    I think it may have had damage repaired at some stage, that's a pre-facelift bumper on what by age should be a facelift (or even second facelift) car.

    They do burn a bit of oil in the winter because the cold causes condensation inside the engine so oil becomes sludge. Wouldn't pass an MOT if it wasn't within tollerance. Changing the oil usually clears them up if they fail.

    The 1KR engine in these are pretty bulletproof but a little bit of smoke on startup isn’t unheard of. Have you let it warm up fully? You said you fitted a new exhaust. The smoke could just be a bit of oil burning off it. I’ve fitted a new exhaust once and it must have been dipped in oil to stop it rusting on the shelf or something cos it smoked like mad for a good while, but cleared after a good run.

Just thinking based on the loss could be worth someone driving the car for the day going through a list of defects based on x miles of driving? Not saying i have loads of free time but mechanically minded and available daytimes during the week. Experienced in at least 20 secondhand cars and defects/fixes. I’ve bought my daughter one of these which was accident damaged. I put a new bonnet and bumper on it and showed her it but she doesn’t want it because it’s basic inside (ungrateful I know) so I want to sell it but don’t know how much a cat n would be worth. Same colour, same spec (correct bumper though 🤣) slightly less miles than yours. Any advise would be welcomed.

    I'm in the look-out for a slightly older Aygo as a daily runabout. I know the Citroens and Peugeots are essentially the same car, but I prefer the rear lights on the Aygo and I'm a badge snob. Do you ever get any in around £1500? Cheers.

      @ChopsGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not very often to be honest as with delivery and fees averaging £400 its hard to buy one, prep and warranty at £1500. Id look for one on Facebook Market place or Gumtree make sure you get it warm and drive it hard to check for ring wear it will smoke. About the only thing that goes wrong other than leaks, check the wheel well in boot for water. If its leaking you could chase it forever and a day to find out where

  • @audimanuk
    @audimanuk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How did it pass the Mot blowing smoke like the Papal chimney ? Did you do a compression test, coulda been the valve stem seals ? I've known these cars do upwards of 250k and still not smoke, you should have sold it as is not thru auction, prvt buyer would have snapped it up especially a keeno with the spanners some guys just love to mess, its an ego thing with them " Yeah, I'm the man I'll fix this in a weekend", you also could have swapped the engine out, a solid day would have gotten it done, you were on a hiding for nothing pushing it back thru the auction, a popular small car looking mint with a full ticket and gelled tyres ? This would have raised suspicion in anyone's mind like " Why TF is this here ?" might as well have put a big sign in the window .... [ NEEDS MAJOR ENGINE WORK ]
    You need to get a grip, get tough and stop playing at being a trader, you'll get no favours from BCA, Manheim or CoPart, they'll tuck you up in a instant, and so will your customers with your Mr Nice guy attitude, heres my 7 golden rules .....
    1. Never assume anything about a cars mechanical condition or history.
    2. Don't believe what a seller tells you about the car or why they're selling it its all bullcr*p and they're all lying barstewards ( make your own judgement ).
    3. NEVER, and i mean NEVER buy a car in the dark, especially the dark and when its raining ( regardless of how many lumens your torch puts out )
    4. If you have to buy unseen then assume its a dog that needs lots of work and price accordingly.
    5. First thing ALWAYS before you start polishing is make sure the engine is sound, you should have let the engine get hot and caned it round the yard.
    6. If the car you're looking at has fresh spark plugs, oil and filters and outside the specified manufacturer schedule then smell a rat.
    7. Rough people sell rough cars !

    I have watched a few of your videos now and, you always seem to be on the losing end of the deals. I understand that you have to try and keep your outlays to a minimum when you purchase your stock to resell on to the public but, take the C1 in this video, you put the vehicle through the MOT and then you spent more monies to bring the car up to a higher standard only to find after a longer drive that the vehicle is blowing blue smoke. Please do not take what I am writing as a criticism of you as it is not. I would rather buy a car from a honest hard working person like your self than other so called salesmen trying to make more than a honest living by inflating prices and telling half truths about the vehicles that they are trying to sell.
    I guess what I am trying to say is that if you had taken the car for a longer drive and got the vehicle up to working temperature to see if the vehicle leaked coolant, oils under pressure and carried out a few manoeuvres to check for knocks and such also the occasional hard braking and a quick inspection underneath the vehicle on the ramps, you would have probably arrived at the same conclusion that faces you now, but without loosing all the time and monies that you have put into this C1.
    I understand time is money and so forth but, you would have saved I would presume a great deal of not just time but also money by giving your cars a longer run. I do have a question for you though if that is ok, wouldn't the car have failed it's MOT or at the least got a mention on the pass certification?
    I am going to subscribe and like, You are a honest man and you heart is in the right place unlike a lot of the more un-scrupulous people in the vast jungle of car sellers around today!
    I would like to see some more positive video's where you make an honest crust with out so much outlay in time and money, a win-win video! Take care and I wish you all the best for the future.
