i met john lydon on a flight back from LA to London. He is a performer. That is why he is in the business. He is actually a nice bloke. No bullshit. Sometimes in real life, the so called "nice guys" are really not the nicest. Sometimes the guys who play the meanest, and most intimidating people are really nice. Point is, don't judge a book by its cover. If you can find it, The Filth and The Fury (2000) is a Documentary film, has John Lydon, speaking from his heart, emotionally, explaining that he wish he could have stopped Sid from his ultimate self destruction and demise. Here you have a true friend speaking compassionately about the guilt he feels that he let Sid down. Very touching. There are also a wonderful shot of when the Sex Pistols hosted a Christmas Party for underprivileged children, and the smiles that they brought to these wonderful kids, by handing out presents and cake. Guess who else was smiling, but the bigger kids, The Sex Pistols. So yes, cover blown, the Sex Pistols, and John Lydon are nice guys. :)
