    @MINGTHEBING I can understand if people want to stop spinning pencils but metallic comssa and bictory are just fine for learning other tricks. I spun a bictory for 10 months or so and look how I turned out. I always recommend staying with beginner mods for as long as possible. Waterfall mod is awesome but I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner. For me, I'd give it a 10/10. Not too heavy (for me), good length, balanced, feels nice.

    i can really recommend the Waterfall Mods, as soon as you've learned the basics. It can perform nearly all tricks while staying realtively light (they still have awesome momentum when you push the grips up all the way to the end of the tip). If you are looking for a pen to learn tricks from shadow to spreads, buy a Waterfall

    Hi, quick question ktrinh93. i started penspinning 8 years ago and stopped after like a year of spinning. every now and then i would just subconsciously pick up a pen and execute some combos with it because im bored. i can execute combos fluidly with ease and recently begun having an interest in penspinning again. when i come back to pen spinning i saw amazing tricks like hai tuas being invented and am trying to learn those. i consider myself as an advanced penspinner although my combos are kind of oldschool but should i use my bustercyl to learn the hai tua? because u said that it is recommended for advanced spinners to use the buster but u also mentioned that busters are better for EXECUTING a trick and not learning a trick so the information is somewhat conflicting for me.

    • @sulffojus1227
      @sulffojus1227 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andre Boulay I think its better to just use the buster after you have learned the trick because the reason why he doesnt want people to learn tricks with heavy pens is so that they can develop their style more because they used lighter pens first

    Question here. I spin with heavy marching drumsticks as a side effect of being in the school band. I am a high level spinner in terms of skill and dexterity. Since my fingers are used to that level of weight and handle that efficiently with no pain, could I start on a heavy weighted pen?

    • @the_dud3546
      @the_dud3546 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +P. Watts I think you are in a much better position to do this than most people and would likely pick up pen spinning easily, but with no guarantees whatsoever. The difference in size and weights might really throw you. They still recommend you learn on lighter pens so that you are not stuck only being able to use the heavy as hell ones for tricks. The beginner techniques are easier to get down with weight, but you don't learn it properly that way - its like cheating yourself. It makes everything else harder later on. That and the dexterity / strength issue are the main concerns. You've got those down pat. You can try a heavy pen, but I would spend some time on a light on first, just to not mess up your fundamentals. I'm super new to this, so my advice is based only on what I have read elsewhere.

    So I have a question.
    I got a comssa about 4 months ago. I learned infinity and thumb around with it. I have been spinning daily (combined, probably 1-1.5 hrs a day.) I just didn't like the feel of how light it was. So, not having watched this video, I got a buster about a month and a half ago. Now i can do all the build tricks (Charge, Sonic, Shadow, Thumbaround, and others like twisted sonic) What should I do now? Stick with the buster, go down to a waterfall or go down to a beginner mod?

    I just use an unsharpened pencil with a little bubble wrap superglued to both sides. Which gives the tips some weight. The pencil is super light and so are the tips, but the tips weight slightly heavier, so it makes it a lot easier for me to learn/execute tricks. It's perfect for a novice.

    I'm a beginner (well not a real starter, I can do charges, sonic, thumb around, double sonics, wiper, double infinity (kind of) and some basic combinations of them. I been doing charges, double sonics, thumb arounds and infinity when I'm bored in class for about 3 years) and I'm using a personal BICtory mod that weights around 12g. Would that be fine for me? Is it too heavy for a beginner? I heard the beginners might rely on the momentum that the heavy weight brings and lose the basic/fundamental control. I'm not very good with my pinky finger yet

  • @Beta95123
    @Beta95123 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @eggsta626 So that way as you improve into heavier mods it's easier to always go back and spin lighter mods, whereas its harder when the opposite is applied. When starting with a heavier mod it tends to destroy your style since you're still building up the foundation of your pen spinning and also possibly ruin your fingers.

    Alright, so I'm just curious. As an intermediate/high-intermediate balisong flipper, I have at least minimal dexterity and familiarity with using my fingers for tricks, and flip a Bali weighing in at 5.28 oz. I'm used to the weight and can flip that comfortably for longer periods at a time, but I'm still new to penspinning. I know you said it's not set in stone, but would you still say it's fine for me to use a higher weight pen, considering my background with balisongs?

