High Peak started to get a bit repetitive and glossy so I gave up on it. This channel reminds me far more of the motor trade I remember 20 years ago and is all the better for it.
@@Xenon777_ The trouble I found with Matt is the longer you watch him, the more stuck up and rude he seems, esp about people not exactly like him. Got boring in the end!
I prefer the rough and ready chops garage. Your honesty, professionalism and cost saving tips in your daily work makes the videos so much more interesting. Keep it going James
Hi James, I've been subscribed to you for well over a year now. Initially I was drawn to your channel because of your 'no frills' approach to the motortrade world. I to compared my channel to the big boys, hubnuts, Jay em Cars, etc. But l realised that wasn't the direction my channel was going to go in. The main reason your channel is great is because of how genuine you are and a decent hardworking trader to boot. I'm looking forward to future endeavours.
That's a cracking offer for the Cambelt change. I'd definitely take that deal. My 2016 GTD was 5years OR 130K as per VW for belt change. I def wouldnt be waiting for it on miles.
James, you really don’t need fancy graphics and intros mate. What you do is raw and real, which is what we are all looking for. It’s something completely unique. Keep doin what your doin 👌🏻✊🏻❤️
Like the daily blog updates - don’t waste time on editing and glossing up. You also gave me the confidence to refurbish the alloys on an Audi A3 my son just bought privately - so many thanks.
Great video James.... £160 for cambelt and water pump alone is crazy cheap! I was told recently that VAG belts are 133k miles and no longer on time... It would be a very brave person that takes one beyond 10 years!
Definitely prefer the shorter simpler video format, especially when you share some of the tips that you've picked up over the years. Overlaying the replacement stickers being a good example. Keep enjoying what you're doing and people will continue to enjoy watching.
I have also been with you since the early days. Keep it real James. Don't go fancy. I like the way you run your business, I run my service and repair business the same way, excellence, honesty and customer service.
Old chops is a great idea, I’ve followed you from the start James. like you say you do everything on your own and that makes better context than the others doing sod all apart from walking about just being filmed by someone else!Keep up the good work👍🏻
My god a cam belt and a service for £160 is insane people should be biting your hands off. I'm 44 disabled after an dodgy NHS operation always used to work on my own car but can't now I sent my car in for an MOT last week passed asked for just an oil change and they wanted £210!!! And this isn't a main dealer they seriously wanted to charge me and hours rate to do an oil change
Best thing about your videos is the blog style, James - that's why I started watching them. I started watching Shifting Metal and High Peak Autos after watching you but I think I like the almost live day to day updates. Keep up the great work!

That's a brilliant deal absolutely no charge for Labour or my time driving. I'll even throw in the Battery for Free.😊😂😂😊😊 I would love a day out in Devon/Cornwall 😊😊.
James, the mk7 golf (petrol) has convenient cam belt inspection cover that just clips off in a jiffy! The replacement interval is longer than previous cars because it only drives camshafts, NOT water pump!!! The water pump is on other side of engine driven from its own separate little belt!
James you do whats best for you but you dont need to compete with the likes of shifting metal etc as you are different and we like you for that,i stsrted watching you at the alfa garage when you was doing alot mire yourself etc and enjoyed that but will watch and support you whatever you do🙂👍
Only checked last week on the VW website, as I thought my Golf cabrio was due. However it confirmed the belt life is now 140k and no age limit. Hope this helps. 👍
The grease used for the areas you mentioned in this video is called shin etsu. Its a honda grease...it lasts for ages and it's one of the most useful trhings you will ever buy as a trader. It fixes a multitude of issues on old cars.
Been watching your videos since your early days James there was nothing wrong with how you did them, need to make time for yourself and your family too.
Always be your own self never be a follower do what's right for you and your business will keep watching the channel which ever way you choose great content
You do you James. I’ve always liked your one camera, one man band way of working. There’s no point in being a “me too” - you’ve carved yourself a good niche with what you do. There’s room for all different styles of content.

Old school chops is great. My interest is watching what you do day to day, seeing what you bug, challenges you face etc so I totalky support that format. No need to spend ages editing or doing a 45 minute video on one car. Just keep whacking out videos that cover a bit of everything as you do them. Easier for you, and we love them
Pretty sure the VW recommended on them is 5 years or 130k Miles whichever comes first….. that’s why I chose against one of this age VW Golf and decided to go for a Focus and BMW instead
As a buyer the thought of buying something with vague CAM belt history is enough to put me off, especially with the ludicrous idea of smashing valves if the rubber band snaps … ! Even the same with German cars that can have a chain snap because they used plastic tensioner linings (cheaper) but replacement tension guides have nylon (dearer) nutty engine designs..! Hey don’t be shy about asking Brooke how to go on with wheel refurbishment, sure she will give you a tip or two…😊
Has that light blue Nissan Note got 360 cameras, that's a bit overkill for such a small car 🤣 Love the old style chops videos, you don't need all the glitter and sparkle when you give great tips and advice 👍
Some of my favourite channels, eg Watch Wes Work and NNKH, only put out videos when there's something interesting to show, and some of the most popular ones are noticeably putting out videos less frequently. Quite like the way Car UK and 6D Diesels work.
James stick to a basic chops because that’s you at your best , what you do is the day by day vlog and to be honest it works and I for one support you 🎉❤
Do what makes you comfortable James - YT probably makes a tiny income - your income comes from Chops. Makes sure the raffle cars continues though as that benefits so many deserving causes
I think the problem with demanding customers has been created by the price of secondhand vehicles going through the roof in the last few years. Near end of life cars previously sold for an affordable price with the expectation of faults and defects are now routinely £1000s more. This naturally will make consumers feel taken advantage of and therefore entitled to expect more than previously for the money they are parting with. Of course it is due to market forces but so is every other increasing financial demand being forced on car buyers. Nobody is winning.
@@oceandrive7283definitely, everyone is scrabbling around for a few extra quid. I appreciate the merits of the consumer rights provided by dealers but, especially for newly passed youngsters, driving has become entirely unaffordable. I like the fact you are going back to how you used to do your videos. It was what got me watching in the first place and it’s a good few years now You’ve got to 50k plus on subs doing it that way so why change it just to be like others.

Take a few bolts out of belt cover and have a look, if it's OK and no tentioner noises then it'll last for years, but yes it's a big problem, I had an alfa the other week, belt was done (invoice) 1000 miles previously, but 3 years ago, low mileage spider, well there all moaning saying belt will go, knock off 100s,belt was as new.

Advice please , daughter wants to upgrade from her 1.2 Punto. Needs to be 2016 onwards, a bit more trendy, faster than the Punto not crazy insurance - she’s 21 . Oh and needs to be reliable, not diesel either. Budget £7.5K
I had an audi A1 in and it'd flatten its key battery in a few days, replaced it half a dozen times, think there's some issue on vw, audi stuff that can drain the battery, never really solved it, passed the car onto my son and he kept just using the door lock, but that's awkward as alarm will go off, had a galaxy returned because of that, so it is a problem, tbh under normal use a key battery will last a few years, but yes having a moan after a year is pathetic, there's a key/battery place in every town or even a market, but if you don't know, you don't know.
Get your daughter to teach you how to sort wheels out Chops 🙂 My 57plate Honda needed a new keyfob battery and Honda refused to replace it the other week
