The lobster buoy hitch is a nice strong knot. It is knot #1714 in the Ashley Book of Knots (ABoK). Although one would expect this hitch to be used in lobster fishing Ashley makes no mention of it. Ashley encourages us to compare it to the buntline hitch which has a clove hitch tied around its standing part. The lobster buoy hitch has a lark's head knot or cow hitch tied around its standing part.

I did that ass backwards and still kind of made it, just not so neat looking. Then again I'm using a shoelace and I'm left handed.