    • @justinchen141
      @justinchen141 9 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      +xXMoonbaneXx The only reason it's bad for beginners to spin heavy pens is because they have a lot of momentum. The momentum will generally help you execute tricks and carry your movements. However, this makes beginners fingers sort of lazy and if they tried to spin a bictory, then they would see that the pen would move just barely. Pens with smaller barrels will make you exaggerate your finger motions more, thus training your control. Even if you have the hand muscles you would not have the control.

      +Square Pyramid I think heavier pens spin better for everyone, but if you get used to the weight, your fundamentals are not as good and you are much more limited in pen selection. If you learn on lighter pens you can always use a heavier one later which is required for certain tricks. Starting out heavy means you can only use those few heavy pens in the future and you might be at a disadvantage skill wise, from what I understand.

In addition, I know all fundamentals, but not the reverses and some of the more advanced moves to go along with it, also I do simple combos, so my question is, do you believe that I can move on to a waterfall mod?

      Like I mentioned in the video, there is no definition of an intermediate spinner. It's a really complex balance of a lot of different factors. Since everyone progresses at different rates and have different linkages/smoothness/etc, it's impossible to give a clean-cut definition of that. I would stick with the MX if I were you.

    Also if you could tell me what I should learn next. I deleted my old comment to update it so here is my trick database: sonic, thumbaround, fingerless thumbaround, thumbaround reverse, thumbaround harmonic, twisted sonic, warped sonic, sonic rise, reverse sonic, sonic fall, indexaround, charge, double charge, thumbflap charge, devil's sonic, fake double, shadow, and maybe a few others I'm forgetting, I can also freestyle and make simple combos.

    @drjohn123451 Look for my very first tutorials and follow the order of those more or less. Keep using the MX for the next few months regardless of how prepared you feel to move on. A lot of beginners tend to overestimate their abilities. Plus an MX will develop your style and control a lot better than a buster.

    Personally, I started with a simple McDonalds straw with some small pieces of colored tape on the ends to help me track the number of revolutions when I was first learning how to do a thumb around.

    And I was wondering if I could get your opinion as to how the new mod may differ from the pirat and/or commsa waterfall mod. I understand that you don't have the pen so you obviously don't know, but since you are a lot more experienced I figured you would have some general insight for this choice. Also, I know that the original and commsa waterfall mods have a slight issue with teflon tape - does the supertip body of the buster waterfall address this issue?

  • @br0sRchill
    @br0sRchill 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cuz one pen may contain parts from like 4 different pens. For example, it may use a grip from one pen, caps from another, body from another, and so on. Most of the time, when you get a grip off of a certain pen, the only good thing about that pen is the grip and you really cant use the rest of the pen. Same with the other parts of a mod. So really you have to pay for the pens used to make the mod, and a small extra fee for it to be premade.

    I started in April of 2012, and I've been spinning actively ever since. Would you consider me an intermediate? I know enough tricks to make my own 10-20 second comboes. Oh, and is a G3 MX good for Intermediates?

    Nice video KTrinh, i agree with everything u have said, only one question, u said we need about a year to touch the mods like buster or vics mod, lol, why??? I agree this is professional pen spinners mods, however 1 year is too much and some people may find it easier to learn new tricks with heavier pen, even u said in ur video that it was difficult for u to learn TA with light pen!

    To be honest im a begginer and im going to order a flying panda because ijust love it for some magical reason. But since you said to stay in your range i will order a metalic mod also and train with that and see how i like the flying panda. But if i dont like the flying panda i will wait till i get better. So, thank uKtrinh93

    I'm a beginner, and I prefer heavier mods. When I use a light mod (bictory, mx, etc.) it was actually harder for me to learn tricks. But when a friend of mine gave me his ZG Buster, I liked it a lot more, I learned the tricks that I couldn't learn on the bictory. So I guess it kind of depends on the spinner on which pen they like to spin with :)

      im not sure if he mentioned it in the vid, and im not bashing your pen choice, but generally, heavier pens ARE easier to learn tricks. but a lighter pen, though its harder to learn and execute tricks on, is better for your style of pen spinning becaues it helps your control, making you a better spinner in the long run.

    • @wistyanh

      I've started to spin lighter pens now. I stopped spinning heavier pens and moved to a bictory, but I like it a little heave, not too much, not too little (:

    I've been spinning for 3 months and apparently i must be good because i know hitua, triple ta, etc so i'm not sure what i should be spinning. I'm using a custom sc mod with signo tips and a super tip body. My friend (same level of spinner) keeps using his buster and double tipped waterfall comssa and says my mod is light. so what should i spin?
