So glad I watched your video! For me it is the gem of foiling information because you are straightforward and kept to the subject matter. I have watched many videos from other crafters that are very good and helpful but sometimes they talk about “other stuff” that I get lost and have to constantly rewind to grasp what I need to learn. I thought yours was exceptionally wonderful and have subscribed because I like your method. Great teacher. Thank you for sharing your time and knowledge.
Have just come across your video as I’m investigating whether to get involved in hot foiling. Your video is so clear and informative and totally what I needed. Thank you so very much Carissa. Love from Stella in the UK
Wow! I just watched your video..and audibly gasped at your beautiful golden die cut leaves! I need to buy a hot foil machine now! Thanks from northern Portugal 🇵🇹!!
So, I was watching Laura Bassen’s video this morning and she used the Gemini hot foil press and so I looked it up. While I was looking at it, this video came on. It’s a sign! Lol! I know what I’m asking for for Mother’s Day.
This was so helpful - thank you. I've been refusing to consider foiling due to space and budget restraints, but your video pushed me off the fence and I'm going to make it work. Ha. Off to shop!
I am so glad I came across your video on foiling! I am trying to learn how to do this with my new Gemini Foil Press and was so confused. After watching your video, you cleared a lot of the confusion for me. Thank you so much!
Thank you for this video. I was interested in a hot foil machine but have the Gemini and notice a lot of people were using Spellbinders. I didn't want to get another die cut machine just for the hot foil machine. But after some Google searching i have found that Gemini has a hot foil machine and PinkFresh Studio has a video on how to use it. Thank you so much. Now I need to make my purchase.
Wow I finally got the foiling thank you so much for explaining it so detailed I can finally understand it and for the tip that we can foil our regular dies. Awesome video. Love the comparison of both systems. I went with the spellbinders glimmer.
I know this video is older so I don't even think you'll see this comment, but: I really love and appreciate the way you explain things. You're very informative but at the same time your tone is very reassuring, instilling confidence in the listener/viewer! Thank you so much for this! ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for the comparisons and the instructions. I just got a Gemini Foil Press and didn’t know ho long or what heat setting to use and your tips helped me so much. I’m so excited to get started.❤️ PS love how your nail color matched the card stock.
Fabulous video Carissa and so timely. I’ve decided on the Gemini foil press machine. As soon as I get customer invoices sent and payments coming in, I’ll be shipping for the Gemini. Thank you for the detailed comparison of the products.
Thanks Carissa! I appreciate the direct comparison between the two foiling systems plus the demonstration of using a die to apply the foil to card stock 😍
Thanks so much for a terrific tutorial on both hot foil systems! I've really been on the fence about investing in one. I love the look you get, but thought to myself, do I really want to invest in another pricier system? However after watching this video, seeing all the additional things you can do with it, I've made up my mind to invest in one! You made some really lovely samples today!
Those cards are so pretty. Thanks so much for this Carissa. I'm still learning. I have both systems but feel more comfortable and so far getting better results with the gemini foil press. I must say I've had the foil press much longer and have a much better feel for the machine so it's probably not fair to say it's better but I do get a better foiling with it with less over foiling.
I agree that the hot foil takes everything to the “next” level. It certainly is worth learning a new technique for the elegance it can give to a project!
Great video! I appreciate the side-by-side comparison of the two hot foiling systems. I own the Spellbinders Glimmer system and really struggle with the over foiling....it looks like the Gemini system is the machine I should have purchased 😞 I also appreciate that you showed how to foil with regular dies, but was confused why they didn’t cut when you ran them through the die cut machines. I assumed an embossing pad would be needed to prevent cutting the cardstock. Thanks Carissa!
I don’t have a hot foil system yet…you’ve answered some of my questions especially if you could use regular dies as well. Still not sure which i want, but i think I’m leaning towards the gemini but I’d have to buy the gemini jr as well.
I actually own the CC Foilpress with both platforms since they came out with a larger size platform afterwards to go with my Gemini Jr. and Gemini. I just purchased the Spellbinders Platinum 6 die cutting machine and found the Glimmer Hot Foiling system marked down at Hobby Lobby so I had to purchase it saving $45. Figured I have the new die cutting machine plus I own the Tim Holtz Vagabond machine both compatible with the Glimmer. Also, Spellbinders has way more hot foiling plates to choose from than Crafters Companion. Crafters Companion states their foil was specifically produced to work with their machine so, I would buy both brands of foils. Love my CC Foil machine but have yet to try the Glimmer. I have never tried the Spellbinders foil plates on my CC Foilpress yet either. I do love that CC dies have foil plates that also die cut as well.
@@carissawiley I have the cuttlebug (lol) - so I don't even know if either could work. I think I would have to buy a new die cut machine along with the foil system!
I have tried and tried to foil on to a paper die cut as you demonstrated and I still can’t get a clean solid foil. I am using the Gemini metal plate and the Spellbinders platinum die cut machine. Any suggestions?
Hi Carissa, You and I have the identical engagement ring. I've never seen anyone else with it. Companies must be bringing that design back since my ring is 33 years old and your a young chick! lol
You could use the solid glimmer plate. I have noticed that my Spellbinder likes it ran forward and then backwards without an extra cardstock. It keeps mine from over foiling, but my friend's machine likes it with an extra cardstock.
I had watched a video that showed how to get larger lines using a certain paper over the die. Do you know how to do that? Some of the dies have such thin cutting lines and if we could get the foil to show up larger it would be great. I do not know what video it was or the paper, thought maybe you would know the process. Thank you so much for the wonderful information.

