'd had enough and I started running a few times a week. Not really keen on running, but I liked how it made me feel. I finally felt like I was able to stop the meds and I took myself off of them and kept up with the running. In 2016 I ran my first and only half marathon. I really learned a lot just from training for it. It also helped me remember how well I can push myself. It boosted my mental health tremendously!

Also, maybe a topic for another podcast: how can one with chronic pain start an exercise regime. I don't mean to replace general practitioners or specialists who are in a better place to give this type of advice. However, as a person with chronic pain, it's actually hurtful, when I hear some people say, "just exercise and eat right and you will be healthy." And, yes, I was born with an autoimmune disease that later turned into chronic pain. Granted, I finally had surgery done by a specialist and have been mostly pain free these past 2 years. Asking for a friend, of couse.

Awesome having X on for a Double Episode!! What I love about his discussions when streaming or interacting with chatters is that he is always open to different view points on a topic and welcomes hearing someone explain a viewpoint that he might not share! Even when the topic is Controversial or a sensitive or emotional topic, X is willing to have a discussion about it and always does his best to make sure everyone's point of view is heard and understood and that the topic doesn't become too heated or out of control. He can manage to express things in a way that people can understand and do it in a way that helps people stay open minded and calm enough so that we all can learn about both sides

x is such a cool guy. i am really loving these interviews with the hermits, minecrafters who a lot of the time don’t get the opportunity to really share their passions and personality outside of their content creator character. i’m genuinely hoping we get interviews with every single hermit someday! and possibly even some other creators who don’t get interviewed as often as a lot of the big names in the space. stuff like this makes me really appreciate this community even more and i’m very proud to support such insightful and genuine creators.

'It's like I have two brains'... I felt like this for 40 years, and regularly watched films and listened to music whilst I did other stuff. A friend of mine was very similar. He has had his ADHD diagnosis, and I'm going for an assessment soon. Back when we were younger diagnoses were not really done, and a lot of us went through life struggling to find our way like this. Doesn't matter in the long run, but it did mean we had to find our way in a world that wasn't built for us.

Hearing that X and Skizz wrote poetry and sometimes using that to cope is just a relief for me kind of, because I also do that and a lot of people around me hate to hear about the creative side you can show while writing. I look up to especially Xisuma so just hearing he kind of had the same childhood as that I am still going through really just also gives me an image of how it can get better, and that it's okay that my childhood is like this. It is also nice to just hear about how much I think all of the hermits and their friends, care about their community.

“Humans were never meant to communicate through lines of text”
This is something that I’ve thought about for a while from a scholarly perspective, & it’s been fun to try to figure out how to communicate tone & other kinds of subtext through text; it’s a shame that we don’t have a universal way to express more than just the words through text
Also combined with Skizz’s comment on us being in our adolescence in text communication makes me want to overhaul the Roman alphabet to include some sort of indicators of the various kinds of subtext that come across in human communication
I have a lot more to say, you guys mixed well with Xsuma & gave me a lot to think about, & sadly I don’t have the brainpower to formulate my thoughts, nor the space to communicate them here
Anyway, cheers to a good two parter & an amazing guest, I’m excited to see what comes next

Something that helps for reading comments that may be negative or come off as negative: Assume the best in others, their conduct/words reflects on them and not you, so long as you’re having fun and do your best what else is there to do? You all do incredible work and are only human. It’s the type of people that you are that makes us love y’all. Okay, but...Do. You. Even. Motörhead. Love listening to you guys talk about music. I think especially in the '80s and '90s, anything considered "mainstream" was looked upon with scorn by a lot of us, only to realize later that we missed some really great music. We've all been there guys, lol.

Xisuma is definitely an incredibly inspiring figure. I especially admire his sense of optimism and faith in people. Admittedly, it's not something I share to the same degree, but I know I'd be happier day-to-day if I saw the world that way. Thanks for an inspiring and fascinating podcast!

