On behalf of all the cats & kittens that participated in the creation of this labor of love for our brother, Jef, I say THANK YOU to each and every one of you for listening, digging and purchasing the single! Jef Lee Johnson was the absolute truth on so many levels much in the same way that 24-7 Spyz remains true to making real music for real people with real hearts and real ears. Rick Skatore, Ronny Drayton & I chose this track as the way to begin our journey returning to the art of making music again because it came from the purest place possible. Our hearts. And the same went for our brothers Lenny White, Chico Huff, Eddie Martinez, Vernon Reid & Jesse Johnson, who joined us on the track celebrating Jef through their absolutely brilliant and kick ass performances! Because of all the love I've received since the release of this track, I was once again reminded that making the music that matters to us STILL matters to MANY people and as Spyz continues on the journey of making new music with the line up of Jimi Hazel, Rick Skatore, Ronny "Head" Drayton & Phillip "Fish" Fisher, I hope that the brotherhood forged with this track finds us collaborating on many, many more musical endeavors! Magic got made and the messages I received from listeners all over the world today confirmed that. More music will come from 24-7 Spyz, that is a promise! And in a strange, beautiful and bittersweet way, Jef Lee Johnson is the one to thank for that! He's smiling down right now, flashing that sly, all knowing grin of his and that means more to me than anyone could ever imagine! The people are listening and we're just getting started! HMS4L! JH
Jimi Hazel bring on the new Spyz! Been too long. true musicians like yourself and those involved in a project such as this where its a labor of love not money are what keeps rock, jazz, blues, funk...you name it, alive and kicking today.
🎼"...took a little nap, woke up in the jungle..." uh, um...I jus' moved back Home to Manhattan, yep, after last year, watch it...feelin' it now, a lot & you all sound great, thanks yo's, much love, Fox🌬💨🔥🎵🔥🎶🪄✨🕶
This was a true, deep, heart felt, love in the room, funky, hard, in your face, mello, chilled out, soul in the hole piece of art. MAN! I WENT TO SCHOOL! Thank you Fam!
When i was 16 years old in Switzerland as a Record dealer i discover you all !!! ... So Fucking good and awesome to listen to it now 30 years after. ... You make my final 2017 week ! Thank's !! God Bless you ! Jef ... Peace on you ...Rest in musical peace and freedom
Damned. I m here again. The third time in 24/7 ... uh 24 hours ... (seen 24/7 in the LOFT in Schöneberg/Berlin around 1990/91 - shortly after a record shop had suggested your CD to me - was great!) this track and video has so much passion and ... ... ... (words never manage to describe music) ... will listen to the explanation now greetinx from Portugal! ✌
I cannot tell you the number of times I have watched this...gives me CHILLS each time!!! Just wonderfully created by some awesome musicians who truly have not received the recognition that they deserve.
Thank you for doing this ! I'm big fan of Jef lee ,Got into him when he tour with George Duke .I would see him in passing .They would get off the plane as we were getting on the plane .One day my keyboard player said she loved Jef Lee Johnson and he was her favorite Guitarist and have I heard him . Wow I better investigate . Been a fan ever since . This is a great tribute !
Saw you guys in Boise years ago for the Harder Than You tour. Never will forget that gig! My friends band opened, then Nirvana, then Spyz. Rick sat at the table with my guitar player and I while the other bands played. One hell of a concert!
Yeah man! One of the bands coming out of the funk/rock/metal explosion of the late eighties, early nineties. I never did get to see them in a live setting but if they do still tour, i would gladly go and support them. Excellent!
Jimi, this is a totally awesome tribute to Jef!!! You guys killed it!!! My cousin, Sharkey, introduced me to Jef Lee Johnson's music. That cat is amazing!!! Thanks for posting this to my Facebook page!!! : )
Wow listening again to this today, I'm completely blown away! This is head and shoulders above most of the music I'm hearing today! @jimi hazel, any chance of a full album with Vernon Reid like this??
Much respect to the late Jef Lee Johnson and all here who felt what he put down while he was here. The love is heavy here Jimi Hazel. Thank you Brother.
hi Jimi, i am studying your sustain-tremo technique. it is amazing. the blend of a high gain sustain with slight movements of the trem bar is just the coolest sound and you do it better than anyone. back in the day i was in a Detroit based band and we used to cover a few Spyz tunes. i always loved it when our singer would say 'we're going to play a little Jimi for ya'. yeah, John Connelly was on it's way. ha. well, keep the faith. I love to study how great players approach things. i am also studying the Dennis Coffey wah technique. it's all good. peace to you Jimi. rock on.
Omg im fan ing out that u replied! Ur music still resonates soo much! And rocks so effing hard! My kids know all ur songs.. Saw u in hollywood a loooong time ago w primus! Epic show... me & the homies still talkin bout it! Bless y'all and THANK U! RASTAFARI!!
Mean, Mean track. Done in my neck of the woods (well I'm from Da Bronx, Da Boogie Down). Grew up from HS til now listening to 24/7. Love all the love and heart put it and the single note rhythm is beast!!! And the ending is the same. Jimi, you took a pic with myself and cousin at the Kings X concert in Oct of 2014 in NYC. You are true gent. HMS4L
Jimmy its GREAT to see you guyz back, even though under sad circumstances... Your music, energy and your sincere pursuit of your craft - doing it for the love of it and not the money first - have inspired me (I do photography) ever since I first saw you guys playing gigs in Hoboken countless years ago... I lost track of your progress over time but now I am blessed to see you still have the musical edge, now with the best production values!! May God Bless you, the new crew of 24-7, Burnin' Vernon and all the members of the BRC who gave us a voice years ago when few in the Music Industry would listen to us - THANK YOU!!
No...REALLY?!?!?! THIS is the kind of stuff that Grammy's, BET Awards, heck even Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards should be given to!!! Life Music right there. Much respect to you all lending your God given talent to this track. R.I.P. Jef. Thanks, Jimi!
Yo. Never guess how/why I found my way to this clip ... since some days I had (no clue why) the spoken line "they say NO JUGGER BUGGY" (or was it "Jungle Boogie"? help!!) in my mind ... finally felt I remembered it was from SPYCE ... dont know from which CD ... lost them all ... saw YOU 1990 in Berlin in the LOFT ... think I remember the drummer spitting water on his cymbals in sync with hitting them ... greeeeeat gig! cool to see the guys still on it! ;-)
Hi Jimi it's Igor (the fan from the 90's maybe you remember?), well the song for "Jef" is absolutely amazing! All guitars sounds great. I'm waiting for the new Spyz album... Cheers

Been a fan since I scored the Harder Than You cassette. Remember back in the day in '96 or '97 or so seeing you guys playing at a little club in Florida, supporting the Heavy Metal Soul By The Pound album. You guys tore that shit up like it was Madison Square Garden, though.... heavy-ass rocking, and astounded me personally with your guitar playing. Furthermore, you guys were cool as can be to my buddy Billy and me, just talking shit and hanging with us. Soundtrack To the Innermost Galaxy is an amazing album, and intensely personal and profoundly open. Good stuff. Thanks for all the years of great music. Keep up the good work, and God bless.
If I had a regret? 🤔 For discovering you only this year, since you joined my listening with Mother's Finest, Living Color and the frenchies F.F.F, friendly from France! 🤘
