Turns out, somebody actually demonstrated that FM instruments can be pretty faithfully recreated as samples on actual SNES hardware, using Chemical Plant Zone. th-cam.com/video/Au_CTlKU_7o/w-d-xo.html And recently, there was another recreation of the tune on SNES hardware, this time with different instruments: th-cam.com/video/BX9wx5QpjRM/w-d-xo.html I thought you might like these.
@@AmaroqStarwind Hi dude I've actually seen quite a few of these recreations, there even some for Streets of Rage 2 which is crazy considering how many different instrument patches that game has. While I found these super impressive, I'm not a huge fan of sampling FM synth patches into a sample based soundchip. you lose alot of the qualities that the original YM2612 had. I feel like you might aswell go all out and make it sound like a SNES game from a specific composer or company like Square/Capcom/Konami as its more nostalgic.
I'll spare you the TerminalMontage comment and say I really just adore this mix. I wish this was the original song. It's so clean and smooth. Like silky chocolate in soundwaves.
I think Genesis sounds more like a weird electronic music in most games. SNES can actually sound like any music, Spiderman Maximum Carnage sounds like real heavy metal; Super Adventure Island sounds like real 90's hip hop. Super Robot Wars 3 (SNES) ost sound very close to a 80's anime. Chrono Trigger another example of orquestra be like music. Super puyo puyo was an example of SNES "emulating" SEGA Genesis sound.
Admit it, you are here because of 'Something About Sonic The Hedgehog'! Well I knew this existed way before then, I am four parallel universes ahead of you.
Well, there are Super Mario World styled remixes to the whole Sonic 1 Soundtrack, which I think is neat, but it would take a long time to port Sonic 1 onto the SNES.
I don't think emulation is a good description, the Ym2612 is a synthesizer producing those sounds live. the SNES is just sampling FM instruments rather than creating them from its own soundchip

Nice job. This doesn't sound like a SNES at all. It sounds like a GBA. That's what I like about it. You just earned a like.
@Super Michael 2003 Stealth did.
The soundfonts for both consoles sound very similar. SNES’s is more clear than the GBA’s.
@@Corgiponthe systems don't have soundfonts... the samples used are individual to each game

Someone should have ported Sonic 1 to the SNES by now. Why hasn't it happened?
Ikr?!
Now that tech has evolved and thanks to the MSU-1 chip, it should be possible now.
Because game development is hard, especially on legacy systems like this.
Because SNES doesn't have BLAST PROCESSING!!1! :P