X talking about his music experiences kind of parallels my own journey and evolution in appreciating music. It took me really getting into the depths of death metal to turn around and start appreciating different genres, especially genres I thought I hated - rap being a huge one in particular. Like with death metal, I initially didn't care much for much extreme metal (especially death metal) for much of my youth, but once I found a particular band that clicked and bridged the gap - I started hearing the whole genre differently and was able to start to see things like "hey, I see what they're going for here, and what's so rad about this or that" and it flipped my mindset completely and translated naturally to other styles of music. It definitely speaks to the point where that feeling of "this is a view, or reflection of someone else's experience, or another community's spirit" that X brought up 20ish min in. Also, gotta say, had a good laugh at the Iron Maiden story - that's such a metalhead experience hahaha

I wanna share my musical experience for a bit even though no one will read this. I started playing trombone in 4th grade when I was 9. I was in love with it. I played through middle school and high school. Then came uni. I was rejected from the marching band. My world came crashing down, and I am not exaggerating. I had a full on meltdown in my car. I wanted to talk to the directors to see where I went wrong. That went way differently from what I had expected. Instead of that, they offered me a position in the tuba section because someone had quit. I obviously took it, but my life was altered forever. I was learning on the fly, so I was at the bottom on the ladder. I only did 3 halftime shows and 0 pregame shows for that entire season. My musical confidence was wrecked from that point on and even to this day. What hurt even worse is that we went to the national championship and won. I couldn't shake the feeling that it all felt like a cruel joke. Here I am, experiencing something only one band experiences per year, and it's on an instrument that I don't even like. Don't get me wrong, it was an amazing experience, but it was not like it should have been. For my second season, which was during covid, I re-auditioned on tuba, but I just didn't emotionally take it seriously. I still put in all my effort, but it felt wasted. My third year, I went back to trombone where I belonged, and I made it. I put on a façade of confidence, but I was terrified. I don't think I slept through all of band camp. That season had a few residual covid elements, but it was largely back to normal. I did all but one halftime show (I was sick), and I did a few pregame shows, and I got priority on pep band away games. That felt like a bit of a peak though. The next year, I was again terrified of the audition process, and I got landed as an alternate, which was annoying for a lot of reasons. Alternates have the chance to challenge someone to be in the show, which I did, and I got into the first show. The system was stupid though, and we had to challenge for every show. I ended up missing out on three shows in total that year. Now here's my totally messed up fifth year. I audition again, and get placed as an alternate again. I was so upset. They didn't let us challenge for the first show because it was an away game. Someone was sick, but the section leaders put someone else in the spot. I challenged for the second show and won a spot, but, throughout the season, I was challenged several times. It was clear that no one thought I was worthy of my halftime and pregame spots. Toward the end of the season, I lost my pregame spot, so I missed out on a home game pregame show. I was in the next one, but that was more screwed up than it seems on its face. I had challenged someone and won, but that effectively got negated by the fact that someone was out sick, and they put me in her spot. I didn't get to keep the spot I won for my final show at the bowl game. One of the section leaders tried to say "I know what it's like not to be in pregame" but that did not matter to me at all. She didn't know what I had been through emotionally. For most of my time in that band, I did not feel like I was respected as a musician. I know I wasn't a full time musician, but I was still passionate about it. I don't think any other fifth year would get challenged 5 times.
I have now since graduated, and I ended up joining my city's community band. It's not a professional symphony orchestra or anything like that, but it's still a group of relatively skilled musicians. I finally feel like I'm being respected for my abilities. The section leader had me on 2nd part for our first concert and has asked me to play first for the Christmas concert. People actually want to see me at rehearsals. I feel like no one could care less if I had been at marching band rehearsals or games aside from maybe two or three people. I've been an outcast for so much of my life. Even now, I don't think that many people care that I exist. I feel like I could post a truncated version of this on a more personal social media platform, and no one outside of my family would give a crap. If anyone has read this, thanks for listening to my story.

You were talking about the Hermit Minecraft Rap. Loved that song too.
A while back I finally got the Relic Disc and just loved the song/music so much, I felt it needed more. So I wrote some words to it. About finding relic discs in trail ruins. Now, every time I hear the music, I have a song to sing.
Edit: It was fun to make the lyrics to it, just as it was for you and the rap.

Hey Imp or Skizz, have you considered bringing video to the Spotify podcasts? The other podcasts I listen to at work have adopted it, and I have found I rather like having the video from spotify playing in the background while I work. And I prefer spotify as a platform to queue all my weekly episodes over TH-cam, for my reasoning listening there rather than here. Thanks for considering!
