The Mk3 is probably the best coach produced for the UK railway network. Despite that, costs were cut originally - BR intended for them to all have external automatic sliding doors and retention toilets as standard. While Ireland was the only international customer for new Mk3 coaches back then, you can now find post withdrawal Mk3 + HST sets exported to Nigeria and Mexico.
Not sure if you mentioned it, but the 'Silver' sets were originally refurbished for the short-lived "Wrexham and Shropshire" open-access service that ran between 2008 and 2011. Unfortunately just as they received the sets they ceased operating. Chiltern later refitted the power doors.
6:59 Little correction: The REAL Class 82 is a 1960s ere electric locomotive; DVTs have no class number as they are not locomotives or MUs. Calling a DVT a Class 82 is like calling a HST MK3 buffet coach a Class 40. Also, it's InterCity 125 (Class 43+MK3s+43) and InterCity 225 (Class 91+MK4s+MK4 DVT). Class 125s are 1960s era First Generation DMUs that have all been scrapped, Class 225s never existed although, being in the 2XX number range, they'd be diesel-electric multiple units (bit like Voyagers)
I would love to see a collab between you and Patrick Shea. I love both of your trip reporting styles one for aviation (him) and the yours for aviation + train reports. Great video again!
Nice to see you take a trip from my home town. The class 68 loco is arguably the rail enthusiast's favourite of modern trains. It's a shame to see the coaching stock in poor condition. Have a great Christmas.
Marylebone looks nothing like the other London terminus stations… more like something from a country town. Also…. I’m pretty sure it’s the only non electrified one which is kinda interesting 🤔🙂
Yeah, the thing with the Mark 3's is that they spent a part of their lives on the either West Coast Mainline between London Euston and Birmingham New Street, Shrewsbury, Holyhead Manchester Piccadilly, Liverpool Lime Street, Blackpool and Glasgow Central, or the Great Eastern Mainline Between London Liverpool Street and Norwich. (Harwich International?, They ever run there?). The East Coast Trains you're thinking of are the Mark 4's, some are still been used by LNER between Bradford/Leeds and London Kings Cross, and Transport for Wales between Cardiff and Holyhead or Swansea and Manchester Piccadilly.
I’ve always loved travelling on loco-hauled stock in the UK and the Mark 3s are very comfortable. The Chiltern silver set was fitted out with style .. it’s a pity that they haven’t been as well maintained as they should be and that catering is no longer provided. Hope you enjoyed your time in the UK! 😊
They are over 30 years old now and Chiltern only gained them as a mere temporary measure in 2012, so they've done quite well on that measure. Also, Chiltern are going to remove these sets in 2024/5 so that's why they haven't been hugely maintained recently.
slight corrections on the locomotives section: 1. DVT's are not "Class 82s" since they are not locos, just cab cars. 2. Intercity 225 trainsets used Mk4 Coaches and Mk4 DVTs unlike the MK3 stock shown in the video 3. The Intercity 225 is again not a "Class 225", the loco is a Class 91 4. Again, the Intercity 125 is not a "class" IC125 trainsets use class 43 power cars and Mk3 coaches These are common misconceptions, general rule is in the UK, "Class ___" is used for locomotives or multiple units, coaching stock dont have class numbers.
Despite the downgrading Chiltern remain one of the better operators in the UK. Only just found your channel and am working my way through your US and Canadian trips. Looking forward to some more trips in Europe?
Chiltern is definitely one of the better operators I rode with while in the UK. And I’m hoping to make more videos from around Europe! My job should have me visiting Europe a couple times in the next year, so I’m hoping to snag a few videos then, plus I’ll plan a larger trip on my own time to gather footage. Glad you enjoy the content!
Yup! We’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming in the new year. The first video of 2024 will be a first class flight in one of Delta’s Delta One suites from ATL to LAX.
@@LonestarTrips Aw man, I enjoy them just as much as your other videos! I do get that you're not surprised by the fewer views but less than 1k views in over 10 hours seems a bit too out of the ordinary for your channel.
Yeah it’s a bit strange for sure. Not sure what’s up, but the algorithm does as it pleases. As annoying as it is, it’s not gonna discourage me from making more videos 😊
Next week was supposed to be the 20k Q&A, but due to some audio issues, I wasn’t able to record it while on my travels last week. I haven’t had time since I got back to record it, and since I leave tomorrow for Christmas vacation, I’ll be taking next week off. I’ll make a post about everything tomorrow.

The cushy chairs look quite comforatble and the grey upholstery is very attractive.

Loco hauled trains are becoming very rare here in the uk… I should try and ride this while it’s still here. 👍

@@Vanmanyo Ah, makes sense. I travelled on them back in 2012, so still pristine back then.

Gotcha, thanks for the helpful information. I’m not familiar with UK rolling stock, so I was bound to make a few mistakes.

Silver Sets aren't going to be refurbed, they are due ti be withdrawn in the next few years
are the class 68 timetables published anywhere? or do we just have to hope we get a class 68
Realtime trains is probably your best guess .
10:02 did you forget to mention what’s coming up next week?
it usually means something big is coming up, a 20k special the qna or the silver star maybe
Any video next week

I don’t think so? My UK content has never done particularly well, so I’m not surprised it’s getting fewer views.
