The old Top of the Pops LP's did the same.

BBC were severely limited to the amount of pop music they could play from records during the course of one day. Five hours maximum of music off records was permitted in the 1960s, with an increase made in 1967 when Radio 1 launched to around 6.5 hours per day. This meant the BBC relied on orchestras and bands to fill in the void.

Thx! These are gold dust for those of us looking for lost live music. eg Billy Fury appeared on a dozen POTP which to my knowledge are all lost. Should you ever find any it would make a lot of people happy.

    Hi,
does anyone know if a reel-to-reel tape recording survived of the Spotnicks performance on the BBC programme parade of the pops from August 29th 1962, or is this the only known reel-to-reel tape recording of the BBC programme parade of the pops?.
Any help is more than welcome!.

Thank heavens for the Offshore Stations. I am afraid that for me the BBC has never understood pop music.

The Offshore stations spoilt the party, although i must say that i rather enjoyed the programme, im not sure whether it was good or bad, Luxy was on at seven and to hear Barry Aldis playing twenty discs in a row, was unheard of

Did this have a live audience? Was Parade of the Pops broadcast every weekday? Anyone know?

It was recorded with a live audience usually at the Playhouse Theatre. It ran as a weekly show, usually on a Wednesday lunchtime from 1960 to 1968