Of all the FOILING videos I have watched yours BY FAR is the BEST. You cover everything! Great Video

The overfoiling is because the Gemini paper Foil works at a lower heat. The Spellbinders system & foil works on a higher heat setting.
Good to know. I bet you could adjust the time you leave the plates on and avoid some of that.
Which system do you use? If you have the spellbinder in for a shorter time does it foil better?
Wow I finally got the foiling thank you so much for explaining it so detailed I can finally understand it and for the tip that we can foil our regular dies. Awesome video. Love the comparison of both systems. I went with the spellbinders glimmer.

Very, very informative! Thank you, Carissa!
Thank you for watching! ❤️
Great video, Carissa. You answered questions that I had and gave me a little more confidence to hot foil.
Wonderful, informative video that I’m sure I will refer to often. So excited for the new Pinkfresh release tomorrow!!!
Most helpful. I had been wondering for some time about a hot foil glimmer system. Thank you. x
Thank you so much for this video. You have answered my questions regarding these two foiling systems.
Carissa, that was the best explanation for foiling. Your explanations made it so simple and easy to follow.
I can’t wait to try these techniques.

I had no idea that's what that metal plate with the gemini was for! I am so excited to play with that for my platinum machine! Thank you so much!
I think it is a wonderful comprehensive video i never know what to do with all the leftovers can you share your thoughts
Great video, thank you, I have been trying to decide which machine to get.
Great job Carissa! Thank you!! I own the Spellbinders Hot Foil Machine and I learned a few tricks from this video. 🙌🏼👏🏼💕

😊 There’s not as much pressure with the foil platforms, so the blade doesn’t cut. It’s more of a kiss of the surface.
I wondered the same thing, why the die didn't cut, so thank you both for asking and answering this question 💖
I have
Fabulous video! Wonderful tips and ideas for hot foiling. Beautiful cards too ;)
Wow thank you so much, great video! I'll be watching this a few times so I can really pay attention and take notes.

I’d recommend the couture creations machine. Easy to use and works with the sizzix big shot..
Honestly my preference is the Gemini but I know others who prefer the Glimmer.

Hi does the Gemini hot foil press work with the big Gemini die cutting machine
Beautiful!
What type of card stock do you use. I am having issues with the foiling plates cutting my paper . Using Gemini and Gemini foil press system.
I have a regular Gemini, do i need the jr. for the heat press to work?
My question is can you use the glimmer one with stampin up new die cut machine? Does anyone know?
Thanks for this video! I need a hot foil system :) Which do you prefer? I can't decide!
My preference is the Gemini. But I know others who prefer the Glimmer. Which die cut machine do you have?
@@carissawiley I have the cuttlebug (lol) - so I don't even know if either could work. I think I would have to buy a new die cut machine along with the foil system!
Can you use the glimmer plates/shims in the Gemini junior?
We think it’s best if you check with the manufacturer of the machine and plate because we don’t want to answer it incorrectly.
Thank you

My ring is nearly 21 years old! 😉
@@carissawiley Oh wow, you're still a young chick!
Awesome video! Is there a way to foil on the glimmer machine without the foil plate like the Gemini?
You would have to experiment...but I’m sure it’s possible.
You could use the solid glimmer plate. I have noticed that my Spellbinder likes it ran forward and then backwards without an extra cardstock. It keeps mine from over foiling, but my friend's machine likes it with an extra cardstock.
Great job 👍🏽
Good job!
why do you prefer gemini over glimmer?
What if I have an electronic machine. Can I go slow enough?
I have the glimmer machine and a vagabond

Does the Gemini foil press work with the full size Gemini?
I would like to know the answer to that as well. As I have the full size genini. Did you ever find out?
@@brucegordon405 I haven’t gotten a response yet. I’ve been looking around I think that it is.
I read that it only works with the junior. I have the big one.
It does work with the full size Gemini, but you need to get the top plate extender
I have the larger Gemini die cut machine. Can I use the Gemini hot foil machine with this or a sizzix
