    Kevin calls that cello-boxing. That wall of voice as you called it, I see it as a vocal tsunami washing over the listeners.

    I felt like I could feel Kirsten's angst in this song and Avi - omg I could feel his sadness.

    The "whoosh wind " sound was actually Kevin, not Avi. Kevin beatboxes while playing the cello which he calls "celloboxing" and invented it which ironically is how Scott and Ben Brams (the invisible 6th member of PTX) discovered him through one of Kevin's celloboxing videos on TH-cam . The group will actually agree with you that Kevin is the most talented. Love this cover by them. Thanks for reacting. 😊

    It is true the group’s demeanor for this song is exceptionally serious but Pentatonix always, always, always does their very best to honor the spirit of the music they are singing and this is an exceptionally sad song so if they made you feel sad then kudos to them for imparting the heartbreaking tragedy of lost love. I have always called this song devastatingly beautiful and will continue to do so.

    Poor Kirsten never gets enough kudos for what she brings. Everyone always fawns over Avi because he's so deep and rich as a base, Kevin because he sounds like he swallowed a drum machine and is freakishly talented, Mitch because he sounds like a girl and can sing really high and is a novelty to many people. Scott is also underappreciated for his soulful, rich lead vocals.

    Yes PTX all day! They drop a new original ep on Friday! Avi is my favorite too! I agree though about Kevin he is super talented, but also the hardest worker. The pop spring concert is a good one for some old originals. The singoff performances are great to see their beginings.

    What is this "enough of Pentatonix" you speak of? Those words don't compute or make sense to me or most (all) Pentaholics! There so SO many you have yet to experience! You should check out their official video for Aha (cover of song by Imogen Heap) and then their live performance from a fan cam in Singapore at the Star Vista. Most of of Pentaholics would love to go back in time and have been at that concert. They were all on FIRE but in AHA Mitch is just totally feeling his performance.

    • @wendischambach6181
      @wendischambach6181 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jennyfield266 LOL. They all do it to some degree. Actually, if you look close, they cut to Scott's face at times but it's when he moves a little bit which you can see in his shoulders coming up and his elbows coming in a little, especially for a few of the crescendo moments. I think it would be difficult to sing with no movement (obviously this isn't when they recorded the song), to be able to increase volume or go up in pitch especially. Additionally, it's interesting how they all have a different pose: Scott's hands on the 2 chairbacks in front of him, Avi's hands folded together, Kirsten's hands on her knees, Kevin playing the cello, and Mitch's "relaxed" pose. Very well composed.

    • @wendischambach6181
      @wendischambach6181 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's interesting. I thought it was because the song is so sad and it definitely fit the mood of the lyrics. Their lack of motion actually adds to the angst and anguish of a dying relationship, the desperate cry to save or revive it that is falling on deaf ears.

    • @jennyfield266

    Kevin has called this "cello-boxing". Before PTX, Kevin released a TH-cam video of him "cello-boxing" while he was in China on a college fellowship. It was this video that Scott saw when searching for a beat-boxer to join him, Mitch and Kirsten for the "Sing Off". BTW, Kevin also speaks fluent Mandarin.

    You should check out their cover of Kiiara's Gold. It's a deceptively simple arrangement, because they make it look so easy, but it's riddled with tons of amazing details. Shot and recorded in a single take as a bit of an ode to their early couch days, it's probably the best display of how incredibly talented they are not only with their vocals, but also their arrangements. It's my favourite cover of them, along with Hallelujah (which is also out of this world and still makes me tear up whenever I listen to it).

    First, your boyfriend ought to be jealous of Avi, LOL! I lost my wife of 30 years to emphysema, but while she lived, she was obsessed with Conway Twitty. She swore that when he sang, Hello Darling, that he was singing to her. She went to one of his concerts and took 10 pictures of him, and they were all from the waist down. when I asked about it, she said that was as high as her camera would go. Ha ha ha! I'm telling you all this because she used to look at and react to him the same way you look at and react to Avi! You said is that all Kevin gets. Is beatboxing and playing the cello not enough, just kidding. I really like your reactions. I still see the shock with every video you see, and I think that is awesome:)

    I was a singer and drummer. I was never on their level. I would work both hands and both feet and have to sing. You have to put your mind into a different place to make it all work right. The only way I can explain it is you have to separate your mind into different parts to work everything separately and then put another part of your mind in charge to make it all come together.
    I think Kevin is probably superhuman compared to the rest of us mere mortals.

