Beachcombing - Spaghetti Monster

Spaghetti Monsters have been washing up this past week. We’ve had several reports of eyeball looking creatures being found along the water line on Mustang Island. These jellyfish are not true jellyfish, but are siphonophores, like the Portuguese Man o’ War, which is a colony of animals living together as one. This spaghetti monster, also called thread jellies, have a scientific name of Rhizophysa. The gas filled float at the top looks like an eyeball at first glance, with long tentacles below. Ugh jellies. Vinegar is great and also a razor to remove the nematocysts. The worst part imo is the itch a week later.

LINDA. Let me tell you about many years back when i was 12 or 13 my friend who did not know about the man'o'war threw one onto my neck and it go stuck in part of my shirt so it took a lot of flailing to get it off initially. The tentacles stung me all over my neck, chest, and back. I still have scars till this day that are very visible when i take off my shirt and it's bright out. The pain was BLINDING for a day or two i was so high off painkillers.
They are not to be messed with! Like many things the prettiest of things are the most dangerous.