    Great reaction. You should do “Dancing on my own”. It was done after Avi left, before Matt came. So it’s just the 4 of them, with Kevin playing Avi’s missing bass notes on his cello. It’s sad but so beautiful.
    This video was meant to be reminiscent of a photograph, and they tried to keep movement to a minimum. It about killed Scott and Mitch who sing with a lot of hand movements. You can see them hanging on to chairs/other stuff to keep from moving. 😁 I always think Scott looks too pale /vampire-ish in this video. I laughed when you said it was almost creepy.
    Question for Q&A: What do you do in you “real” job? What made you want to start a music reaction channel?

    What you described, the wall of voice is well known among PTX fans as "The wall of Sound". We love it! Love your videos. Also they still do very simple, sitting on the couch music videos. Production quality has obviously gone up as they have more money to put into the videos. The couch goes back to their very early days when they posted videos from Avi and Kevin's apartment and just gathered together on the couch and sang a cover.

    For me, my favorite is Mitch. And although I agree that Kevin is possibly the most talented, because he can play multiple instruments both with his voice and with his hand and can sing too. But I think the best singer is Mitch. In fact I believe if I remember correctly in past interviews the other band members say the same, that Mitch is the best singer and if they get lost in the song and are in the wrong octave or tune all they have to do is listen to Mitch. because he is almost always always perfectly correct. High praise coming from his own group. I also think out of all of them he has to mute his voice more than other members when he's not the lead, because he is got the most powerful of all of them. Which is why even if he is muting it you can still hear his voice. I love me my Mitch!!

    Hey Megan, I’ve enjoyed watching your reactions. Your enthusiasm is a lot of fun to tune into. Being big of a Pentatonix fan as you are, it’s obvious that you appreciate their talent and their take on a lot of different songs. It’s nice to know that an a-cappella group can still be main stream. It’s othst note that I want to run another group by you that I think you would enjoy quite a bit. If you enjoy a-cappella then you’ll most certainly enjoy a group named “Straight No Chaser”. They are an a-cappella group that was formed at Indiana University in the 90s. Their story is quite interesting. Basically it’s 10 college buddies who got back together after many years because somebody from a record label saw a video of theirs on TH-cam. Having moved on with their lives they got back together after many years and started touring the country and putting out albums. I have been fortunate enough to have seen them live three different times and they are OUTSTANDING in person. I would highly recommend going if you ever get a chance and they come to your area, and of course Covid allows us to have concerts again. They are known quite a bit for their Christmas music but they do a lot of other things as well that are very good. I will tell you that there are a lot of concert footage of them on TH-cam and most of it doesn’t even come close to doing them justice, usually taken with a cell phone. I left you a link to give you an idea of what they are like. m.th-cam.com/video/6OEQXGk0k0w/w-d-xo.html They do a lot of complex original pieces, and medleys as well . They are a blast in concert, very funny too. Thanks for all of the reviews and reactions, always fun to see what you have going on. By the way, I think it’s time for you to revisit Angelina Jordan again, definitely check out her version of Aretha Franklin ‘s, “Natural Woman”. I think you will be blown away. Peace out.

    Questions: What part of the country do you live in and is it cold there? (It's freezing and snowy in Ohio.). What is the best dish that you cook? And tell us your most embarrassing moment. lol. Oh, and YES. Please keep the Pentatonix reviews coming!! Thanks. :-)

    Just too good, I really wish I could take up a petition to bring Avi back but that's the way it goes sometimes. Great reaction Megan.

    Did you know that Pentatonix sing in Japanese too with one of the most famous female vocal groups in Japan? You should check them out "Little Glee Monster feat. Pentatonix - Dear My Friend"
    There are two versions of it:
    1) Official video on Little Glee Monster channel
    2) Live recording version on THE FIRST TAKE channel (minus 1 person due to health condition)
    (don't forget to turn on the subtitles)👌

    This is supposed to be like an old fashioned portrait. Poor Scott is really clinging to those chairs so he's not using his hands.

    Liar, you are so obsessed with Avi 😉 The drums and bass are so important to any band. They are AMAZING and better than actual instruments. In my opinion. Ok…off to the next one. 👋🏼🤗💋

    Swap PTX, Angelina, any new talent you find interesting. Love this anyway.
    Their arrangements are SO intricate, detailed, and they have such a huge repertoire, how do they remember their parts? Amazing!

    I don't think that was Avi making that whooshing sound in the beginning. I'm pretty sure Avi was still holding his bass note as Kevin made the whoosh leading into his "knocking" beatboxing sound.
